@jordanaus75 An official name of "Irish" is actually "Gaelic". The language you're thinking of is termed "Scottish Gaelic". Normally, when people say "Gaelic" they mean Irish, not Scottish Gaelic.
We don't go around saying "I have a friend who speaks Français, but I've always wanted to learn Deutsch."
We also don't say "My brother just got back from Warszawa, Polska."
When speaking English, one should use the English terms for things. In other words, fuck you, Ivory Coast. Who are you to make other peoples exclusively say Côte d'Ivoire? It's called pretentiousness, and it's not wanted.
@BirdValiant Yeah well "Irish" is short for "Irish Gaelic" but you're right in English you'd simply call it "Irish" most commonly. In the Basque Country, they insist you don't called Basque as it is in English but "Euskera" as it's called in Basque! So pretentious! If a Basque person went around speaking English saying they speak fucking "euskera" people would be like WTF?
@whiked2112 In Ireland the language is called Irish. Irish in Irish is called Gaeilge not Gaelic. Also 'as Gaelic' means in Irish, so the video is called South Park in in Irish.
gaelic is scottish or football, the language is as gaeilge or irish, THAT GRINDS MY GEARS

Gaelic = Language family which includes: Irish, Scottish and Manx.
Germanic = Language family which includes: English, German, Dutch, Norwegian etc.
We Irish do not call English "Germanic" so we would appreciate it if you do not call Irish "Gaelic". :)
Gaeilge = Irish term meaning "Irish Language"
Bhí siad millteanach greannmhar. :D No Bearla!

I clicked on this thinking it was Gaelic, not Irish. Title of this clip should be South Park in Irish or South Park as Gaeilge.

whiked2112 1 year ago
@whiked2112 It should be called simply "Irish."
Similarly, one should say "Persian," not "Farsi."
We don't go around saying "I have a friend who speaks Français, but I've always wanted to learn Deutsch."
We also don't say "My brother just got back from Warszawa, Polska."
