Between this and the Goliath Cam video, I'd say this guy's feel is questionable at best.

Not going to form an opinion of this drummer from a single, camera-miced video clip, but I'll say this: I think Jon Theodore fit this band better than Pridgen ever could have. I was frequently annoyed at Thomas' (imo) overplaying in a live setting, and I'm hoping this drummer is more tasteful. Pridgen should stick to playing music that is more rhythmically wide open so he can go nuts all day without taking away from the other parts

It`s got kind of a drum and bass vibe. I`ve heard Omar is a big fan of Venetian Snares. Could come out with something a little more in that vein next.

Pridgen is not the Mars Volta. He was just a part of it.

Dave Elich is as good as Pridgen if not even better....all you pepole seem to have discovered TMV since Bedlam In Goliath. But Frances The Mute and Amputechture, where far greater than Bedlam.

Where is John Theodore? would be the better question...

But Dave Elich is like John Theodore.

Pridgen had no sesibility for letting the music breathe.

@NoGoats been following these guys since deloused. To me it seems like pridgen and john had a flow that went with the band. this guysounds more like a session drummer. I'm sure this guy has great personality on drums but it doesn't seem to be meshing quite right with these guys. but hey I can only hear through my ears.

you guys have an interesting definition of the term "good drummer"- pridgen was a technical monster but he seemed to have a tough time playing for the song (at least on bedlam- i was pretty impressed with how tasteful he played on octahedron). but i don't see how you see and listen to this guy play and not think he's good. he's got energy, he's solid, his fills are actually somewhat musical instead of just gospel chop bullsh*t all the time... what's not to like?

I love how Cedric can still hit those notes. Dave Elitch feels so fucking stiff though....Pridgen played with more feeling. It was like organic drumming.

compared to the clip on youtube of TMV at the Nisan Live sets show...where Pridgen was all over it, this performance is lame. Even the bass player don't give a fuck, standing there propped up wondering where Pridgen went. What a great shame for this band to take such a big step backwards. Clearly this is a flat performance. Whatever the reason for Pridgen being sacked he's left a gaping hole in TMV.

I found Pridgen's performance in the Nissan sets rather lousy (i.e. Tetragrammaton) but on T in the Park09 he's utterly flawless.

You're right; something was bothering them during this gig but I loved the set list and Cedric's performance was breathtaking.

i think thomas pridgen had a quite bad feeling. i remember how he plays cygnus, compared to jon theodore, it was filled with unnecessary fast chop attacks, which has nothing to do with feeling.

this guy, on the other hand, plays the exact notes of jon theodore's, which is a true thing to do on his account.

I saw them a couple days later in ghent for the 5th time and that show was the best mars volta show i've ever seen !!! Elitch maybe miss the coolness and the charisma of pridgen and theodore but he has a very tight groove in his body and is a good drummer ! give him a chance!!!

i think the new drummer is on piont. never heard of him before but i checked out some vids of him drumming and he has a very similar gospel chop chops style that pridgen has. and i doubt pridgen leaving is the reason they're not jumping around much. they're probly not in the mood to be doing all that shit at this particular performance which i can relate to for sure. this band will be dope no matter whos on the throne.

i disagree i saw the volta love with pridgen and they were otherwordly we all know pridgen has got insane chops but i always thought he didnt have the best feel and didnt incorporate as well as theodore did. but live he took everything into his own pushing the band through loud and soft alike. i havent seen much of this elitch kid but he seems acceptable but not better than pridgen he seems to playing the same stuff only with weaker chops maybe an album from him will change my opinion
