Tom Morey invented the boogie board back in the 70's. It was called morey boogie boards. Then, most of them were called boogie boards. I think it was the biggining of the nineties the term body board caught on. I worked part of one summer mid seventies for Toms start up small manufacturing of boogie and doyle boards in Carlsbad, California. Those were the days.

The first bodyboard was made by Tom Morey and was branded as a Boogieboard! People still refer to all bodyboards as boogieboards but that doesn't make it correct. It's like calling all colas Coke. And you're right...it doesn't matter...THAT WAS MY WHOLE POINT...you didn't need to correct the person who called it a skimboard...but you did.....and you were wrong too....so I corrected you...just to be an asshole like you!

@KNmotorproductions at about 7 seconds into the clip you can see a guy trying to join in a little ways 'downstream' he starts to get swept away but he just stands up and walks back.. I don't think it's all that deep, so in this instance you most likely won't get swept out to sea. You either stand up, or just swim back I guess....

Had wife and 1.5 year daughter at North Shore for wifey's failed attempt at opening Red Lobsters in HA (dumbasses- since closed in disgrace).

Had beloved daughter out for some surf, North Shore style. Tad bit of a shore break going at my locale- I turned towards shore to wave at wifey as a huge set rose behind me. I was belly deep and had to decide wether to fight current to shore- or turn and GO!

I went into wave and emerged to cheers as daughter cried. She's been a beach bum ever since.
