  • Hey, great lessons. What kind of strat is that?

  • @flyhi94: It's a 2003 Custom Shop Strat (1960s version) with Kinman Woodstock pickups.

  • Sounds nice!

  • Great effort in covering U2 sounds and sharing it to everybody. I know how hard it is for you to tweak each delay, color, eq, etc. of each song that you make. People like you make this world a better place. You have such GREAT TONE! Thanks for sharing the patches! Keep on going mate!

  • Wow man that is excellent, I did a cover of this song but it was with a Line6 POD :( I GOT to get a Axe FX, its so pro..:)

  • I think Edge use more repeats than you in this tutorial

  • @CharlyHH77 :

Yes, on the BBC video there are many more. But I've had others argue it's only one or two repeats. I prefer more than less, but you are playing on top of the delay for the main riff and it's difficult to hear exactly how many are there. Two main repeats sounds very similar to 5 or 6 repeats. Given that you are playing 8th notes, there is no way you are going to hear the 6th repeat from a previous note. Each repeat decreases exponentially in volume.

  • @kdelplancke:

Well, I can't argue with that! Thx for your comments.

  • Really love your tutorials - keep it up - you R-o-c-k- k !!!!

  • Edge should get some royalty or get's some endorsement from Axe FX :D

It nails every single U2 sound..

  • I bet the new update from fractal is going to bring this so much closer than it already is! Its really done incredible for amps like the ac30 to the point were it is nearly indistinguishable, lots of chime lots of love from U2 fans. Let me know when you try it I want to hear what you think

  • nice job!

  • Why can't you write your own music?

  • Good question. Always thought I didn't have the talent for it, but as I learn more from doing these tutorials, I am starting to come up with some ideas. Someday I will try. Thank you.

  • Great patch! but edge got it a bit more sharp sounding which on axe fx it sounds more round.

  • I agree with you. I will do this clip again with a real AC-30 at some point.

  • if you listen, that's due more than anything to the fact that edge is recording via a camera so you can hear his picking and this guy is recording direct from the axe-fx so you can't hear him picking in the room

  • What? I cant agree with you its different sound mate.

Its simply different set up thats why it sounds different camera just records and can make sound blury not opposite way imo.

  • I actually think you are very close to the sound with the Axe FX, but the way you are picking it is creating the biggest difference.

  • In your Axe patch, is the sound slightly overdriven somehow? Because when I play it through and AC30 with a SDD2000 delay, it doesn't sound as "crunchy". Just seeing what it "is" you do to get that sound, as well as the slight crunch in Bad. BTW, your tone is dead-on with the Slane version...

  • Thx for the feedback. Great question. In the Axe amp model, I have the master volume up very high (7.8) and the preamp drive up around 4. So I have it modeled such that the amp is just on the edge of breaking into some drive. I have not used a drive pedal. Try bringing your preamp volume up on the AC30 with the master up as loud as you can in your environment. But you don't want too much drive either or it gets too gritty/muddled.

  • The only thing I would add is a tiny bit of short reflection room reverb... that's why I think The Edge's tone "breathes" a bit more.

  • great!! will try the patch tonight! thanks man!!

  • This patch is gonna be my holy book, thamks michael

  • Thank you! When I record, I lose a little brightness. The Slane version is a little brighter than the BBC video, but that could be many factors. I think I need just a little more "brightness" across the mids and I'm all set. I spent at least 10 hours working on this one preset believe it or not. I just posted the preset in the file section of the U2_Guitar_Tutorial group on Yahoo. You can use the base amp/EQ/Cab model for many U2 songs.

  • Great Michael, spot on. Appreciate your hard work.

  • This is the most dead-on tone I have heard with the streets intro. Incredible!!
