The whole problem is that marriage is a religious practice not a secular one. It is a covenant between a man, a woman, and God, not just a commitment between two persons who love each other. Homosexuals cannot truly be married because God will not recognize their union; because by practicing homosexuality they are in direct violation of his law. What should happen is for church and state to truly separate. The states should not be involved in marriage.
The constitution is stronger than any church, wont be used to hate for any price. our founding fathers knew all to well to shield it against the church evil ways (seperation of church & state)
Every Mormon I have ever met in my life has been a genuinely kind, intelligent and thoughtful person, so it confuses me that they let a religious organization have this much power over them. I guess Steven Weinberg said it best -- " With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil -- that takes religion."
Has anyone ever hear of separation of church and state? That EVERY MAN IS CREATED EQAUL? It's in the constitution. If christ=love, how living is it to take away the rights of your fellow man? STR8 AGAINST H8
Nobody expects organized religion to start accepting gay marriage. However, separating church and state is crucial to live in democracy. This means that the contract of marriage should be accessible to gay people, and if a church doesn't want to recognize it, well fine.
After paying off the California government I'm sure that gigantic money-filled hole beneath the Tabernacle in Salt Lake has shrunk a bit. I guess money does speak louder than words. By money I mean the flesh-and-blood, just-like-you-and-me Prophets of the Latter Day Saints. I used to call the LDS the 'Mormon community' by impulse when I was dating that Mormon boy from Provo. Andrew was his name, great person, smokin' body. Too bad his balls inverted into himself and he stayed in the closet...
WOW, im mormon, and this EXTREMELY warpped... This is not at all how the church runs... There are mormons who except gay marriage and there are some that dont, its not like EVRY anti-gay marriage person is Mormon...
@jld1532 could you please cite these papers, what they say and explain the motivation the LDS church would have in doing so? otherwise your argument is invalid...
If you think this movie portrays an accurate depiction on what latter-day-saints believe then you could be persuaded to think anything. It's kinda of like saying Al gore is an expert in earth warming science. Just because it is in a movie doesn't make it true.
i was bawling when i saw this. i have many mormon friends, and it made me sick that they are brainwashed to think this hatred is right. and in three years, when i can vote, the first thing i'm doing is fighting to regain the rights that the mormon church stole away.
I saw this film last night. It amazes me that those who think they know God but have no clue how to love or show any kind of compassion. God is love, not hate.
Just wanna throw out there that if you believe homosexuals don't deserve rights because of some ridiculous book, then you must also acknowledge that same book says that if you wear blended cloth you are a sinner and are going to hell. So if you ever wear underpants with an elastic waist line you are fucked for eternity. (Leviticus)
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New American Standard Bible)
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
GOD doesn't hate the sinner, but he counts the sin of homosexuality as an abomination! Love the sinner, hate the sin... I'm no Morman, that is a cult

Saw this documentary once; will never do so again, ever. The coldness, hatred and cruelty of certain religious people, and the inanity of the 'flock' makes me embarrassed that I'm part of the same species, in the effing 21st century, and makes me want to go back in time and force von Linne to change our name.
From a personal perspective, i believe in the Biblical view of marriage, a man and a woman. However, according to our Constitution, any powers not delegated to the federal government is automatically given to the states. No power exists in the Constitution for the federal government to regulate the institution of marriage, so therefore its up to individual states. As long as the people vote and have a say, i dont care which way it goes.
This movie is proof positive that Churchs which get involved in trying to change politics should lose their tax exempt status. I have no problem with individuals or businesses giving to cause they believe in, but they have to pay taxes.
@benabaxter It's not about that, it's about a systematic effort by the head of the mormon church to make a political change using the money of their worshippers. They effectively meddled in politics, quite successfully too, and for that they should get their tax exempt status removed.
@benabaxter Maybe I can explain it. First of all, the church receives tax exemptions and as a condition for that must remain apolitical. The Mormon church is far from apolitical. Second of all, it threatened to kick out members for not contributing. That's manipulative, abusive, and --quite frankly--sickening. Those are two of the major points. You missed it somehow.
@PrepeiNaSasPw Morality is inseparable from most politics, and the attempt to divorce the two is causing the great crisis in truth we see today. This is because moral issues in politics were moral first, and then became politicized.
@benabaxter Really? Then why did the LDS Church do everything it could to hide from the the public that they were behind this? If it makes so much sense for churches to be involved in politics, then be honest about it. Also, you are missing the point -- tax exempt status is given to churches and it is contingent on their not engaging in politics.
@benabaxter Oh yeah, and you are right, I suppose about the two being so mixed but it goes both ways -- Mormons capitulated on the polygamy issue only AFTER political pressure was asserted. In that case, politics influenced "morality."
@PrepeiNaSasPw Mormons devout enough to tithe by and large support the Church's actions. If they did not believe what their church believes, they wouldn't be Mormon except for social pressures. Having been to the inside of a church in my life, and having actually met believers, I can tell you the proportion of church attendees who don't believe church teaching and yet who still attend regularly is very small indeed.
where the hell did you hear of the church threatening to kick out members for not donating any money to the proposition. Im a member of the church residing in california who hasnt devoted (nor my family) one penny to the prop 8 movement and nobody threatened to take away my membership. But what do i know? you're just going to call me a bigot
@thomasadamnelson Watch the film. Mormons in the film tell about this. It's good that it didn't happen to you, but it did happen to others. Also, why would I call you a bigot? Nothing you wrote even faintly resembled bigotry -- though, I would advise against such an aggressive tone (i.e., "where the hell"). It's unnecessary.
this is a dumb film. it is full of inaccuracies and falsehoods. Yes the church did give money to support prop 8, but it did not propose it. that was the legislature of the state of california.
@kac182003 Prop 8 was not proposed by the legislature. It was proposed by Protect Marriage and the film makes a compelling case that this group was created behind the scenes by Mormons. Maybe you should watch it before saying it is "full of inaccuracies." Also, please check your *own* facts before you post about "inaccuracies" and "falsehoods."
@kac182003 You do need to see it in order to credibly state that it is "full" of inaccuracies and falsehoods. How do you know it doesn't have *some* accurate statements if you haven't seen it? Isn't it a bit like someone judging the Mormon religion as crazy because you believe that Joseph Smith got some magical disappearing tablets that came from God, who is really just human living on his own planet, and that one day all Mormons will be gods living on their own planets? Without knowing more?
@PrepeiNaSasPw Plus, prop 8 became a state law and for something to become law it is required to go through the legislature then, then voted upon by the people then be signed by the governor. this is what happened with prop 8. you should study your US government more.
@kac182003 Not all laws in California go through the legislature. Ballot propositions, like Proposition 8, are (usually) initiated by citizen groups and put on the ballot for California voters to vote on -- in that case, the legislature does *not* vote on it. Also, I should point out that this is a question California government, not U.S. government, which is separate. Do you even bother to google the accuracy of your views before posting? It could save you some embarrassment.
@chrstilen5 I cried after reading your poorly written comment, which is full of misspellings. Friendly advice: Spend less time on YouTube writing comments about movies you didn't see and more time with your English book. And maybe hire a tutor. Like I said, just some friendly advice. Take it or leave it.
@PrepeiNaSasPw I think crying ower a comment is worse then misspelings... Come on dude, why do you care about the speling anyway? ps, thanks for the advice.
@PrepeiNaSasPw There is a certain segment of the population that thinks being anal retentive is some kind of virtue that validates your credibility. That is a fallacy. GET OVER IT!!!
Yeah we gettin moneh- Obama type moneh! Ain't nothin you could do about it so step away from meh! Haha you know what they say- Mo money mo problems! LDS Rappin' hahaha laughin all the way to the bank!
I believe its not about the gender , It's about the love. if you love a person so much that you want to take their hand in marrige it's beautiful to me. Plus the lords made us equal...If he didnt want homosexuals of this earth then why the hell did he make those people homosexuals!!!!!???
I love how they blame only the LDS church. Not considering they are 2% of the Californian population. 52% voted yes on 8 so they obviously weren't all Mormons. Hahaha
The problem the homosexual marriage isn't the right to live together is the issue to be homosexual is to be normal way of the sexuality. In fact u child who born normal heterosexual will be educated under homosexual way. Well this fact just go to increase the homophobia. Homosexual must be stand up to be no discriminate and live normal life but if they want respect they must be respect the heterosexuals and other social groups. Finally is not about to make the world look like u guys
My question is how is condeming the entire mormon religion, and spending millions doing it by making a movie and forming protests, any different then them condemning the act of homosexuality as a sin and an attack of the original constitutional family? Is it just not another group of people standing up for what they believe to be true? And how can people condemn them singally when there entire numbers equal 2% of the population and 52% of californians voted for the 8?
@GREALER The LDS dont belive in being gay as somting good, but we dont go agenst the people being gay. If any Mormon go agenst a gay guy, then he's just a dummb member.
@GREALER I just wanted you to know that the LDS dont hunt down gay people. ^_^ You said the LDS have good moral standard. Just so you know they dont hunt them down like the movie make it lock like. Just in case you belived this movie.
@v3rbal Suppose being gay is an "abomination" in the eyes of the Lord. Would you take away their right to marry simply for your religious beliefs? Should we take away the right to marry because someone is Catholic? Black? Muslim? Where do we stop taking away rights?
Wow this preview even made me tear up. I don't even live in California but somedays I think about Prop 8 and I cry. Somedays I think about Prop 8 and I get angry. Nobody in this world as the right to take away the rights from somebody else. Marriage equality is about love. Stop the hate.
How come this is just about the mormons though, other churches completely disagree with it too. Don't just single someone out because you feel like it, and defiantly don't make a movie based on lies. You can't take what someone says and turn it into something completely different. This movie is a lie.
@sydleberry9 it is just emphasizing the lengths the mormon community goes to, to create a world they feel is "correct". everybody knows they aren't the only religion against it, they are just a giant driving force behind anti-gay views in california (even though they are a minority in the state)
1. The No on 8 campaign raised more money than the Yes on 8 campaign. Unofficial estimates put No on 8 at $38 million and Yes on 8 at $32 million, making it the most expensive non-presidential election in the country.
You might want to look at some of those.
2. Mormon voters were less than 5% of the yes vote. If one estimates that 250,000 LDS are registered voters, then LDS voters made up 4.6% of the Yes vote and 2.4% of the total Proposition 8 vote.
If you believe in FREEDOM, and EQUAL rights, then there is no valid reason why a gay couple can't request a marriage license from the state. If you are gay, and are against gay marriage, then don't get married it's as simple as that. Don't tell other people what they can and cannot do, and what YOU think is RIGHT or WRONG, that's just ridiculous. What's right for one may not be right for another and that's what FREEDOM is about!
I don't think that our church needed to go as far as they did to stop prop 8, but I also think that how this commercial portrays the mormon people is completely wrong. they want to act like we are some evil cult and were not.
@cocobabyballerina Then why did they admit to dumping $180000 into Proposition 8. They are completely wrong. They were the driving force behind a bill to remove the rights of a group of people just because they feel the bible tells them we're wrong because of who we love.
@cocobabyballerina completely with you on that. i am not mormon and surely don't follow any other religion, however, religion in itself i believe is not a bad thing. every religion has its extremists, and you shouldn't be judging an entire community based on the acts of their extremists. it's not fair
In my view on this proposition 8 issue i don't see both sides are all-correct. Both the gay/lesbian populations and the religious parties have crossed the line. But one thing does not look good for the gay/lesbian is that the religious organisations have not use any deception or fault accusations to fight this "war".
Let's establish Catholicism as a requirement to marriage, so Mormons should have to change their allegiance. Then they might realize what they are doing...
May be, but not untill their prophet say so (which would be 0.00000000001% of chance, meaning their prophet and all the apostles are gay.). Look, the gay/lesbian trying to change the traditional family values is not going to be easy. Even if they get through the Christians and Cathloics, the last line of defence in America would still be the Mormons because they would never change their family values, it serves them for 180 years, why would they change it now?
This isn't entirely true. But i am a mormon and this is what i think, just as you have the freedom of speech, so does my church. And personally, i can see that it wouldn't be fair to take away the freedoms of those who are gay. Because those are the same freedoms that allow me to worship freely. Everybody calm down.
"cheesy dramatic reenactments... the flaws pale against what's illustrated, which is not just how Prop. 8 passed, but the sordid, cynical workings of our political machine."
The Wall Street Journal
"Messy and sometimes downright cheesy,... (it) reminds us — no, insists that we remember — that demonizing a group doesn’t make the world a better place."
Here is my view. What does gay marriage have to do with the mormons? In fact, if I was a church owner, I would allow it, hey...more money for me! Gay people like to spend money so thus I make money. It's a win-win! I am not a religious man, in fact I am a homosexual I think we should have rights and the christians should go back in their caves and leave us NORMAL PEOPLE ALONE.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Gays: to vote yes on proposition 8, is a hate crime against our freedom to help bob marry Fred, even of it's immoral conduct— but hey we're retarded, and we don't have morals.
People with morals: to vote no on proposition 8, is a hate crime on morals, and religion.
Me: do you see the logic in the response given by the faggots? Well, you don't have to. (vote yes on proposition 8).
Also I'm not the one who voted for George w bush, which proves I didn't help cause the war in the middle east, idiot. Also homosexual actions is a BEHAVIOR— that means it can be contolled. I mean, I can control myself from making out with a girl, even if I'm attracted to girls, moron. Another point, I didn't vote Obama in. Your the cause of stupidity in America
That's probably because your sons peeped into your bedroom to see you having sex with your boyfriend. Growup. Their is not one known gene that proves that one can be gay, involuntarily.
@Nashhinton and yet they have biologically changed the orientation of fruit flies and earthworms to gay and back. Seems that there is something scientific after all, especially since it's existed for so long. People used to say black men and women were just the mark of Cain, and then science proved those fanatics wrong too. Even the world being flat was doctrine in the church.
@Nashhinton nope. it had nothing to do with homosexuality, but in-hospitality. You have to go back to the original writings. it's been translated and interpreted in many different ways by small-minded men out for personal gain..... which is probably why its a poor source to base laws of a nation on. But if you really love basing your laws on religious scriptures, move to the Middle East and join the Taliban.
I'm not Mormon but I do agree on proposition 8. Also, oysters, clams, and other mollusk type creatures change their gender— they're not gay! We don't change our gender (unless your screwed up in the mind) we have a brain, and sinse we use more than 10% of our brain, use the other percentage to NOT be gay. There are tons of stories of gay people becoming straight, first, by not acting upon the sin.
@Nashhinton And i have seen the reactions of people who have "gone straight" because of reparitive therapy and later killed themselves. Religion has no place in government and IS A TOTAL CHOICE AND HAS NO RIGHT TO BE A PROTECTED CLASS. Believe me, if you want any further proof that homosexuality runs in families, look at mine. 4 sons, 2 gay.
Your RELIGION is not MY LAW. If any religion doesn't want something practiced then leave it in to the churches members to not practice it. Don't control anyone else's life because your particular religion claims it's a sin. To change the law because of religion is ridiculous. If any religious group wants to interfere with the laws of our land, then they should pay taxes. (That would get California out of debt fast, so let's create a proposition about that instead of a proposition of hate.)
Gays need to growup and smell the coffee. I mean nobody is stupid enough to think that you cannot control your homosexual BEHAVIOR (gays can control their gay BEHAVIOR)! It's also stupid for them to get married, sinse marriage is a religious principle. Have you ever heard of the story of Sodom and gommorah? If gay marriage gets legalalized in all states, it will be just like Sodom and gommorah.
@Nashhinton Sodom and Gommorah had nothing to do with homosexuality.
Instead of spending 22million dollars to take away the rights of humans why not spend it to feed the poor and heal the sick... you know that stuff Jesus TOLD you care about.
@Nashhinton Bigotry is a choice, religion is a choice, hate is a behavior, homosexulaity is a lifestyle. Git it through your thick fucking skull, people like you are the reason we are over in Iraq fighting oppression.
Question, Why are only the mormons targeted? The mormons were not the only people that voted against it. All you bitches that preach about love and equality need to rethink your strategy.
You only target the mormons because they are an easy target.
LDS FOR LIFE BITCHES!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAH Fuck all you bitches!!!!
@BRgoalie hypocrite. everything you just said could be asked of you. WHY would the spend 22 million dollars to discriminate against gays instead of doing something worthwhile? Because you think we are an easy target? the same 1st amendment that gives your little crazy underwear cult the right to exist keeps us free from having it forced on us.
Political documentaries should be held suspect because someone's agenda always overrides the other. Documentary is a tool of conversion, not education.
They are standing up for what they believe just like you are standing up for what you believe. You can't slam them for that. And if they are only 2% of the population then there were a lot more than just mormons voting.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ recognise the family as being central to the purpose of being - which is why they will do all that they can to protect it as an institution. Even if there was no God, the laws of nature dictates that sexual relations are meant only for two of the opposite sex. Although I recognise that some have certain susceptibilities which make some choices harder than others, the fact still remains that there is always a choice to be made
@devi8tour and yet homosexual behavior occurs everywhere in the animal kingdom... there are animals that will switch genders in their lifetime... truly God and Mother nature meant for some of us to be more fabulous.
1:00 "If god puts it in his scriptures that its a sin.."
WRONG. Telling me, a straight man, not to sleep with another man is redundant, as i find it repulsive. I WOULDN'T CONSIDER IT.
The fact that the bible forbids it, means that it recognizes that homosexuality is natural and is out there (even if its a sin), and may e completely normal.
I am a religious man but i still believe that homosexuality is something you may be born with. This lady is stupid.
NOT a choice any more than a spina bifida or club foot that your 'god' puts upon an innocent baby. Scientists will track this to the hormones, genes, whatever. Your 'god' (or nature) chooses to do this whatever reason (population/pollution control?). If you don't want such marriages in your church, make it for Justice of Peace only, butstop blaming people for how they were born.
This movie is pathetic...LDS people do not hate gays but don't believe in same sex marriage. you can be gay if your LDS just without acting upon it PLUS out of all the voting on this the LDS people made up ONLY 2% that said no to it...
This movie is pathetic...LDS people do not hate gays but don't believe in same sex marriage. you can be gay if your LDS just without acting upon it PLUS out of all the voting on this the LDS people made up ONLY 2% that said no to it...
I don't agree with the Mormon religion, but they really did a wonderful thing to keep those filthy beasts from having rights like normal humans have. May God bless them for that and guide them.
If only 2% of the people in California are Mormon, then who voted to not pass the law. So what if they gave alot of money, should the homosexual community not be allowed to donate to their cause.
i just wish that everyone agreed with everything and its not all the mormons fault there are plenty of other people who don't want same sex marriages to happen so everyone who thinks its just mormons there are tons of other people who don't want it so why does everyone have to blame us its not fair
@thehippieloverfork - The KKK and the average southern churchie in 1950's America didn't want mixed marriages to happen either, we see how long their control lasted. Gays became the next available hate sponge after racism lost its appeal. People are always looking for a group to stereotype, the whole "All fags have the hivs and molest kids" shit is just like hicks in the old days saying all blacks rape white women and sell drugs. It's a tactic to dehumanize the enemy.
This is wrong, in the UK we ( the gay community ) have the right to be wed in religious buildings, If a man and a woman were denied to be wed, then there would be a massive uprising, why must we be penalised too ? Sometimes i think the USA is a hypocritical society and this has just proved it !
Mormons are great! This is what we think shouldn't have happen. We don't hate anyone that is homosexual but are beliefs that heavenly father told us was that we shouldn't have same sex marriages. So all of you that say that we are dumb and whatever should just shut up because we are doing in what we believe is right!
@thehippieloverfork I don't think Mormons are dumb, I just think they are ignorant. You may lack the knowledge of why same-sex couples should have equal rights but you don't lack the ability to understand. Nobody is forcing you or anyone who doesn't want to be in a same-sex relationship to be in a same-sex relationship, and you shouldn't impose your beliefs onto other people. Religion is far more of a lifestyle choice than being gay.
@thehippieloverfork - Your religion does not -control- the government. If it did we'd have folks sacrificing children (Gen. 22 1-18, Judges 11 29-40), cops allowing rapists to go free after they pay a 50 shekel fine to the girl's dad and permanently marrying her (Deut. 22 28-29), genocide against other religions (Deut 13 13-19), and folks would still have slaves since God says that's A-OK. (Levit. 25 44-46, Exo. 21 20-21, 1st Peter 2: 18, Exo. 21 2-6).
@Death2Bigots well we do not control the government but we feel that gay marriage shouldn't be happening and its not our fault that the government only cares about money
@thehippieloverfork - "its not our fault that the government only cares about money" Yes, the gub'ment should just bow the fuck down to your little churchfag wants and turn into a theocracy. If you wanna live in a society where religion decides what's legal and who lives and who dies, go move to Iraq with the Phelps Phags. You and Fred and the Muslims can team up and kill all the fags you want, but they might eventually hang your asses for believing in Yahweh instead of Allah. Religion = shit.
@Death2Bigots wait I thought the residents of California voted on this, and it wasn't decided by a govermental figure? And to say that someone should move to another country, could go both ways. And your kinda sounding like a Bigot yourself.
@loewen712 - Meh, I just get a kick out of using their own attitudes and sayings against them. I do it for the lulz and for irony. I don't hate all churchfags, just the silly ones who think they should have any kind of power to control other people's lives. Controlling your own churches, that's fine, but trying to redefine marriage, a concept you don't own that existed long before Christianity? THAT is truly ghey. Marriage should be a GOVERNMENT thing, not a religious thing.
@loewen712 - And notice I said "-IF- you wanna live in a society where religion decides what's legal and who lives and who dies" -THEN- he (or she) should move to Iraq. Thankfully here in the good ole U.S. of A, we have a lovely thing called Separation of Church and State. Without it, churchies would be able to kill whoever they want and say "Oh, well Gawd told me to!" and they'd get off scott free, or a state paid teacher could start spouting off about Intelligent Design or how God Hates Fags.
To noharmdun, you're certainly not going to win any arguments or converts to your way of thinking by denigrating & belittling those of us who believe marriage is a human right, regardless of sexual orientation/preference.
@jubileedoo it's funny how everyone of you guys accuse me of the SAME EXACT THINGS you all are guilty of....and you can't see it?. LOL! that is so poor of you. all i did was express my beliefs and i get bigots calling ME a bigot...haha! i think all that anal is pushing crap up into your heads...embarrassing
Amazing how ignorant religious morons can be.. They think FREEDOM means free to keep slaves and slave classes. We pay equal tax yet we are not receiving equal protection or equality. They completely ignore the founders of our country and think a religiou theocracy is the way to go, only when it bites them in the ass again will they learn. And it will as soon the State will have an approved list of Christianity, and maybe their particular brand of Christianity will be on the hit list.
@noharmdun How does your answer address what I said? Do you agree that an out of state church that donates a vast amount of money to influence a state's elections maybe, just MAYBE, is dabbling in politics and should not be tax exempt?
@docmartin72 Totally agree. Of course, the Mormon Church would say this is a social issue & has nothing to do with politics, however they're using a political platform to deny rights to millions of gay people. They need to practice what they preach. We are ALL god's children. God does not make "mistakes of nature". God gives us challenges to see if we rise to them, or falter. The Mormon Church needs to remember this.
I could care less for the tax and money that is given. All I could care about is being legally bounded with my partner when the time comes. And if I was to adopted, for me to have a way to help my kid. That is all. For love, and for family, that would be the reason for me wanting to get married. For the religious? You can be religious, but why step on my love? Is it fair to say "we dont like who you love, you should love this person"? I dont think so, because I know you would hate if I did that
One of the most influential studies on the genetics of homosexuality was done by Dean Hamer and his co-workers at the National Cancer Institute in Washington DC (1993). Hamer's research involved studying thirty-two pairs of brothers who were either "exclusively or mostly" homosexual. None of the sets of brothers were related. Of the thirty-two pairs, Hamer and his colleagues found that two-thirds of them (twenty-two of the sets of brothers) shared the same type of genetic material. (Evidence!!)
Mormans have been fighting over marriage rights for more than a century. They are still feeling conflicted over the US Govt's demand they stop having lots of multiple young wives. This was their big chance to get revenge by taking marriage rights away from someone else. Gays are a minority even less popular than Mormans, so by the ethics of the pecking order, Mormans should attack Gays. Why not take your spiritual advice from Chickens?
What is there to disprove about religion, religion is just ignorant claims requiring faith. You have no evidence to support any of it. My life has meaning because of the tangible values I create for humanity, that make life more fun and people happy. Evolution is not a miracle, it is a fact of science inspite of your ignorance. Irrationality dosn't give your life meaning, it only gives you a miraculous deception and delusion which you spread like an infection.
@MyITRcom wrong. evidence has been obtained. and yes, only through faith can one obtain it. and i HOPE you truly do have values that can contribute to the betterment and quality of life.
@noharmdun That is what we call confirmation bias and it is a logical fallacy. We know better now, we know that Zues isn't behind bolts of lightening, we know that Gods are moving the planets around. We are smarter then this today, we have this incredible tool that lets us know reality for real and one product of that tool is the very computer your using, that tool is science and it also lets us know that Gays are as normal as the rest of humanity, unlike religion that keeps man in dark ages
@noharmdun You must care about your own mind in order to learn how your thinking is flawed, that is not something I or anyone else can do for you. Your thinking and reasoning are flawed and must be in order to make room for your religious delusions. Until you understand the concepts of logic, your not in a position to see your own flawed thinking.
I think we can know the answer by the intent of the Creators of our Country...
"Of liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its extent, it is unobstructed action according to our will. But rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual."
@MyITRcom The 14th amendment is very problematic to apply here. It does not comport with original intent, requires selective reading & can be used to justify all sorts of other types of marriages (3 people, man + goat, etc).
@AdShox Thanks for proving your ignorance. Two consenting equal tax paying adults is just that and in both cases. So grow up alreayd and get over your bigotry, it will do you some good. I know you lose blaming your life problems on us, but sometimes its just good to grow up and live and let live.

I have no problem with individuals or businesses giving to cause they believe in, but they have to pay taxes.
anniebanniect 1 year ago 2
What I saw: "It's wrong to be prejudiced," followed by, "Mormons are bad."
Why are Mormons bad?
- They give up their money to support causes they believe in.
- Um ... they wear suits?
benabaxter 1 year ago
@benabaxter It's not about that, it's about a systematic effort by the head of the mormon church to make a political change using the money of their worshippers. They effectively meddled in politics, quite successfully too, and for that they should get their tax exempt status removed.
artgeek707 1 year ago
@benabaxter Maybe I can explain it. First of all, the church receives tax exemptions and as a condition for that must remain apolitical. The Mormon church is far from apolitical. Second of all, it threatened to kick out members for not contributing. That's manipulative, abusive, and --quite frankly--sickening. Those are two of the major points. You missed it somehow.
PrepeiNaSasPw 1 year ago
@PrepeiNaSasPw Morality is inseparable from most politics, and the attempt to divorce the two is causing the great crisis in truth we see today. This is because moral issues in politics were moral first, and then became politicized.
benabaxter 1 year ago
@benabaxter Really? Then why did the LDS Church do everything it could to hide from the the public that they were behind this? If it makes so much sense for churches to be involved in politics, then be honest about it. Also, you are missing the point -- tax exempt status is given to churches and it is contingent on their not engaging in politics.
PrepeiNaSasPw 1 year ago
@benabaxter Oh yeah, and you are right, I suppose about the two being so mixed but it goes both ways -- Mormons capitulated on the polygamy issue only AFTER political pressure was asserted. In that case, politics influenced "morality."
PrepeiNaSasPw 1 year ago
@PrepeiNaSasPw Mormons devout enough to tithe by and large support the Church's actions. If they did not believe what their church believes, they wouldn't be Mormon except for social pressures. Having been to the inside of a church in my life, and having actually met believers, I can tell you the proportion of church attendees who don't believe church teaching and yet who still attend regularly is very small indeed.
benabaxter 1 year ago
@PrepeiNaSasPw
where the hell did you hear of the church threatening to kick out members for not donating any money to the proposition. Im a member of the church residing in california who hasnt devoted (nor my family) one penny to the prop 8 movement and nobody threatened to take away my membership. But what do i know? you're just going to call me a bigot
thomasadamnelson 1 year ago
@thomasadamnelson Watch the film. Mormons in the film tell about this. It's good that it didn't happen to you, but it did happen to others. Also, why would I call you a bigot? Nothing you wrote even faintly resembled bigotry -- though, I would advise against such an aggressive tone (i.e., "where the hell"). It's unnecessary.
PrepeiNaSasPw 1 year ago
this is a dumb film. it is full of inaccuracies and falsehoods. Yes the church did give money to support prop 8, but it did not propose it. that was the legislature of the state of california.
kac182003 1 year ago
@kac182003 Prop 8 was not proposed by the legislature. It was proposed by Protect Marriage and the film makes a compelling case that this group was created behind the scenes by Mormons. Maybe you should watch it before saying it is "full of inaccuracies." Also, please check your *own* facts before you post about "inaccuracies" and "falsehoods."
PrepeiNaSasPw 1 year ago
@PrepeiNaSasPw I don't need to watch it. I know antimormon propaganda when I see it. and this is most definantly antimormon propaganda.
kac182003 1 year ago
@kac182003 You do need to see it in order to credibly state that it is "full" of inaccuracies and falsehoods. How do you know it doesn't have *some* accurate statements if you haven't seen it? Isn't it a bit like someone judging the Mormon religion as crazy because you believe that Joseph Smith got some magical disappearing tablets that came from God, who is really just human living on his own planet, and that one day all Mormons will be gods living on their own planets? Without knowing more?
PrepeiNaSasPw 1 year ago
@PrepeiNaSasPw Plus, prop 8 became a state law and for something to become law it is required to go through the legislature then, then voted upon by the people then be signed by the governor. this is what happened with prop 8. you should study your US government more.
kac182003 1 year ago
@kac182003 Not all laws in California go through the legislature. Ballot propositions, like Proposition 8, are (usually) initiated by citizen groups and put on the ballot for California voters to vote on -- in that case, the legislature does *not* vote on it. Also, I should point out that this is a question California government, not U.S. government, which is separate. Do you even bother to google the accuracy of your views before posting? It could save you some embarrassment.

You might want to read those.
sydleberry9 1 year ago
If you believe in FREEDOM, and EQUAL rights, then there is no valid reason why a gay couple can't request a marriage license from the state. If you are gay, and are against gay marriage, then don't get married it's as simple as that. Don't tell other people what they can and cannot do, and what YOU think is RIGHT or WRONG, that's just ridiculous. What's right for one may not be right for another and that's what FREEDOM is about!

cocobabyballerina 1 year ago
@cocobabyballerina Then why did they admit to dumping $180000 into Proposition 8. They are completely wrong. They were the driving force behind a bill to remove the rights of a group of people just because they feel the bible tells them we're wrong because of who we love.
bonemybrass36 1 year ago
@cocobabyballerina completely with you on that. i am not mormon and surely don't follow any other religion, however, religion in itself i believe is not a bad thing. every religion has its extremists, and you shouldn't be judging an entire community based on the acts of their extremists. it's not fair

Let just say, if the gay/lesbian keep up with the false accusations and half truth, they are just fighting a losing war.
iamsonny 1 year ago
In my view on this proposition 8 issue i don't see both sides are all-correct. Both the gay/lesbian populations and the religious parties have crossed the line. But one thing does not look good for the gay/lesbian is that the religious organisations have not use any deception or fault accusations to fight this "war".
iamsonny 1 year ago
@iamsonny
Let's establish Catholicism as a requirement to marriage, so Mormons should have to change their allegiance. Then they might realize what they are doing...
fanagot 1 year ago
@fanagot
May be, but not untill their prophet say so (which would be 0.00000000001% of chance, meaning their prophet and all the apostles are gay.). Look, the gay/lesbian trying to change the traditional family values is not going to be easy. Even if they get through the Christians and Cathloics, the last line of defence in America would still be the Mormons because they would never change their family values, it serves them for 180 years, why would they change it now?
iamsonny 1 year ago
@iamsonny How could the gay community "cross the line" when all we want is to be treated as equals? Is that asking too much?
bonemybrass36 1 year ago 2
This isn't entirely true. But i am a mormon and this is what i think, just as you have the freedom of speech, so does my church.

I don't agree with the Mormon religion, but they really did a wonderful thing to keep those filthy beasts from having rights like normal humans have. May God bless them for that and guide them.

If only 2% of the people in California are Mormon, then who voted to not pass the law. So what if they gave alot of money, should the homosexual community not be allowed to donate to their cause.
loewen712 1 year ago
i just wish that everyone agreed with everything and its not all the mormons fault there are plenty of other people who don't want same sex marriages to happen so everyone who thinks its just mormons there are tons of other people who don't want it so why does everyone have to blame us its not fair
thehippieloverfork 1 year ago
@thehippieloverfork - The KKK and the average southern churchie in 1950's America didn't want mixed marriages to happen either, we see how long their control lasted. Gays became the next available hate sponge after racism lost its appeal. People are always looking for a group to stereotype, the whole "All fags have the hivs and molest kids" shit is just like hicks in the old days saying all blacks rape white women and sell drugs. It's a tactic to dehumanize the enemy.
Death2Bigots 1 year ago
This is wrong, in the UK we ( the gay community ) have the right to be wed in religious buildings, If a man and a woman were denied to be wed, then there would be a massive uprising, why must we be penalised too ? Sometimes i think the USA is a hypocritical society and this has just proved it !
PrincePaganist 1 year ago 2
Mormons are great! This is what we think shouldn't have happen. We don't hate anyone that is homosexual but are beliefs that heavenly father told us was that we shouldn't have same sex marriages. So all of you that say that we are dumb and whatever should just shut up because we are doing in what we believe is right!
thehippieloverfork 1 year ago
@thehippieloverfork I don't think Mormons are dumb, I just think they are ignorant. You may lack the knowledge of why same-sex couples should have equal rights but you don't lack the ability to understand. Nobody is forcing you or anyone who doesn't want to be in a same-sex relationship to be in a same-sex relationship, and you shouldn't impose your beliefs onto other people. Religion is far more of a lifestyle choice than being gay.
TheMagneticField 1 year ago
@thehippieloverfork - Your religion does not -control- the government. If it did we'd have folks sacrificing children (Gen. 22 1-18, Judges 11 29-40), cops allowing rapists to go free after they pay a 50 shekel fine to the girl's dad and permanently marrying her (Deut. 22 28-29), genocide against other religions (Deut 13 13-19), and folks would still have slaves since God says that's A-OK. (Levit. 25 44-46, Exo. 21 20-21, 1st Peter 2: 18, Exo. 21 2-6).
Death2Bigots 1 year ago
@Death2Bigots well we do not control the government but we feel that gay marriage shouldn't be happening and its not our fault that the government only cares about money
thehippieloverfork 1 year ago
@thehippieloverfork - "its not our fault that the government only cares about money" Yes, the gub'ment should just bow the fuck down to your little churchfag wants and turn into a theocracy. If you wanna live in a society where religion decides what's legal and who lives and who dies, go move to Iraq with the Phelps Phags. You and Fred and the Muslims can team up and kill all the fags you want, but they might eventually hang your asses for believing in Yahweh instead of Allah. Religion = shit.
Death2Bigots 1 year ago
@Death2Bigots wait I thought the residents of California voted on this, and it wasn't decided by a govermental figure? And to say that someone should move to another country, could go both ways. And your kinda sounding like a Bigot yourself.
loewen712 1 year ago
@loewen712 - Meh, I just get a kick out of using their own attitudes and sayings against them. I do it for the lulz and for irony. I don't hate all churchfags, just the silly ones who think they should have any kind of power to control other people's lives. Controlling your own churches, that's fine, but trying to redefine marriage, a concept you don't own that existed long before Christianity? THAT is truly ghey. Marriage should be a GOVERNMENT thing, not a religious thing.
Death2Bigots 1 year ago
@loewen712 - And notice I said "-IF- you wanna live in a society where religion decides what's legal and who lives and who dies" -THEN- he (or she) should move to Iraq. Thankfully here in the good ole U.S. of A, we have a lovely thing called Separation of Church and State. Without it, churchies would be able to kill whoever they want and say "Oh, well Gawd told me to!" and they'd get off scott free, or a state paid teacher could start spouting off about Intelligent Design or how God Hates Fags.

@loewen712 thank you

To noharmdun, you're certainly not going to win any arguments or converts to your way of thinking by denigrating & belittling those of us who believe marriage is a human right, regardless of sexual orientation/preference.

The sick cult of Mormons need to be taxed, as they violate the separation of church and state. Furthermore, donor names should be released.
docmartin72 1 year ago
@docmartin72 the state won't rule on what the church says, but what the people say.
noharmdun 1 year ago
@noharmdun How does your answer address what I said? Do you agree that an out of state church that donates a vast amount of money to influence a state's elections maybe, just MAYBE, is dabbling in politics and should not be tax exempt?
docmartin72 1 year ago

Why not take your spiritual advice from Chickens?
grumpystiltskin 1 year ago 2
What is there to disprove about religion, religion is just ignorant claims requiring faith. You have no evidence to support any of it. My life has meaning because of the tangible values I create for humanity, that make life more fun and people happy. Evolution is not a miracle, it is a fact of science inspite of your ignorance. Irrationality dosn't give your life meaning, it only gives you a miraculous deception and delusion which you spread like an infection.
MyITRcom 1 year ago

@MyITRcom bahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! are you for real???? WWWWOW!!! GREAT ARGUMENT! THIS IS THE WINNER! LOL! you're kewl!

No matter how one wants to slice and dice and chop the law to ones view, it will never make discrimination and bigotry the right answer.
MyITRcom 1 year ago
I think we can know the answer by the intent of the Creators of our Country...
"Of liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its extent, it is unobstructed action according to our will. But rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual."
~Thomas Jefferson...
MyITRcom 1 year ago
@MyITRcom The 14th amendment is very problematic to apply here. It does not comport with original intent, requires selective reading & can be used to justify all sorts of other types of marriages (3 people, man + goat, etc).
AdShox 1 year ago
@AdShox Thanks for proving your ignorance. Two consenting equal tax paying adults is just that and in both cases. So grow up alreayd and get over your bigotry, it will do you some good. I know you lose blaming your life problems on us, but sometimes its just good to grow up and live and let live.
