1) what happens if you get to Japan and then suddenly something happens back home that you have to attend to, like a funeral, in the first month? are they sensitive to those situations?
2) have you heard of anything like the above situation happening?
3) how many vacation days do you get (not including Japanese national holidays)?
@Japanthief for long questions like this, it's better to post in the forums over at JapanJuku(dot)com where I can respond without limits and the info can benefit others as well...
briefly 1 - they would be sensitive and work with you
2 - yes
3 - most JETs get 20 paid days, but it varies
4 - yes, within reason - you have to ask, but they're flexible
You are sooo kind... I myself get kinda tired answering questions from viewers that can easily be googled. You'd think anyone media-savy enough to watch youtube, would also know how to do a little internet research.
I can't believe it's only been a year since I applied!! That is crazy! I can't believe I've been here for a month! Really?! Good job keeping the information loop alive Jason! ^-^
Another suggestion: Sign up for your local consulate's mailing list, if they have one. The S.F. Consulate recently sent out an updated list of info sessions for the year, a list which isn't even on their website yet.
I will have to wait on JET for a couple of years. I graduate next August, however, I am aiming for the 2012 Olympics in Judo. I feel I have a pretty good chance at making it. Good job Jason allowing everyone to know that they can apply again here soon. You are still on top of your game. =)
B - that would be so cool if you got to the Olympics!! Oddly enough, since all my relatives live in England, I might be able to go to the 2012 games. Good luck!
I start Judo again next week and I can't wait. I train M-F for 2-2 1/2 hrs a day. I definitely put my work into it and I hope it all pays off in the end. Would be awesome to have ya there cheering me on. Thanks for the "Good Luck." =)
I love that you still use "nantoka" Gives me hope for when I leave.
In you opinion, what do you think of the new ruling party of Japan, thier vow to lessen ties to America and what that means for potential incoming American JETs?
I'd like to think that all the people that have benefited from JET over the past 20 years would voice their opinion as to how worthwhile the program is, but I'm not really sure yet how much political bite the DPJ will eventually have.
I will probably be manning the JET desk at CSU Chico's career fair again this fall, as I have for quite a few years now. Hope to see lots of people there!
The JET process is a pain in the neck!! If you are going to apply you need to have a "Plan B" just in case they don't select you. JET is the "Holy Grail" of ALT jobs but there are other options out there.
thanks - will keep everyone posted. BTW - have you heard of a recruiting firm called Westgate. They have some interesting positions, but I've never known anyone that has worked for them. westgate(dot)co(dot)jp

It wasn't a stupid question at all - it was just representative of many similar questions I get from non-native speakers. No worries at all.
I thought that maybe people don't know about the Japanese consulate in their country being a good source of info for JET, hence I made this vid.

One reference is on it's way to me now. The other one is in the process of creation... getting prepared.
Everthing else is ready (personal stateent, etc.), just have to wait to graduate in 2months then who knows... (^-^)
Looking forward to more videos and also thankyou for the shoutouts. I subscribed to quite a few channels.

I agree - there are plenty of ways to come to work in Japan other than JET - many of which I am exploring now as I hope to return in 2010.

Let us know if you need any help from the Japan side. Though I am guessing you got that covered already. :-)
