@Enobeano First, they were called Helots. Second, they were like serfs or peasants, they were simple minded people who worked for Lords and Ladies. Clearly there were a lot of smarter people in Greece, which is actually quite true considering that Greece is home to MANY great historians and the like...

Also they didn't have to kill a Helot to prove they were ruthless enough for battle. They were checked when born for any problems, then trained from early years who to fight.

Apparently along with the 300 Spartans were god-knows how many helots with them. Two men were sent back to Sparta with eye injuries (Explaining the guy narrating in 300) but one of them ordered his helot to lead him back into battle, where he went in a frenzy XD

I can't remember the name for it in humans but the Nazi's also did this to create "super-soliders", although they only got a few generations of it... The Spartans had gone through many more.
