Very nice, I believe Beethoven's publicist tended to invent names and titles for some of his music. Moonlight Sonata was never named as such by the 'composer' and I suspect 'Fur Elise' (For Elise) was probably subject to the same.
Although Beethoven's genius is not in dispute I believe socially he was a bit of a conceited dullard and actually had few true friends and never married, and of course becoming profoundly deaf did not help!
Yeah, I think Beethoven called the moonlight sonata "quasi fantasia", or something to that effect. The Elise dedication is supposed to be authentic, although the spelling is in doubt. Many titles of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin, and others were added by publishers and pundits. or lyricists, as in Tchaikovsky's 4th....
