  • your chicken is not crazy, this is what they do and it is so cute. does she find worms sometimes. Loved the video. Their poop is very good for your garden too.

  • Aww... she's sooo cute! Great video!

  • What a beautiful chicken! I'm glad that you've decided to look toward getting eggs from your own backyard chickens - the way layer hens are treated commercially is a disgrace.

  • Out of all the colors I have for my chickens- the white feathered chickens love to take the most dust baths. So after having them for two or three years- they now look yellow and their feathers are stained by the dirt! But I was told that was a sign for a healthy chicken so I am happy! Glad to see your guy likes to dust bath!

  • u should name them beakfast lunch and dinner

  • get a life

  • Ah, she looks just like my black rock Esmee, who had her first dustbath today :)

  • Aww! That little guy is just having a dust bath! They do that to protect their feathers from insects like mites. Usually, a chickentaking a dust bath also mean it's quite comfortable with its surroundings and quite content.

  • They take baths like that. My chicken does the exact same thing! CUte! I also video taped it. ^_^

  • Pretty cute!

  • Dirty! MY chickens love to dust bath, but never in mud. eww. :P

  • That is how they clean themselves! Pretty cute!

  • Remember to buy chickens their sea shell meal to help them get their calcium for egg production and the grits for their gullet to 'chew' their food....

  • My chicken (a Japanese bantam) does that lol

  • i go to the beach and collect old oyster shells.these shells, crushed, assist with the production of the eggshell and its completely natural.left over crab and lobster also works.hey, who said chickens never went to the beach!!! good video and good way of exchanging info.

  • that chicken looks as if its laying eggs. nests are most likely to be in mud and rocky areas becuase the eggs blend in with the pebbles so a harmful animal does not eat them. nice video!

  • my chickens do that all the time at first i was concerned then i found out they like dusting them selves its like a dirt bath lol

  • where did u get ur chicks

  • I got them 6 months old, and from a local farm !

    :)

  • dust baths are fun

  • I have always wanted a pet chook but it costs too much

  • "Invisible dust baths" are even funnier.

If you have any folds in your pants or shirt while keeping it in your lap it will do the exact same thing for no reason other than instinct.

Can't wait for this winter to piss off so I can let my little princess into the garden lol.

  • your chickens r so pretty come see the video of my chickens also they do that to kill any bugs they may have on them too :D voted 5 stars :D

  • all chickens do this on a hot day they dig in dirt to stay cooler

  • i sooo want a chicken, i cant eat eggs, i have high cholestrol.

  • I'm no doctor, but you are what you eat and battery chickens fed corn or grain are not natural. My chickens eat their natural diet, grass (which also contains B17 which stops cancer, which is why people have so much cancer now as farm animals rarely get fed grass, which is their natural food) & bugs, worms, snails, slugs etc...

  • Eggs from chickens eating their natural food, grass, bugs etc, will mean eggs which have proper minerals & won't do you harm like chickens fed artificial junk, or unnatural food stuffs. grains are not their natural food etc.

They say eggs from free range chickens lower bad cholesterol, so it's very good for us all ! The FDA/drugs companies don't like us knowing this, so they can sell junk drugs to us instead of sorting the Food standards out.

  • i could seriously spend all day with a chicken...they are so entertaining its unbelievable

  • Rawwrr! Evil Mud >:) This video is ace ^-^

  • hey thanks for this ! :)

hey you have a similar nickname to me !!!!

  • i love it when my chickens do that. one time 5 of them were all in a row taking a bath. you can dust them with food grade DE to help keep them free of bugs. great video. dont you love having chickens?? are they laying yet? My chickens lay the tastiest eggs.

  • I love having chickens, but lately haven't been playing with them as it's been so cold here and my hands turn numb and well i hope it get warmer soon...

  • I love them and the eggs are so good, but because they are fed on grass, grass contains vitamin B17 which prevents cancer, aswell as loads of omega 3 and healthy cholesterol which fights bad cholesterol, eggs from grass fed chickens are like a medicine for the body and so can be eaten everyday, they say unlike grain fed artificially rearer chickens. Also keeping them is cruelty free :)

  • you can also get this chicken stuff too put in there pen so it get rid off ticks and fleas

from a pet shop make sure you close of the area you inserted the powder!

  • cheers dude, they love my flower bed i guess, mind you they haven't fleas as I checked them over, maybe they also do this to keep their feathers clean ! who knows, will check but i tend to like them to live completely natural free of any bought things, so they eat bugs slugs and grass only. Will check that stuff out.

  • chickens dont like herbs so get them!theyll leave them alone and that it isnt mud wrestling it like us have bath in water if they have a bath in water theyll drowned and die so if u have a pond or anything like pool dont get chickens unless u build there pen first and keep them in!so they have mud baths lol

  • thanks for this !

  • uh... mud wrestling???

  • thats called a dirt bath and chickens do that to get rid of lice ticks that are on them...i know this coz i got my own pet chickenS!

  • I have some chickens that look like that. I crossed a bantam and a orpidgion. :]

  • y wuld u cross one of the largest chicken with one of da smallest chickens? Lol, but how does it look and how cute is it?

  • looks like the one in the video. Yhe chicks are cute!

  • it's dust bathing - keeps the feathers in good condition. its great to watch when you're very bored!!

  • She looks very happy. Chickens make wonderful pets and it's very relaxing to watch them I have 13 of them. The rooster I could do without. Wakes me up at 4:15 in the morning.

  • he he ! I guess you should maybe sell the rooster then ! I am not allowed one, as they make too much noise ! Chickens are cute though, all have such a different character !!!!

  • hmm, maybe it's just happy with it's life...unlike those poor abused kfc chickens :(

  • I agree, i think everyone should keep a few chickens if they have a yard, they eat grass, slugs, and other pests, and make amazing tatsy natural eggs ! They will eat any vegetable leftovers like cut off from lettuc which they love, and get some rice, as they love it, don't give them much, a handful a day for a treat, and if you don't have much grass, you can get them some corn. Grass fed is best though as it's natural and best...

  • Not good if you have a garden though, they'll peck up all the grass and destroy the flower beds.

  • THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL

  • I have a pet 4 pet chickens like that.. i love chicken. ill post a vid of mine soon.

  • cool, just got hold of 8 fertilised eggs for my incubator, so will have fun hatching them !!!

  • Please help!!! i just got the cutest sweetest buff orpington bantam chick! So I need help with the name! any suggestions?

  • Call it 'fluffypoopychick'

  • thanks for that ! they are cute creatures and people forget that chickens came from the Asian and South American jungles 3000 years ago, which explains their exotic plumage and large size, and if they had a curved beak and no crest, they would look abit like an eagle !

  • Actually, the original chickens were more like pheasants in appearance than the colorful birds that we know.

You can still buy them, they're called Jungle Fowl.

It wasn't until they were domesticated and bred for various purposes that their plumage became so exotic.

and yeah, I've had a few that looked like eagles to me. Especially when their beaks need trimming!

  • No need to worry, she's only dust bathing.

Chickens do that from time to time, usually on hotter days.

Do you have any sandy or dirt covered areas? That would be better for her to roll in than the rocks.

the tiny particles help remove parasites and clean the feathers, plus it just seems to feel good!

They'll make holes in your landscaping that way though, so be prepared! :)

  • They are kind of tropical birds. I love them, they each have their own funny character, and are intelligent unlike what people say, because mine eat natural food and are free, so they learn and develop their minds....nutrition and things to do make them (and us!) healthy and wise !
