1:00 Many of these little children lost their parents altogether and ended up being shipped overseas to Canada and Australia. Some were lucky, but most were knowingly sent as farm labourers.... they were often segregated from the communities, lived in out sheds, or barns, not sent to school, in some cases sexually abused, etc.. Home children, Bernardo homes.... disgusting...
@suelizjohnson1:00 Actually shipping orphaned children to the "colonies" had been going on for years... To read about the fictionalised fuzzy wuzzy account of one of these children see "Anne of Green Gables". Anne Shirley DEFINATELY was one of the lucky ones!
3:05 - Pardon me, old boy, but what exactly are you droning on about? GREY POUPON? Good Heavens, Mumbly-Peg! You rather sound LIKE...A...SHEET! Ha ha ha ha! Jovial, old boy! Jovial! XD
My parents were married that same year an d were born in 1913 & 1918 - The great depression was no picnic here in America either. But fortunately (for me) my dad could not serve... my brother was born in 1944 and I, in 1958.
Yes, we are the fortunate ones. We had no indoor plumbing until we moved to town in 1963. I think that my brother is mad that I grew up with running water and no out house!
My father was shot down(KIA)over Germany in'41,and I married a German girl and love Germany and its people. This magnificent series reminds us of what can happen to good people with bad leadership.(a theme with great relevance today!)Thx for posting this masterpiece.
FYI - Netflix/Blockbuster have the entire 26 hour series. Also most good library systems have it on VHS or DVD. If they do not, ask them and they will buy it!
FYI - THE BEST way to see if you want to buy the whole series is to rent them from Netflix/blockbuster. Netflix has the entire series, and with a cheap one month membership - or even free trial, you can see them all! Most good library systems also have the full 26 hour series on VHS or DVD & "Making of" DVD. If not, ask them to get it!

My grandgrandfather was killed in 1939 defence. Now I go out for a beer with my German friends. It is amazing how tides turn.
