  • Keith Moon was sooooo cute in Barbara Ann !

  • 5:51 cymbals fail

  • @msmoontheloon yea damn striaght that was fucking adorable bby!!

  • Good vintage Who but tooo many face close-ups... would have liked to have seen from a fans perspective... But anything Who is good!!

  • 1:30 OH YEAAAH!

  • Me thinks the folks running the cameras didn't care for Keith much.

  • are those vintage marshalls I see there?

  • does anybody else think that it's super adorable how keith's cymbals fall down at the end and he's just like "uh shit" ?

  • uhuhuhuh

  • Simply beautiful, this is a piece of art....

  • im pretty sure keith moon is reeeeeeeeeally tweeking on some upers in this

  • This is just top.

  • 3:48 That tapping foot is forshadowing that he'll be using a second bass drum pretty soon.

  • Good point there.

  • @scartissue94

Didn't Moon use a hi-hat cymbals in the beginning before using two bass drums?

  • @scartissue94 Or that the purple hearts kicked in.

  • @superfuzzymomma That's a good point too.

  • @scartissue94

    Epic foreshadowing...

    lol good point though

  • We're off to Button Moon!. Birlliant and Raw..!

  • I just realized that he doesn't even have a hi-hat

  • @marazm1 I dont think he used them because he liked to use two base drums...

  • Keith ALWAYS makes me smile. :)

  • I know they did this in the studio for the Kids Are Alright movie; didn't realize they actually used to play it live..... Moonie on the vocals...... he was a big surf music fan .......

  • @beelzabubba

There's a recorded version on the obscure "Ready, Steady, Who" EP as well.

  • Oh my god I searched so long to find a video with the who doing barbara ann live!

Thank you soo much for posting!

Keith is just the best!!! <33333

  • Sounds like they took a line out off the board with none of the instruments miked.

  • WOUAHHHHH

l'accueil triomphal que leur a réservé la France !!!!

    coooooooolll

super rare en plus et hop ds mes favoris ..... xD

  • Mes frères me soutenaient que les who avaient débuté à Juvisy ! it's true

  • Keiths The King luv it when he sings barbera ann

  • Just like the broadcast of the Beatles Pari s concert in 1965, too many shots of the audience.

  • 5:53 yeah!!!!

  • Fantastique!

    Merci.

  • What a difference between Beach Boys' Barbara Ann and The Who's My generation.

  • keith liked the beach music , beach boys

  • @lamestamiliano Keith really loved surf rock and the mastery of the beach boys and beatles pop and rock music overall.

  • Rare document celui-ci , je ne le Connaissez Pas ..Very Good

  • I love the Who and adore Keith, RIP. This vid is weird as some of you have mentioned. Whoever the clueless idiot who said wannabe punks, please kill yourself. This unfortunately may be the best vocals I have heard from Moon. Thats not saying much. Some today think that he may have been tone deaf. Amazing considering his groundbreaking drumming. But if you listen to him sing, you cant discount the possibility. Great musical ability and no vocal ability? Just might have been tone deaf.

  • I have perfect pitch. Can tell you a note played on the piano without looking at it. Moon was not tone deaf. Sang both Barbara Ann on TKAA and Bucket T on key.

  • @MrGb1965, I have perfect pitch too (I don't think there's too many like us, apparently). I agree, Keith wasn't tone deaf, he just wasn't the most skilled of singers. However, in my experience, people can be taught. He could never have been a great singer, but he could have improved. I don't think he could have improved his drumming though - little genius!

  • actually thats not true. if youve seen amazing journey, they show him during the pictures of lily sessions doing a very high pitched version of the chorus.

and in the film the kids are alright the do babara ann as a session and his vocals, while not the best, are in tune

  • The way they miked the show, it sounds almost like an acapella performance. Interesting, thanks for posting.

  • Too even think of commenting on the sound quality of this footage is just plain juvenile!!!

    ~wanna-be-punks~ sad.

    This is absolutely priceless!!!

    Thanks for sharing ; - )

  • What a fucking madman, just bleeding brilliant !

  • the picture is cool but the sound is really weird... no mics on the drums or on guitar and bass ! they're only picked up by room mics, sound very distant while you can perfectly hear the voices.

it's interesting anyway, cause it gives you an idea of how loud the bass was in the room !

  • that's how it was then----

  • yeah...the vocal mics are faintly picking up the backline amps and the acoustics of the room, since the singing is right at the mic the vocals are much louder

  • Oh, Keith!!!!

  • what a great crazy video! I have seen the who in the same time in germany, but i dont remember "BabaraAnn"

from the Beach Boys, played by the who. Does anybody remember the german tour and have they played Babababababa?

  • No one beats the who they are the greatest band EVER!!!!

  • Very good, but not the greatest

  • Nah, they are the greatest. :)

  • The only trap drummer I can think of who didn't use or need a hi hat. At least at this time.

  • keith moon is AMAZING!:)

  • i love how keith's singing all the high parts

  • I saw Roger and Pete in October. It was amazing. I'll never forget it.

  • I've noticed lately the best sixties rock footage comes from non-English speaking European countries. They couldn't produce any decent bands but the T.V people knew enough to save the tapes.

  • It's sad that the Who have never been that famous in france... a lot of people don't know them here, but they rock !

  • Bravo!!!

  • John and Keith still amaze me.

  • That was big fun. Thanks for posting.

  • My mistake. It was shot March 31, 1966.

  • It would take three bassists to do what The Ox can do. The best there ever was and ever will be.

  • Greatest rock band ever!

  • amazzzing footage!

  • very nice

  • what a snare sound!

  • LOL Moonie! God I would have loved to meet him!

  • Half the crowd is cheering, and the other half are stunned..

  • Further proof that England had to sell the music back to the world. France could not have done it!

  • OH MY GOD! Live and everything. How did you find this. Just amazing.

  • the who looked like a bunch of teenagers no older than 20 yrs old

  • I'm guessing that Moon was the one pushing for the "Barbara Ann" cover, as his affinity for surf music is well-documented. Great stuff!

  • too funny 5:52. Moon was great.

  • happy birthday roger daltrey

  • moon the loon was head to toe in ginger clothing when he applied to join the who , mad as a hatter great guy :)

  • what the hell is with the camera angle on Keith...fire that cameraman France.

    RIP Keith and John.

  • So close thought, that you could see his zits! I love Keith.

    RIP

  • small kit for the MOON and Fender not Rickenbacker for Pete !

    extrodinaire!

  • Lo MAximo!!!

  • genial

  • Moonie loved The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, If you can believe this, he was in a Surf cover band before joining The Who!

  • True, he actually put out a solo album. The name escapes me but I think its called two sides of the moon, its in my storage, anyway, he actually

sings all this s**t, quite dismally, but typically Keith. A must-hear for any Keith fan.

  • I like his voice, and I love Keiths solo album :)

  • With due respect despite the name, they were not a surf cover band, they may of did the odd beach boys song, but they certainly weren't a surf band, they did loads of stuff from the shadows, hits of the day!

    regards.

  • Wow-who'd have thunk they played the USA Beach Boys songs-they didn't need to-thanks

    for this upload.

    Great band!

  • the beach boys hit before beatles or any of these other great bands. the beach boys were EXTREMELY popular in the early sixties. imagine the fifties sound (yikes!), and then imagine hearing something as unique as the beach boys and/or jan & dean. it was different at that time, and it was BIG.

  • These guys are brilliant. I'll always love this band. Rock on.

  • Rogers A Bit Off......

  • man, i just loooooooove Keith Moon, and evwerything about him .. lets just listen to him here, better than ever ... he wasnt much of a singer, but he did his best ... he is awesome!

  • eargasm

  • why they only show Keith mouth when his singing and don't show Entwistle when his doing his solo?

  • It's stupid how musically gifted these guys are with their instruments!

  • RIP Keith Moon you are were and will always be a LEGEND!!! we are the mods

  • History in the making.

Why don't we get such charismatic stuff

    from bands today ¿

  • am i the only one that like when Keith sings, no matter how?

  • no i like it

  • @Fredrockroll

I love it when he sings!!

  • @Fredrockroll - no, luvvit wen keith sings

  • @Fredrockroll your not the only one, i like it anyway, anyhow, anywhere

  • why do they never show entwistle

  • i was wondering the same thing

  • he didn't fit any of the prototypes for attractive band members. It was all about marketing even then. Roger, Keith and Pete all had followings and marketability...poor John..."the Quiet One".

  • vintaginous whoage.

  • I love the surf tune but it was a 50s bebop tune before it was a beachboys tune and the rock break they put in that song KICKS ASS. as does my generation. my all time fav who song .

  • Let's give Keith a break.. He must have been rather young in this vid. I felt it was a bit mocking anyway as The Who was an early punk band and probably didn't care much for that fake surf crap anyway. If you want real surf, you need the likes of Dick Dale! I'm a Who's who as well as a Dick head, and proud of it!

  • keith moon was a HUGE surf fan. That was all that he played at home. He would blow out theater size speakers playing surf music

  • moon was great,,but to people getting upset if someone says he was a bad singer,,,helooooooo!..be realistic he's aweful ...yet fun,,,,they didnt turn his mike off for nothing during shows..but they let him have his fun.

  • John Entwistle kicks ass

  • i agree. ive got a thing going on for him right now ;3

i dont think keith did too terrible on this song at all considering how bad he could be

  • Did you just say Keith moon could be bad at drumming? Even when he passes out he's amazing, when hes sleeping he's amazing, he's even amazing now he's dead

stand in the corner silly boy ;)

  • great vid!..just the sound ain't the best but i'm sure it was great there..

  • lol - this is great - thanks for this! most americans bow to the beatles and yet it's funny how much a MAJOR influence THE BEACH BOYS were on the who, especially on john entwistle and keith moon. i love it when i see british rock bands give props to american bands like the beach boys. even sir paul mccartney is still in awe over pet sounds..

  • Of course Keith can sing!

Love this video and this song!!

  • Screw everyone who says Keith can't sing, I think his voice is great! And his solo album is amazing. <3

  • Killer performance.

  • this clip typefies how english rock took over the world in the 60s.oasis see it @weep

  • Brilliant clip! Even if Moonie couldn't sing it's still amazing vintage (=best) Who!

  • Great clip ! Very rare indeed

  • excellent rare clip, another i'v never seen before, just a shame the base and drums wern't balanced with the vocals on my generation. what i wouldn't give to have been in the audience!!!!

  • Fabulous -- another rare clip I've never seen. It's *so* mid-60s but my GOD they were freaking *inventing* punk rock back then. Moon was just out of control and for Pete and John they must have been just hanging on for dear life trying to stay together and on tempo. Pretty wild and I'm sure audiences of the times were going "Woah!!!" when they started thrashing instruments. Gotta love it -- shocking the French :-)

  • moon had a pretty bad voice. look up his solo album.

  • dannngg y didn't they let him sing more..he has a high voice could have been the 4th harmony in the vocals....

  • Classic WHO !!!

  • They make the Beach Boys look as good as they were.

  • Pete knew Moon was the best and the kicker mystery man was also on his left!

  • it would be better if they showed moons whole body and not just his mouth....

  • Their prime Keith is so funny

  • While the Beach Boys were not the first to record it, it is the one that everyone remembers and the only version to go to #1 in America and went to #3 in Britain. The Who here are singing the Beach Boys version as they, like the Beach Boys get the middle bit mixed up.

  • Keith Love Surf Music. Before he join The Who he was in surf Band. Imagine a Surf Band from the UK>

  • that would be kind of weird to imagine.the UK doesn't have the tropical beaches that the U.S. has

  • Moon was a big fan of the beach boy's.Thats part of the reason he had a house in malibu CA,He loved the beach and being around the beach boys, good friends with brian wilson major parties at a Moons house. This drove his neighbor crazy back then Steve Mcqueen he did not like moon.

  • Actually, despite the name, The Beachcombers weren't a surf band. =P

  • Keith was such a Beach Boys fan. I think that somebody said that if the Beach Boys had asked to join in the early 70s, he would've been gone. Great footage , thanks a million for posting this. What a great unique band.

  • A great and unique band. What could I say? I have been obsessed with them since I was a little girl, back then in the sixties. No one like The Who!

  • i doubt it,he had too much fame in the Who.And the Beach Boys' probably wouldn't have tolerated him playing around during the show if he got bored

  • LOL, this reminds me of that scene in The Kids are Alright, where they were trying to reprise Barbara Anne, and it kinda went to hell from there ^^

  • i didnt know keith could sing like that

    AWESOME!!!!

  • Wow, why is Roger soo freaking sexy, i would eat him, and hes still sexy, hasnt changed a bit, he really took care of his body, I love him!!

  • Too funny...never knew they did the Beach Boys stuff.

Wow - love them for their own songs! Roger rules!

  • The Beach Boys were an important influence on them early on.

  • The Beach Boys did NOT originally do this song though,it was originally recorded by The Regents (written by Fred Frassert) in 1961.

  • keith isint as bad a singer as people make him out to be

  • great stufff thnx for posting

  • that's the kind of music keith loved. he was a fan of american surf-music. great stuff

  • At first I thought it was John singing the falsotto voice, but then I found out it was Keith! lol

  • Did Keith forget his Hi-hat?

  • Keith did never had a hi-hat on stage -as far as I know...only in the very early days of The Who...

    A really nice clip...

  • Holy crap, this was awesome.

  • I thought I'd seen all old Who footage - I was wrong. I love the JTM 45/100 Marshall stacks. Townshend/Entwistle and in a way, Moon, were the catalysts for the stack amplifier set up. The Who were about volume from the beginning. I don't think people realize the impact of the Who on things such as PA equipment, amps, drums, etc

  • Although you can't hear it, you guys realize he's pretty much reinventing rock drumming back there. Right?

  • correct.

  • Great clip but you can hardly hear Keith's drums-what a shame.

  • Nice! Never seen this one 'fore!

  • real good video..never seen this clip before...

  • O_o oh, this is wonderful!!

  • Excellent video!!!

  • Oh, good old Keefers...LOL!

  • Good find needs to be on google videos this is so damn rare them doing "Barbara Ann" live, I mean wow need to find more live versions of rare studio songs like "Relax" or "Silas Stingy":)

  • "Whenever Keith was in a shitty mood we'd always play 'Bucket T' and 'Barbara Ann' and he'd cheer up instantly." - Roger Daltrey Brilliant footage, why isn't Murray using this instead of b-roll Kids Are Alright footage and interviews with losers like Noel from Oasis?

  • Because the version of "the kids are alright" has a much better sound quality and you can actually hear Keith Moon's drumming. Plus you can hear John Entwistle growling along in an almost inhumane low pitch which adds to the hillarity.

  • Thank you SO much for putting this up!!! Keith's expression on Barbra Ann made me literally, laugh out loud, he looked so estatic. You made my day =D

  • They are French Sods! I mean Mods.

  • Roger's adorable!

  • As per always dear, as per always. He was gorgeous on Parky last night.

  • Never seen this clip before!

    Excellent quality.

  • hahaha my favourite band in the world

  • very...very cool!
