I mean the tempo at which it is performed or sung is not crisp or forward moving it is Draggy. I thought concerts were also performances. There are staged versions and concerts versions of performances beside what does that have to do with my critique. The singing performance is draggy.
Performances come in many different denominations.
I find that the difference is maybe on the acting too. Voigt sang in this recording in a concert when she was heavier. Now she's thiner and it could reflect some difference, in the way that she is now reinventing the way she performs this aria. i saw her at the met and i remember she moved a lot when singing this in that production....
I find Voigt's voice much creamer and delightful singing this aria than Leontyne Price.
To my taste Price is better than Voigt, but that doesn't mean Voigt isn't wonderful as well. Her timbre isn't my favourite, because I find it a little on the heavy and drier side, but the way she sings is extremely exciting and passionate, especially in her Met performance, which I unfortunately only heard through the broadcast.
Thanks for posting this as a video responde to my video. She's in even better voice, indeed. However, I guess we all must consider the Met broadcasts always turn the singers' voices drier. In fact, in terms of timbre and vocal production, I think her 2007 performance is quite similar to this one, though slightly less easy. This recording captured the roundness of her voice much better. Brava!

I like the singing very much. But the performance is draggy. I like Price and the tempo there better.

Darlings, there is a NEW recording on its way with Fleming!
Lets discus THIS then.
My god, there is soooo much to say about this part...and the singers.
