I am a big KC fan (see ya in Atlanta next month) but there were several of her competition songs that I liked better. Although I would not make her best of all time, there is one thing all of us AI fans should always be thankful to her for. If some of the other season winners (i.e. 2, 3, or 5) had been Season 1, the show probably would have failed. She was bigger than the show itself was that time, and as a result, she made the show bigger.

To me, the best of all times is Katharine's Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Several others are equal in vocal, but her delivering that sitting on the stage floor took the performance to a whole new level.

I don't think that Kelly Clarkson was that great of a singer. She's good now with all of her training, but during that Idol season, her voice was always shaky and cracking. The girls in the later seasons would have run rings around her.

And that particular performance with Stevie Wonder as the mentor and present at the time got two standing ovations. It deserves some respect no matter how people may feel about him then or now.
