@Gumbo2x You know that RepRap was around before the Makerbot was, right? Search youtube for "Make a Reprap Robot Part 1" - you can see Bre Pettis trying to make one. The original electronics for the RepRap Mendel were the same as the Makerbot 3rd gen electronics. Makerbot Inc doesn't seem to want to acknowledge it in their interviews but it seems clear that the Makerbot was derived mostly from RepRap work (Zack was on the RepRap team, etc).
@jlkeegan no I didn't know this, thanks. I had thought that both projects were completely independend from each other. As I understand, the technique is not exactly the same, as the Makerbot has a vacuum chamber and the RepRap hasn't.
@Gumbo2x No, Makerbot doesn't have a vaccum chamber. The devices do the same thing: grip plastic, push it down into a heater barrel, extrude it out of a nozzle, and lay that plastic down onto a platform that (relative to the nozzle) moves in X and Y, with the nozzle at some point (relative to the bed) moving away from the bed. That's basically it.
Interesting, you use MakerBot parts to build a RepRap

You look like you have way too much money to get all those bits all at once.
You know you don't actually need Nylocs, you can use regular nuts and use a threadlocker

Where'd you order the belts, and the mechanical bits (rods, screws, etc...)?
