@Delorian82 I dont know if youre aware but at the moment in Italy there is a political movement to get "Neopolitan"recognised as an official minority language in Italy. . . . .
This is so freaking superb! I f*cking love this song. Not an Italian, but the song has a completely different taste, and it makes the Sopranos so unique! The entire cast kicks ass! Again, LOVE this track.
Maybe there is some Arabic influence in it, since the Arabs occupied parts of Italy centuries ago, but it's way beyond that, the Romans occupied half of the middle east at one point, and before them the Greeks. The reality is its useless to ponder upon such issues, the Mediterranean peoples have invaded, occupied and traded with each other so much over the last 5000 years that there is no telling what originated where! All I know is this song is 20th Italian
@shaqip Italy has been a cultural hub since Roman times. They take the best and make it better. This song is 100% Italian. More specifically Neopolitan.
@Delorian82 I know its 100% Italian, what I'm saying is that the 100% Italian, has some Greek, Arab, etc.. influences in it! In Levant, olive oil is at the core of the culture, yet if you go back far enough, you'll find that it may have been introduced to the region by the Romans or the Greeks. It doesn't mean this song isn't Italian, it absolutely is, I am agreeing with you here, the song is 100% Italian and just because Italy has been influenced by other cultures, doesn't mean it's not Italian
@Delorian82 I think the relationship if far more noticeable than what you just proposed, every person who I showed this song to thought it was an Arabic song in the beginning, you can certainly hear the influence. All I'm saying, is that just because its similar doesn't mean its any less Italian. You should read older the comments preceding mine, in order for you to see why I said what I said.
@Delorian82 Wtf are you talking about my wife is from Naples of course its in Itay, i think youve misread my comment i said the language Neopolitans speak is not the official language of Italy although everyone can speak Italian as well. . . . .
@dixon97a No, it's wrong. I'm Neapolitan, 100% Neapolitan. If you want to know something more 'on the subject , ask me , I'm here for you. Sorry for my English!
@IlGeneralissimo Is the camorra really has ingrained into society as roberto saviano said? And which one is the biggest, the camorra, the ndrangheta, or the mafia?
@taylorhicksluva All the people in Italy speak "correct" Italian i agree, i dont know your understanding of the word dialect but let me assure you once you go north of Rome people will be lucky to understand 50% of the lyrics of this song unless they are reading it. . . .
@dixon97a No not all people speak "correct" Italian. I am Sicilian and our dialect is different for the "correct" Italian spoken in Rome & Naples. Each dialect is different in each part of Italy. And please don't tell me my understanding. And this group is from Naples and can assure you that you are wrong about people north of Rome don't understand the sone without reason it. You are probably a regular old white American thinking he knows everything about italy because he heard a song.
@taylorhicksluva No mate i dont want to know anymore than i already do about America, i was just making a point that this song is not sung in Italian, are you aware that at the moment in Italy there is a political movement in their parliament to make "Neopolitan" an official language of Italy???
@taylorhicksluva In that case im failing to understand your point, are you claiming this isnt sung in "Neopolitan"or that all Italian speakers can understand the lyrics? Also i dont claim to know anything about Italy my heritage is Irish but my wife knows a lot about Italy because she spent the first 24 years of her life living in Naples. . . Tua madre era scopata da un maiale. . . .
@dixon97a You missed my point completely!! I'm 18 I was born & raised in Sicily and? tu madre era scopata da un uomo nero. prego non iniziare una guerra è solito vincere.femmine stupide.
@dixon97a And don't dare ever bring my mother into a conversation again. You and your stupid wife can go fuck yourselfs. id odio me stesso se mi è stato da Napoli

I am from Naples, the Neapolitan is a language, read the link, and not speak unless you know the culture of Naples.is not considered a dialect but a real language.

@tellASR This is Sicilian music there is some Northern influence but those drums are are African. Also the verses are similar to North African,Latin Afro Sicilian.Italy was infused with Arabic,African, and other cultures for centuries.

@makkool the matter is too long to explain here -.-' and espacially to a persono who claim to know italian history better than italians. I'd say that the rythm of this music is more similar to southern mediterranean rythms than to the northern europe's ones.
@makkool anyway I'm sorry If I've been rude, but it's not a good moment to us the italians, so we always try to defende our country and it can happen that we appear to be rude...this was no intention of mine :D as you know the italians are kind good people :D
@makkool As some already told you, this song is neapolitan (it talks about Vesuvio, the vulcan sumbol of Naples, have you ever heard of Pompeii?), it belongs to a folk music genre, the "tammurriata" , typical of Campania - the italian region whereof Naples is the most important city - and has his origin expecially in the greek culture. It takes is name from the principal instrument used in this genre, the "tammorra", a sort of big drum. Totally different from Sicily music tradition.

people talking about sopranos ending as a shame, i agree but at least it stayed true and every episode was beautiful. I wish all writers and producers had the same conviction and artistic vision as david chase and everyone involved in the show, that i will always hold dear to me AND IM A BRITISH HALF IRANIAN. The story of culture family good evil and many other aspects in this show transend ethnic origin and time.
@lirumlarum777 Every Nation has its good and bad guys .. Its Ying Yang ... Its life .. You will learn that when cultures collide .. you will learn about culture when you watch sopranos ..
@Manolobartolo I think he was saying that if a show like Sex and The City managed to get 2 movies (1 was stupid, 2 is insane) than an amazing show like The Sopranos should have at least gotten a movie.
Anybody know the name or where i can find that song that is playing when Carmela is at a resturant day dreaming about furio while lookin a painting of italy, then Tony tells her: A simple yes or no will do and then everybody laughs?????

I grew up loving this son since i watched it in sopranos. everytime i get sort of emotional or have loving feelings i sing it, even though i do not understand the language.
Those who live with you dont be surprise if they go mad they really are mad. The only safety for us would be to run away from you... and yet, where shall we go? sooner or later this river of lava will drag us along and leave us homeless. 1:40 Chi campa nzieme a te te pare niente si esce pazzo è pazzo overamente Lunica verità pe tutte quante sarria chella e fuì ma po arò iammo primma ca cocche ghiuorne stu ffuoco e lava ce porta a tuttu quante mmieza via !
Spaccanapoli is the name recently assumed by E Zezi, a group formed by workers of the Fiat (the Italian biggest auto industry); E Zezi were and are leftist by a political point of view, their songs are for the working class people, the poors and the underdogs. A wonderful funky version of this song is played by 24 Grana, another band - they're such the "Alice in Chains of Naples", talking about drug addiction, etc. Thanks forposting.
Whats the song that's playing when the guys are in Italy to meet up with Furio and his crew, when Christopher is fucked up on heroin laying in his hotel? (Italian song)

@NSeuropa no non si insegna il Napoletano perchè l'unità d'italia non fu un unità ma una conquista.

people talking about sopranos ending as a shame, i agree but at least it stayed true and every episode was beautiful. I wish all writers and producers had the same conviction and artistic vision as david chase and everyone involved in the show, that i will always hold dear to me AND IM A BRITISH HALF IRANIAN. The story of culture family good evil and many other aspects in this show transend ethnic origin and time.

this was one of my fav parts of the sopranos ever, with carmela and furio then with tony, it was soo dramatic and intense

comparing sex and the city with the Sopranos?.. comon get it together
Manolobartolo 1 year ago 64
@Manolobartolo I think he was saying that if a show like Sex and The City managed to get 2 movies (1 was stupid, 2 is insane) than an amazing show like The Sopranos should have at least gotten a movie.
bristow8411 1 year ago
@Manolobartolo the only thing they have in common is being aired on hbo. that's it haha!
Motherfuckeronerrrrr 9 months ago
@Manolobartolo U Tosser, he was pointing out that both SATC and sopranos were made by HBO and there's SATC movies so why not sopranos, u div.

Thanks forposting.
nuandaea 1 year ago 5
