It's a shame that the detour knocks you out of experiencing one of the best parts of the parkway. The scenery is spectacular along that stretch and you also miss the climb up to Mt. Mitchell.
DP, Glad to see this one recently posted. Going through the tunnels and some of the scenic shots made for a great ride. Ive been wanting to do this for many years now. In the mid and late 90s, we used to stay in the Asheville area, and travel on the parkway via car. Never went past Spruce Pine going north. Glad to know that this is one of the best parts of the parkway.
Glad you enjoyed! Next time I head down that way (in September again, hopefully), I'm thinking about trucking the bike to the Asheville area, and starting my trip from there (if gas prices are still reasonable, that is). Maybe do the last 80 or so miles of the Parkway again, then head off to the Deal's Gap area.
In the mean time, I'll just continue poking around locally. The weather up here isn't exactly motorcycle friendly at the moment, but it'll get better. It always does!
i bet you couldn't resist going into those tunnels again :P amazing sound of the bike inside the tunnel, isn't it? :D is deals gap far from where you are? i guess you should definitely go for a ride there, i have heard a lot about it :D thanks for sharing geeza :P
Wish I had done an acceleration run through a few gears inside one of those tunnels. That would have sounded VERY cool. Can't believe I didn't think of it until just now. Nuts. Next time for sure!
Deal's Gap is only another 70 miles or so from Cherokee. If I had continued on down there, and spent some time riding the Dragon, it would have added another day onto my trip ... a day I didn't really have. I have ridden there before, though, and will be back some day. It's pretty awesome!
Nice sound in the tunnels! I love doing that.
Your camera did a good job changing light levels. I had one that used to "hunt" focus when coming out of tunnels (did some RR videos).

If the guys at Harley Davidson had any brains they'd give this guy a sponsorship to keep making videos like this.

Yeah, it was too bad I had to miss that part, but so it goes. That stretch is supposed to re-open later this spring. Must have been some rock slide!
