A dialect is a variations of another language, Sicilian existed before italian was even widespread outside tuscany (and was called Volgare Toscano). They were all indeed still dialects of Latin.

People loved the way she offered her voice not just to spread the Portuguese culture but also (and thats something unique in Amalia) the talent she had to retribute the love she got by singing the songs sung in the countryside and the streets of the popular districts of Naples, Palermo or Rome.

Significa "fiori". Nell'album "A una terra che amo, sono inserite diverse canzoni popolari italiane. Fra le altre "La bella Gigogin", un canto risorgimentale che risale a circa metà del 1800, al tempo delle guerre d'Indipendenza, e forse la più vecchia canzone popolare taliana "Canto delle lavandaie del Vomero" che si fa risalire addirittura al 16° secolo. Oltre a Ciuri ciuri c'è anche un'altra canzone siciliana "Vitti 'na crozza". Ma Amalia è grandissima, qualunque cosa canti...:)

This is a Sicilian traditional song. It is also Italian because Sicily is part of Italy. The language is Sicilian. Certainly one of the most lovely folk songs from Italy.
