  • Ahhh by Richard Carpenter, also responcible for Robin of Sherwood... I loved this as a kid, and Dark Towers

  • i wish i could go back to being a kid again, everything seemed so much easier then

  • Isn't that space station model the Federation Security HQ from Blake's 7?

  • Love it !!!!

  • were did those simple times go my lord can i go bdack

  • OMG! timewarp television for real! This used to leave me and my infant school class mates spellbound in the early 70's. I was really into sci-fi and astronomy at the time. Does anyone remember the fight scene where the bad alien fights with the boy from space's dad? (at least I think it was his dad).

  • Watched this when i was 7 or 8 in school. I had to sleep in my sisters room when I had watched this i too scared to sleep alone incase the Thin Man got me!!!. Chilling, dark and creepy. Even today.

  • Derek Griffiths was my first musical influence. I had no idea he did this theme though. I just remember loving the music from it.

  • Listen to the voice of Voltar

  • All the innocence of Megaman... all the early-80's grandeur of Gary Numan...this clip brings tears to my eyes. And only partially because I'm currently smoking crack.

  • aww i miss watchin this. memories r floodin bck in for me :D

  • if anyone is interested i have the this look and read on dvd and others in the series if interested email me at

  • good ol Derreck Griffiths,

  • @fabios66 Along with Brian Cant, another much loved children's TV character.

  • Oddly depressing lyrics

  • @henryyydarkkk they certainly are. Very melancholy.

  • This was first shown in 1970 it was RE RELEASED in 1980, just to be sure!

  • Guess we're all of a similar age here :) Loved this as a kid.. This and Dark Towers.. The whole Dark towers series is on here.. watched it all. Even though the acting is terrible and it's for kids I still absolutely loved it. THIS I'd love to see the whole series of too. Nostalgia Willo the wisp The telebugs Round the twist Round the bend Button moon The moomins (The freaky one) Why don't you (During holidays) Bananaman Worzel Gummage Rentaghost Etc My god I miss those days.
  • Oh yes, I have it now :) Funny thing, I could remember most of it!

  • I will have the whole series on DVD early next week :) I will have shivers down my spine when watching it

  • Really??? Where did you get it from? I'd love to see it all again. It made such a vivid impression on me. It was such a great story. Bloody scary in parts though - that nasty man in the blue jump suit and dodgy hat coming out of the woods with his gun...

  • Not get it till around Tuesday. I didnt know but it was re run on one of the CBBC channels a couple of years ago. the guy I am getting it off recorded the whole series to DVD :)

  • That was a good idea!!!! Do you think he could make more copies? How much is he charging? Enjoy watching it!

  • WOW, I used to absolutely LOVE this programme at school, it was my highlight of the week, I never shit myself like some of you have mentioned. I also remember 'Sky Hunter' and 'The Kings Dragon' but the Boy From Space was my favourite. I wish they'd show these again as classics, even if we just laugh at them. I think I tried to make one of those alien guns so I could make my brother disappear. LOL.

  • you know it's funny when people have said that they use to shit themselves watching this as I thought i was the only one!! I can still remember how scared I used to be watching this

  • this was recently shown on the bbc lol

  • omg i used to shit myself watching this at school. lol think they did on purp to keep us quiet

  • It was scary stuff-I watched it around1972 (I was about 8) at juniour school-never understand why we got to watch it. It left me with nightmares

  • this scared the shit out of me at primary school!

  • Wow. That sent a shiver up my spine. I havent seen it since I was in Primary school. I would love to see the whole think. Is it available anywhere?

  • Hey, I also would love to see the whole thing again, such good memories of school when this was out. If you find out let me know and i'll do the same. I've emailed the BBC to see what they know, if anything.

  • @eddbrown4 Let ust know what happens mate. I would love to get hold of it

  • this was the kids version of the man who fell to earth !!

  • BTW, the clip here looks pretty good quality, do you have any more of it you could post, please? :)

  • Wow, BBC SFX at their best! The hub from a buggy wheel dangled in front of a spacefield!

  • Aaaa-wonderful memories. Thanks 4 postin it

  • This was not made in 1980, it was originally shown in the early 70's.

However I saw it for the first time around 1979/80, best schools TV programme ever! albeit quite scary in places, but that was half the excitement!!

  • It was made in the 1970's but they brought it back in the early 80's. It was revised. Clever trickery making Peep Peep speak eh?

  • One of the best programmes ever made. It enabled teachers like me to leave a class in front of Wordy et al, open-mouthed, while I had a fag in the playground. God bless Derrick Griffiths.

  • @alandavid48 haha! We'd never get away with doing that now though! I was one of those little blighters sitting there open-gobbed; cross-legged in the gym-hall; transfixed by this... bet they don't make schools' educational programmes as good as this anymore though.

  • Look And Read had a story out only a couple of years ago where they paired footage from one of the stories from the late '70s with modern-day stuff. They even used the same three child actors (by now grown-up) once again playing the same parts. Does anyone remember what I mean? Think the story might have been Geordie Racer, but not sure. There were two guys (one black, one white) and a woman. I was really impressed and a bit moved that they had the same actors now grown up! :)

  • The story you're referring to was called "SKY HUNTER", and the version with the adults is on here (somewhere!)

  • Thanks!! I'll have a look for it. :)

  • Saw this series way back in the early 70,s before I started school . And I started in 1974 . But never watched it at school . My dump of a primery school had no taste in programs . What happened was after a few years they used the same story again , but with a revamped program . When I saw it the first time round a different presenter , and wordy was not in it then . Are times I could do with one of those guns that the thin man had to melt those cars with

  • we used to be taken into the school music room to watch look and read, the boy from space is one i always remember as i was terrified,my sister used to chase me around pretending to be the horrible white skinny man........

  • This was when they cared what kids watch nowadays they shunt it all to the CBBC channel which shows crappy cheap shows mixed with US shows. What happend to the pure british shows dammit!! they cancelled grange hill for crisakes GRANGE HILL!!!! it was the final nail int he coffin for UK kids tv imo.

  • FYI - this was originally shown in 1971 and repeated so many times - i saw it circa 1978. Great serial along with Dark Towers and Fairground

  • 90's? Shit I'm pretty sure this was kicking around mid 70's.

  • I was waiting to watch that, thanks alot mate.

  • I wonder whar they're up to now ??? still gives me goosebumps even now

  • Love it, takes me back to the 70's.

  • lol remember being made to sit in the class room and the teacher rolling a tv out with a video on a tall stand and being made to watch this in the early 80s lol

  • Wow... this takes me back. They showed us this in primary school in the 90s. It's probably the reason I'm a writer now.

Think I have the whole thing on vhs somewhere......

  • You really have the whole thing? WOW, that would be amazing to watch again, I'd probably cry as it was such a good time for me at school. My best days.
