Is this documentary suggesting that Producers are very keen to play "social engineers" and orchestrate class, gender, race, and sexual stereotypes to affect the public at large, they influence decisions on a series-level and plot-level? That's a pretty serious accusation of conspiracy.
@jrizos Consider the class backgrounds of most people involved in entertainment. I wouldn't see them as some sort of shadowy elite. That's not the point the movie was trying to make. To me, the point is that various stereotypes are used (whether intentionally or not) to promote the bottom line of the companies who control the media.
@FineWeAre There are so many things wrong with that statement. First of all, sex is completely natural and there is nothing wrong with it. Second, you're basically saying that all single mothers sleep around with everyone, which is not true at all, stereotyping won't get you anywhere.
@reprographiste I didn't say that there is anytime wrong with sex at all. It is natural and normal as long as you do it with your husband/wife. Yes they do sleep around how else would they get single?? Even if it a long term boyfriend and you get pregnant and he leaves you thats a mistake on your part for trying to act like a man.
Welfare is for leeches only!! There is no need for welfare the whole discrimination bs is getting old, because one can achieve anything black, white or yellow, if people would just take their skills and use them to improve there lives. The fact is people on welfare get comfortable they get free food (food stamps), subsidized housing everything and most are still able to afford ipods, tv's.
@FineWeAre So children of the bottom of the working class don't deserve to eat? Welfare is not just for leeches, it helps many working people in America, and without it many would go hungry.
@reprographiste That is there fault for not getting the education, the job to support a family. A 15 year old minority that gets pregnant because she has no other brains but to sleep with her boyfriend does not deserve welfare.
@thebrokentree1 I can see where you're coming from: we (working class people in North America) live in an inauthentic society where we're regularly lied to by officials and corporate marketers, but call me naive, I think sometime real events happen without any "elite" pulling the strings behind them. I think these things happen *because* these elite pull the strings too much in the economy, state, etc. too much.
@thebrokentree1 There are many ways that we live out social class: culturally, socially, economically, politically, physiologically (diet and body-shape), and any one of those can cause the others to change. I think politicians in your country are sensing your strata's discontent and inability to keep up the happy middle class narrative. People might conform to cultural norms of behaviour, but feel tension and be open to change given an opening.
@thebrokentree1 The political economy of why the NATO countries want oil in the middle east is important, but I don't think there's really decisive evidence, either way, about the bombings being done by the US government. There is legitimate anger in the world at what our countries are unleashing in order to keep alive the illusion that we can all live a middle class lifestyle. In order to prevent war and terrorism, we need to recognize class conflict.
@thebrokentree1 Not that your society really wants you to be employed any way. It's more profitable to not hire people, taking a minor hit through lost production, if when people do work they feel the heat and submit to harder conditions, lower pay etc. Working people are a lot more intelligent and informed than many people assume, while I've met some really complacent people in university who just got there because their parents could pay their way.
@thebrokentree1 Do you wonder why most people working under this system fall so easily into pre-arranged roles? Sports watcher, drunken idiot, fool who gets high all the time, etc. Just look at the representations of what it's possible to be in the mass media. We need a culture that helps people be aware of other options and supports positive personal development within society.
Excellent documentary, enough to enrage any thinking working class person who feels alienated in this culture of worthlessness and consumerism mixed with self degradation. I now feel truly offended by media elites & it is even more obvious that the people who run this country hate the working poor. It also explains how right wing politicians come up with their delusional fallacies. I think the working/poor are smarter than the elites, most are just misinformed and marginalized.
Enjoy with an ice-cold Fresca.

@jrizos It's as simple as advertisers not wanting their products associated with the viewer's station, but the viewer's aspirations.

@thebrokentree1 You can redefine what it means to be one of "them." I work for a low wage and I don't do any of those things.
