  • This is interesting.... I love Neil Jordan films. It reminds me of a 1980's version of interview with the vampire.

  • Hahahahahahahaha the wolf at 2:08 looked sooooo real xD

    when was this movie made?

  • @ImTheAwesomeGirl1 It was made in 1984. Though they used a lot of Belgian Shepherds, there were 2 real wolves in the film, provided by Roger & Theresa Palmer who went on to found the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.

  • Females are serpents. They should have substituted "girls" with "boys" in the prologue.

  • who wears that much lipstick to bed? she's gunna wake up with red stains on her pillow, and that crap doesn't come out.

  • @MadWorldAlise lolo

  • Okay, okay, okay! Why does the Wolf man remind me of Anne Rice's Lestat!

  • The novel, which this movie is based on, was inspired by another beautiful movie. "Valerie And Her Week of Wonders" look it up here on youtube;) It's deefinetly worth to check out!

  • @archenemydomi

Also the story that it's based on can be found in Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, most easily described as a book of twisted/subverted fairytales, also one to check out for fans of this movie :)

  • ...We just saw a hairy 39 year old werewolf kiss a 12 year old girl.

  • This film is stunning, one of my favourites. They just don't make enough dark, dreamy fairytale films like this!

  • this movie is in a league of its own. like ameduas, the man who would be king, time bandits and the adventures of baron munchozin, also check out The fall and the house of yes.

  • One of the best film I've ever seen. And movie is unique - it is fairytale for adult with philosophical context. Brilliant music. WHo is composer?

  • George Fenton :)

  • Awesome video! It might not work too well as a trailer since it gives a lot away, but it's a really cool combination.

  • Little Red looks like a young Helena Bonham Carter

  • I think it's Sara Paterson...

  • Yes you're right i think she only ever did about 2-3 more films..great actress

  • ein wundervoller film aus meiner jugend...

  • 01:47 OMG shes gorgeus...*faints*

  • the music in this film in fantastic. beautiful, sad, fantastical, sensual. ust great.

  • This is one of Neil Jordan's finest works. Brilliantly filmed with special effects way ahead of their time. This film simply isn't seen enough on UK television. Also check out "The Magic Toyshop" - in a similar vein.

  • Anyone notice the real peacock at 2:23-2:26 getting trampled?

  • yes, its hysterical. poor thing.

  • i Love the Little poem :)

  • this is movie horror ?

  • yes.

  • yes and no. but its great either way.

  • i love this movie!!!

    its so cool

  • Love this film!

  • great compilation. I can't watch the part when he rips his skin off, ha

  • There is much better the vercion that it portrays charles perrault, where it gives emphasis to the first sexual experience of the young women adolesents, often to provide them with the morvosidad of the man, metaforised in the wolf, which contrasts with the lycanthropy and the innocence of the virgin young women.

  • I LOVE this movie , romantical , dark and thrilling too !))))

  • I'd recommend this film to anyone, it's well acted, great effects and it's full of hidden sexual imagery

  • In the personal thing I like this movie for which it shows the real meaning that perrault wanted to give him to the sexuality of the young women, not the infantile vercion of the brothers grimm, apart from submitting the lycanthropy of a Terrifying way

  • thats what I like about it too... except to clarify, it wasn't Perrault that wanted RRH to portray sexuality in women, he is the whole reason that its's a childrens story. The whole sexuality of Red Rdiding Hood comes before the Perrault version.

  • Actually, this history narrates of the oral tradition very much before that perrault of the oral tradition (thing that if it there reads encontraran much raw and sadistic), but it was perrault the one who gave to him the red color as symbol of the first menstruation of the woman, and all his works is destined to anticipate the misses' meeting with strangers or of the conjugal happiness

  • that poor fuckin' peacock!!!

  • i cant stop laughing at your comment! i thought exactly the same.!!!

  • @hardstreetbambi I know! That really irritates me. It's ashame baecause I love this movie but there was no need for that peacock to be tramplled on!

  • I have forgotten to comment about the music it's is the most greatest ever, i think that's what made the the film popular as well as the actors in the film.

George Fenton is the guy who written the music i love it:)

  • That's are old time family film since it came out in the 1985 i was only little girl then age only 7.

But now for me this film is a headache every place i go even my work place a lot of people say i look the spitting image of the girl Rosaleen i hate it and the thing is it's true everything about her i'm starting to hate film because her.:(

  • She is a very pretty girl. There are worst you could have looked like. Be happy for it.

  • The only Wolves worth worrying about are the ones in the Whitehouse.

  • LOL.... HOW TRUE!!!!

  • LOL

  • It's one of the most beautiful movies ever!

You can almost smell the earth which so young at that time, and full of mystery, and danger.

Little red riding hood... oh what a wolf she came across!!!

  • seems like pple here like Angela Carter.anyone happens to know where i can find downloads for film The Magic Toyshop?

  • whaaaaa thats well sick that!

  • i was really sad when she burned her shawl, it looked so warm and soft :-(

  • How interesting!!!

  • Not sure if any of you heard of this film, A WICKED TALE.... it's also based on the little red riding hood story.

  • If you can find it it's also based on the collection of short stories The Bloody Chamber and other stories by Angela Carter. Angela Carter wrote the screenplay.

  • I watched this for the first time a few weeks ago and it was really good.

  • My favorite movie in the world. This film was out of print in the US for a long time. I scoured flea markets for the movie. When it came back into print, I snatched it up quickly. I could watch it over and over again. I'm a huge Angela Carter fan too. I'd like to find the film of The Magic Toyshop.

  • I first watched this film when I was 14 and fell in love with everything about it. The story, photography, music, costumes, scenery, it's dream-like essence, the girl... etc.

Funny thing is, it didn't scare me then - but now I'm 36, I feel a little uncomfortable watching it...

  • This film is influential for me as well. It moved me to read nearly all of Angela Carter's work, and the screenplay inspired me to study screenwriting. I am currently re-reading it as part of a screenwriting course. I found it a very rich experience to read the screenplay and watch the movie--I read one scene and then watch it on my TV. It has been very illuminating in regards to the screenwriting and film direction process.

  • does anyone know who the music is by? ive never been able to find the soundtrack! : (

    amazing film!

  • The score is by George Fenton and is available on iTunes.

    =]

  • aww thankyou!

  • the girl who plays rosaleen in this movie is absolutly breathtaking, a dream girl for sure. so beautiful.

  • a perfect movie!!

  • also, the music for this film is absolutly breathtaking, so beautiful and haunting, and has that romantic fairytake sound that makes my heart melt.

  • is it just me or the whole ending part when the wolves crash through the window and painting that it just doesnt scare me. i think they are so cute and i just wanna hug dem! wolves and things like that never scared, they dont LOOK scary unless they have the red eyes, other then that, they look like cute dogs mostly.

  • That's because they are dogs.

  • i know that LOL.

  • I meant the animals used in the film- real wolves are quite different from domestic dogs, physically, mentally and behaviorally. I would certainly be wary about hugging a wolf :P

  • LOL i knew that the wolves in the movie were dogs. i was just saying, when the "wolf" crashes through the window, its so cute, not scary lol

  • my grandma told me the same many years ago...

  • i had that exact dream once as a kid

being chased through some woods on a dark night by wolves

  • Is ace music. This music rocks.

  • as a kid i never forgot the box art of the wolf nose stickin out of that dudes mouth, you cant forget that when your 5, i always wanted to see it but my gma and gpa didnt let me, im going to finish this curiosity once and for all

  • i remember the first time i saw that box and i was about 5 or 6. i haven't forgot it since, but i've never seen it

  • yah even though this movie is 4 years before my time, i was born in 88, it still was chillin around my hick ass neveda tone in a grocery store movie place called smiths and it just looked so kool

  • i was born in 91 and i saw it at a pigley wigley's

  • that stuck in my mind too! the movie's much wierder/mystical than you'd think tho. it was marketed as a mainstream wolf movie but it's more like a poetic british fantasy.

  • Yeah, if óne expects this to be a good Werewolf movie, then they will probably be dissapointed. It's a great fantasy movie though, very dreamlike.

Soundtrack is good aswell, love the song played in this video for example!

  • LOL i know what you mean about the box image, so freaky! STILL freaky!

  • It's the same for me here. I saw this movie at video stores when I was a kid (I was born in 79) and the picture on the box intrigued me. It scared me, but I always wanted to see it when I got older. Later I discovered the works of Angela Carter and learned this was her movie. I had to find it! I love this film.

  • beautiful music. really stirs up the emotions. i have this film on DVD. brilliant!! saw it as a kid and loved it.

  • wonderful editing! I thank you for posting it, especially love the opening with the words.

  • Wow, thanks for this, just great, one of my very favorite movies ever ! Girls, beware of these wolfes, i'm talking from my own experience!

  • Thanks for watching it;)

  • wow 0:53

  • great film fantastic effects

  • Excellent film! very strange and richly imaginative. But then Angela Carter ( whose short story it was based on ) was an amazing author!

  • One of two my favorite films (the second one is "Valerie a tyden divu").

  • I also love this movie. I find many of the scenes have a very surreal, almost magical feel about them.

  • I love this movie. I saw it when i was like 12 yo and i didnt understand it but i thought the wolf stories were great. Watching it again at 26 its very good and now i understand the symbolism. my fav scene is the story about the she-wolf.

  • her mind is barely focused

all things seem black as coal

as her eyes they shut like trapdoors

    gateways into her soul

  • Is all that we see or seem

But a dream within a dream?

    - Edgar Allan Poe

  • Great clip.

  • The real story of Little Red Riding Hood? Love it.

  • man, this is one of the oddest movies i've seen... this means - i love it a lot! pretty good clip. thanks!
