This is one thing that has forever confused me: What's the difference between Indian blackhead and just aluminium powder?

Indian blackhead is produced by flattening sheets of aluminum foil in between a volatile flammable paper which is ball milled for a period of time. The resulting powder is then burnt in an inert atmosphere with no oxygen until the paper is completely charred. Aluminum Oxide is unable to form in such an atmosphere so it is instead coated with compounds from the burnt paper forming a Aluminum Carbide, etc. These are more reactive than AlO, making it a much more sensitive, brissant aluminum.

well i would have to say the #1 most used chemical by beginners is KNO3. you should also get charcoal if you cant make it, and possibly some sulfer.
