aye yo man i just got a act nz1 hdss clutch today and i read some reviews about that clutch .. i need to know the truth have u had any problems with your clutch? ... get back at me asap .. ima install all my mods next month
@1100HondaCB I haven't had any issues. The only issue I had where it did not run properly was a cam position sensor which I replaced myself in less than 10 minutes.
@MSBx03 Flywheel weight is 13.8lbs I think. The pedal pressure was a little heavier than stock but not outrageous. The chatter was louder than stock, and even stock was pretty noisy lol
i have a stage 3 clutch too and have that same power, but i cant seem to have such great accel like yours..
would the tires also have something to do with this ? because i always seem to burnout.. its almost like if the grab is too strong for the wheels, and they end up just skidding, you think wider tires can work??
@gattler Tires are a big deal when it comes to traction. I have a pretty heavily modded Z as well running 265s in the rear and I have good traction launching around 2500-3000rpm...anything much higher than that and you'll get quite a bit of wheelspin, even from a stock Z. If you're running your stock tires, I would definitely recommend upgrading. I have Yokahama S-Drives that I really like and highly recommend. It's a great all weather tire with extremely good grip and great durability.
@sford01 id figured, yeah over that rpm level the wheels do start to skid, id thought about getting Nitto slicks, the rain and humid weather here is soo rare so its a fair advantage for me with those tires and safe :P
@gattler Just have to make sure you have sticky tires with good contact patch. I think I was running 255s in the rear which isn't all that wide but they were Falken Azeni RT-615s which are pretty sticky street tires.
@kixcherios The exhaust is stock, just had test pipes. I think the intake was a Popcharger at the time but I can't really remember since it was years ago. I'm running a K&N typhoon now.
@bseriest It was an ACT kit with 6 puck sprung hub. I'm not really sure what stage it was. I'm actually running a Competition Clutch Stage 2 right now.
That's hot! I'm getting an ACT flywheel and stage 1 clutch kit installed on my Z next week! I am excited to see how that baby flies after that install. After watching this, this makes me eager to get that on!
Looking to replace my clutch in my '04 350 w/ an ACT 6 puck kit. Just under 60k miles right now. Is it necessary to change out to the lighter flywheel (ACT) or would the resurfaced factory be ok? What difference would it make? New to this, so be easy guys :-)
So you're saying that it'll drive better, but no better performance? :D
You get slightly more torque (more the lower the gear) with a lighter rotating assembly. You won't get a shift in the torque curve, just an increase proportional to the total gear ratio.
hey i was wondering how much did u pay for the parts? n how much was labor for installing them? n do u need to get a new clutch line?? i was thinkin bout the same setup for my z but i want to make sure before i get it. thanks
Paid about 900 for parts and 200 on install but that's a hookup on labor and parts. Normally it would be over 1k for parts and ~500 for labor.
I didn't change the clutch line. My buddy had issues with his clutch fluid boiling, we changed his fluid with Motul and he didn't have a problem afterward.
At the time it had full bolt-ons but I had to bring everything back to stock for a free brand new motor. It's a 2003 with about 126k miles and holding up well. Having a new motor is just as good.
Definitely one of my favorite mods I'd done so far.
what kind of brand new motor do they give you? is it the regular vq35de thats in your car or do they have to give you an HR motor since they dont make the DE motors for the 350z anymore?
I don't have take off problems so I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. The road that I launched on was possibly the worst run to get a good launch off of. My flywheel/clutch was replaced due to high mileage... I could have paid $1000 for a stock flywheel or $400 for the ACT.
definitely some fast shifts. nice rev though. i'm looking at putting either a lighter flywheel or new exhaust to my RX8. neither mod will really make a difference. kinda sucks that mazda made the RX8 so well from the factory. not a lot of bolt potential at all. but nice Z anyway.
alrighty. do you know how much it'll cost for someone to install a flywheel? i don't have the tools or experience to do a swap. nice clutch btw. when i watched it the 2nd time it bites pretty hard. was that a tad bit of slipping at 4K or just my imagination?
Nope, definitely no slipping. This clutch bites going into 6th lol. I got a great deal on an install but most installs for a clutch and flywheel are around 400-600. May as well change the clutch if you change the flywheel IMO.
yeah makes sense, but between a year of college i took last year and just paying for my RX8 makes me flat broke at the end of the month almost. i never seem to make enough money. oh well leaves me LOTS of time to research which mod i want next lol
You'll love it dude. One of the best mods I've done to the Z. I don't have my sensors in right now because I'm borrowing wheels haha. I'm getting tired of seeing that stupid light.
I didn't redline the gears because I was trying to be careful holding the camera and try not to run off of the road which was a pretty horrible road at that lol
hey just wondering how much total did you spend on the whole set? and how much harder is the pedal comparing to the stock? i'm' really thinking getting one too... thanks
i use to have the act hdss and prolite flywheel on my lancer evo. and loved it. in my opinion the pedal was definately 3-4times much harder. but it was definately worth it. higher rpm launches ,smoother shifts. and no more burning clutch on those street battles. dblazin? anything you would add?

@siquey805 I ate up a set of NT05s on the Z already. I won't get another set until I'm not DD the Z anymore.

Looks like it revs like a beast; can you give a little description of the before and after?
Hardwyre 7 months ago
it was hard at first cause of how strong the grab is right?
xstr33tr4cerx 7 months ago
@xstr33tr4cerx It takes a litlte while to get used to taking off but once you get it down it's not that bad.
dblazian33 6 months ago
How was the pedal pressure after the install? What weight flywheel did you get and how is the chatter?

Clutchs dont improve preformance and lightweight flywheels dont but it will drive better and change torque curve placement.

mstring2009 2 years ago
your gear ratios just multply the torque in first few gears and alow more speed in the last two
jayguy173 2 years ago
I know what gears do. My point was that a lightened flywheel indeed will increase performance, especially in lower gears.

Sorry for the slow response, it's a great clutch. My friend just got an ACT setup for his EVO and loves it as well.

lol, it's been 7 months since i put down the first comment here.. now i'm finally getting one, can't wait to get it installed :D

lightweight flywheels dont make up for the price vs preformnce ratio that why i stick with factory and no take off probs

lol thtat jayguy has no idea what he is talking about.
he probably thinks all upgraded clutches are hard to launch with (fyi obviously not every aftermarket clutch is like a carbon triple disk)
sounds gooood.
what is that flashing light thing on your rpm needle (round part in center)? ive never seen that in my Z
0neTurbo 3 years ago
It's the light from the camera recording hehe. I won't worry about it much. Hopefully he won't tell me my coilovers don't make up for the price :D

bp240 3 years ago
Simple quick lift to shift. I don't powershift anymore.
dblazian33 3 years ago
what is power shifting?
dbsshadow 3 years ago
Powershifting is when you never let your foot off of the accel. pedal. Aka "no lift to shift"
dblazian33 3 years ago
hey just wondering how much total did you spend on the whole set? and how much harder is the pedal comparing to the stock? i'm' really thinking getting one too... thanks

I actually got a great deal, I paid about half of what it would cost installed :p
Depends on what year you have as far as pedal feel goes... to me it doesn't feel much harder than stock 03-04s.
dblazian33 3 years ago
i use to have the act hdss and prolite flywheel on my lancer evo. and loved it. in my opinion the pedal was definately 3-4times much harder. but it was definately worth it. higher rpm launches ,smoother shifts. and no more burning clutch on those street battles. dblazin? anything you would add?

Shifts were a lot smoother, even my roommate said the same after driving it. Pedal is a little stiffer but still worth every penny :D
