i love star trek as much as any fan, but to this day they still haven't had a gay character that wasn't gay because they were an alien. in fact, i can't even think of a character who was full on gay and not just bisexual, again because they were an alien. the original trek was unbelievably brave: the first black character, a russian during the cold war, and so on. the ones since then have been pretty timid.
