When the price lowered thats when HD-DVD was finished. For nearly the same price of a standalone Blu-Ray Player, they could have one + a game console.
Exact same thing happened with the PS2 and DVD. Just took longer because of the price.
The 360 HD-DVD drive was never going to work. People want stuff straight out of the box, not pricey add-ons.

@DutchHPfan1992 unless your watching on a tv over like 42 inches your eyes will have a hard time telling the difference between a dvd on a good up scaling player and a blu ray disc but blu ray has a much higher pixel count and vastly superior sound quality plus they're getting to where they're about the same price as dvds and most blu ray players are also up scaling dvd players so you dont need another player for your existing dvds. hope i helped good luck man
@JustMexicanXD no, mw2 is 520p on the ps3 and 600p on the 360. all multiplats usually either have weaker colors, lower resolutions, lower framerates and general reduced quality on the ps3 than they do on the 360.
i dont know why hd dvds stoped they can hold up to 30 gb and the normal blu rays can hold up to 25 gb but the dl blurays can hold up to 50 gb!!!who needs 50 to store a hd movie its really much more and expensive though an hd game is about 10-20 gb a hd movie how much gb it is15 gb the maximum...blu ray is the future but nowadays is a waste of space and money!!!

@exposed97 because with itunes, unless you have an apple tv connected to a hts, you will only get 128~ or 160~(HD) mbps of pure aac audio, and even if you do have it connected you only get lossy compressed DD audio, not to mention the fact that itunes movies are not always qc checked before release and are stuck to only 1.5~mbps or 4.5~mbps(HD) video which only tops at 720p. Don't get me wrong. I love itunes movies but theyre just not up to par with the physical media...

As the format war ended I got an LG BH200 SuperBlu player CHEAP. And won bigger than I could've had I chose sides. It's a bad-ass Blu-Ray player, bad-ass DVD up-converting player, and I was able to build a huge 1080p movie library on closeout HDDVDs for less than the cost of a PS3!

aside from Disney, Warner, Lionsgate, Sony and 20th Century Fox, it also has HBO Video, New Line Home Entertainment, Paramount/Dreamworks Home Entertainment, Image Entertainment and Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

They both display videos in high defition, that's what the HD stands for.
But yeah, they're pretty much the same, except for 2 things, Blu-Ray discs are more difficult to scratch and there can be a lot more content on a Blu-Ray disc than there can be on an HD DVD/DVD

Why did Blu-ray win over DVD? HD DVD copy protection was hacked when hackers removed the ROM drive from the Toshiba player and put it into a PC and videos flooded the internet showing the hack. Blu Ray eventually got hacked by stripping the ROM out of a Blu-ray player. Too bad for all the major hollywood labels, it was them who pushed the format.
@TheMovieMassacre They had an add-on drive, but a standard DVD drive in the 360 itself. But if there had been an HD-DVD drive in every 360 the "format war" might have lasted a little longer at least. The fact that all HD-DVDs were region free probably meant it would have never won out.

There was no real reason either one of the two was going to fail because both used the same codecs hence the same quality of video and audio.. certainly in the early days, availability was equal. Biggest difference was probably that bluray sounds better than hddvd..

If your monitor goes beyond 1920x1080 then yes. However, who really needs to go beyond 1920x1080? Those resolutions alone are fantastic. Unless there is a great leap in technology that creates a need for anything higher than that then there is no need. Blu-ray created the need for higher resolution monitors and TV's. Maybe when 3D is perfected it may create a need for something more but as it stands 1920x1080 will be here for many, many years.
Xbox 360 plays DVD's,,,you have to get the HD DVD Player for Xbox 360 to play HD DVD disc...PS3 plays Blue Ray disc..not to sure if it plays Regular DVD's..

@TLJthethird I do, but then again, I've only got two Blu-ray movies (Ghostbusters and Young Guns)... so I need to expand my collection. I've stopped getting DVDs since I got my PS3 Slim. :)

They both display videos in high defition, that's what the HD stands for.
But yeah, they're pretty much the same, except for 2 things, Blu-Ray discs are more difficult to scratch and there can be a lot more content on a Blu-Ray disc than there can be on an HD DVD/DVD
Keep in mind i'm not PS3 fanboy.

Why did Blu-ray win over DVD? HD DVD copy protection was hacked when hackers removed the ROM drive from the Toshiba player and put it into a PC and videos flooded the internet showing the hack. Blu Ray eventually got hacked by stripping the ROM out of a Blu-ray player. Too bad for all the major hollywood labels, it was them who pushed the format.

@TheMovieMassacre They had an add-on drive, but a standard DVD drive in the 360 itself. But if there had been an HD-DVD drive in every 360 the "format war" might have lasted a little longer at least. The fact that all HD-DVDs were region free probably meant it would have never won out.

id say buy a used PS3 for the living room, i brought 1 for £99(british pounds) so i could watch bluray and play the odd game on it.
the picture quality is miles better than the other players within the same price range

There was no real reason either one of the two was going to fail because both used the same codecs hence the same quality of video and audio.. certainly in the early days, availability was equal. Biggest difference was probably that bluray sounds better than hddvd..

gaming with 360 is the best.

Toshiba has stopped supporting HD DVD and now makes Blu-Rays. Others are soon to follow.
Also I don't have a PS3 but a Xbox 360 and I admit, Blu-Ray is A LOT better then HD DVD.

If your monitor goes beyond 1920x1080 then yes. However, who really needs to go beyond 1920x1080? Those resolutions alone are fantastic. Unless there is a great leap in technology that creates a need for anything higher than that then there is no need. Blu-ray created the need for higher resolution monitors and TV's. Maybe when 3D is perfected it may create a need for something more but as it stands 1920x1080 will be here for many, many years.

PS3 sealed the deal really.

Xbox 360 plays DVD's,,,you have to get the HD DVD Player for Xbox 360 to play HD DVD disc...PS3 plays Blue Ray disc..not to sure if it plays Regular DVD's..

dude really...... have u looked at Uncharted 2, EVEN uncharted 1 the graphics are the greatest graphics i have sen since resident evil 4s release. I had an Xbox 360 when it got out and the graphics were good. Until i heard of the PS3 bundle of Uncharted and 2 controllers, so now i have a great system and 4 great game such as cod4, metal gear solid 4 and both uncharteds so u try comparing uncharted 2 to ANY Xbox game and trust ME lil bro, you'll be proven wrong
