I just bought this laptop recently and am very disappointed with its performance. Very annoying! First it was the Power button, second was Hard disk, third was Heatsink fan and now its LCD Screen vertical lines...hate this make! will never suggest anybody to buy such a crap!!!!

I have one and my sister has one, we bought them at the same time. It's a great laptop for about 3 months, and after than...slows down dramatically. I download movies etc, so i thought it was that, but talked to my sister, who uses hers strickly for school work, maybe chatting, and her's slowed down aswell, and she's complaining. The left arrow on the direction pad just came off...it's slowly breaking down. Disappointed, never liked HP.

i can hardly see any of the keys, what a crappy design flaw ! it's terrible. although the keyboard in this review seems black ? whats up with that ?

got dv3z and the keyboard is bronze and it SUCKS, but if ur laptop comes with the back light is a solution fn + space bar , if not, them u r in trouble. overall this is a beauty laptop but with to many flaws like sound (poor) keyboard (horrible) noise fan (horrendous) overheated, so on...gonna sell this and buy a hpdv3t

got a one of the new dv3 models (with an intel processor) it is so cool runs great and the battery life is great  (considering you shut of the wifi and other background programs) I'd recommend it to anyone

I consider 14.1' to be the best compromise between portability and screen size, but 13.3' isn't so much smaller that it's unbearable.

You also have to take resolution into account: is the resolution so high that text will be unreadable, or so low that it's insufficient for video viewing, etc?

I went to several stores and fiddled with both screen sizes. Hands-on testing is my suggestion. Good luck!

Yes, most monitors have a VGA cable. Most flat panel TVs have an HDMI cable. Some monitors/displays use a DVI connector. In that case you'd need a DVI to VGA or HDMI adapter. I've used the dv3 with my 25.5-inch monitor just fine.

I'm fine with it. It has an HDMI and VGA out if you want to hook it up to a big screen. It's much thinner/lighter than the 14-inch notebooks in its price range.

It does not come with IEEE 1394- you can use the express card expansion slot to add an IEEE 1394 connection to a dv3- buy it from a 3rd party such as Belikn.

Do the DV3Z series models differ from the DV3-1075CA? I've seen this at Best Buy in Canada and it doesn't list the finger print security feature as well as the 320gb hard drive... Also I think it was only a 1.83GHZ processor.

Just purchased this laptop yesterday and I must say featurewise I'm very impressed. However, the cooling fan runs consistently and is very audible on this laptop so it heats up pretty quickly even when I'm not running any applications on screen. Did you notice the fan was a bit louder then normal or maybe mine is just defective in some way? Thank you.

I'm not sure. Typically roles out notebooks in one color. Some models get several color treatments or special editions as time goes on. Other models get stuck with one color for their entire lives though. HP's been more open to producing more color options lately.

ha that guy was cute. maybe i'll get this laptop.. i've been searching all day. the sony vaio p caught my eye but wouldnt prove functional. then i really liked the sony cs. but now i'm seeing that this one has the backlit keys which i really liked. dell studio has it but i don't want the dell studio. ha i'm rambling. any advice?

I'm using a dv3z and really like it so far. The best thing you can do is go try out a Sony CS at Best Buy or Sony Style store. The dv3z is a pretty good value and is extremely thin/light given the price point. Sony also builds nice notebooks, but they're generally priced higher and accessories cost a lot more. Backlit keyboard is reallllly nice.

i know and the hp also has the fingerprint security thing.. which the dell studio had as well and sony cs didn't. i think i might just go ahead and order the hp dv3z. aside from the stuff that matters - i reallly like the bronze color. :)

I'll try and get a review up of it soon. Make sure your priority is portability. It's thin and light, but you can get more power for your money w/the dv4. Of course the dv4 is much heavier/thicker.

That new notebook that HP made is awesome! It's very similar to the Hp dv3510nr which sells at Best Buy, but this one is a little better and it's cheaper in some ways. So in other words, I think I'm going to get this one. :-)

Yeah, when I looked at the dv2, which isn't out yet, I though that it looked pretty cool and I think I'd rather get that instead because it's a little smaller and lighter than the dv3, it's so small they had to make an external drive for it which I won't complain about. And also because it will be cheaper than the dv3 when it comes out.

P.S.: Do you know when the dv2 is coming out...?
