So we had to give our nice toys to the Marines who gave us N's out of fucking mothballs, AERO-1 radars with tubes. Worse you know (ctd)

The "black box" in the plane (all planes have them) didn't have the effects of a plane crash, instead an explosion. The hole in the pentagon not nearly large enough to show that a massive 747 had hit it. The height of the pentagon is not too high so a terrorist that practiced with small engined planes would have had a hell of a job to hit a target low and fast.

Here in Britian we call them poles on top of the building Lightning Conductors.they must be fitted to every tall building by Law.and as a result they take the impact of the Lightning Strike and divert the Electrical Energy along a safe path down the side of the building via conductors and into the general mass of the Earth.and thereby causing no damage to the Building.The energy generated by the Lightning is not as powerful as you would think.so it is easy to control its path to Earth.

Have you actually seen a photo of the pentagon ten minutes after it was hit? The hole is less than 20 feet across with no collapse. Yet the president stood in front of the building and claimed men in caves crashed a commercial jet into it. Don't let other people (especially the media) think for you. @batvette Ever hear of kinetic energy? the airplane was not going against the building, but against exterior columns (the facade), which due to the speed and size were knocked back into the impact point, where the plane, still semi-solid, was able to cut through tresses and sheet rock to damage or destroy the small number of interior columns placed near the elevator lobbies before particulate, bone fragments, fingers, etc. ejected out of the other side of the building.

@EdgemanLL2 No sir they were actually the S birds, clean as a whistle from NARF, with AWG-10A Westinghouse Radars. We had them for a year doing carquals and workups on the Coral Sea, but the trap speed of the S with the modified leading edges were 15 kts higher. Between us and VF-154 we scratched about 5 airframes including several mainmounts through the wing. So we had to give our nice toys to the Marines who gave us N's out of fucking mothballs, AERO-1 radars with tubes. Worse you know (ctd)

This transition happens just a couple months before cruise, what a nightmare, supposedly because MD was trying to milk the Phantom with Congress till the end. Rather than securing I spent nights wrenching with the powerplants and AMH shops to get those planes airworthy. But the S could turn on a fucking dime at a time when the Tomcat's envelope was restricted.

@batvette We never had Hangar queens. Our mechs knew how to fix them. Unlike AssLancers who (for reasons unknown) always used a lot more MIL-L-23699C than anyone else, and always walked around "funny" while laughing "Guess where I hid my torque wrench!"
Well, there was the persian excursion in 91, when (while in DBX) some drunk fuxer popped the canpoy on 106 and it flipped over the side.
Except for that, we kept them flying.

@EdgemanLL2 That's pretty funny. You do get hangar queens when you got 5000+ hour airframes and the aircrews go out and over-G them anyway. Some parts of the Navy I miss, others not. I have to say just thinking about going up to do maintenance during night ops still terrifies the fuck out of me years later, I don't know how but the only injury I ever got was falling down a stairway moving lockers at Millington! I still live in San Diego though, liked the weather.

You can pretend this isn't a common thing but if it wasn't the term hangar queen would not exist now would it?
Given the end of the Tomcat's years with premature stress cracks common, me thinks you're trolling.

(I also spent some TAD time with VF-302, a Miramar reserve squadron, for "fun" I requested to be sent to the line and get PQS for plane captain, they weren't flying enough to break the radars and the boredom was killing my 19 year old ass) But I love those Tomcats too, real nice plane.

Fact remains F-14's operated on restricted flight envelopes well through around '84 when they got their powerplant issues sorted out and compressor stall wasn't a looming issue. When we did war games against them and some of the AF squadrons our aircrews wore the phantom like an old shoe, were not afraid to toss them around at all.

The "black box" in the plane (all planes have them) didn't have the effects of a plane crash, instead an explosion. The hole in the pentagon not nearly large enough to show that a massive 747 had hit it. The height of the pentagon is not too high so a terrorist that practiced with small engined planes would have had a hell of a job to hit a target low and fast.
