@ImTheAwesomeGirl1 It was made in 1984. Though they used a lot of Belgian Shepherds, there were 2 real wolves in the film, provided by Roger & Theresa Palmer who went on to found the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.
Encuentro esta pelicula fabulosa las imagenes, la musica toda esa ambientacion entre un miedo melancolico, estraño. Es una de mis pelñicuclas favoritas
The novel, which this movie is based on, was inspired by another beautiful movie. "Valerie And Her Week of Wonders" look it up here on youtube;) It's deefinetly worth to check out!
Also the story that it's based on can be found in Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, most easily described as a book of twisted/subverted fairytales, also one to check out for fans of this movie :)
this movie is in a league of its own. like ameduas, the man who would be king, time bandits and the adventures of baron munchozin, also check out The fall and the house of yes.
This is one of Neil Jordan's finest works. Brilliantly filmed with special effects way ahead of their time. This film simply isn't seen enough on UK television. Also check out "The Magic Toyshop" - in a similar vein.
There is much better the vercion that it portrays charles perrault, where it gives emphasis to the first sexual experience of the young women adolesents, often to provide them with the morvosidad of the man, metaforised in the wolf, which contrasts with the lycanthropy and the innocence of the virgin young women.
In the personal thing I like this movie for which it shows the real meaning that perrault wanted to give him to the sexuality of the young women, not the infantile vercion of the brothers grimm, apart from submitting the lycanthropy of a Terrifying way
thats what I like about it too... except to clarify, it wasn't Perrault that wanted RRH to portray sexuality in women, he is the whole reason that its's a childrens story. The whole sexuality of Red Rdiding Hood comes before the Perrault version.
Actually, this history narrates of the oral tradition very much before that perrault of the oral tradition (thing that if it there reads encontraran much raw and sadistic), but it was perrault the one who gave to him the red color as symbol of the first menstruation of the woman, and all his works is destined to anticipate the misses' meeting with strangers or of the conjugal happiness
I have forgotten to comment about the music it's is the most greatest ever, i think that's what made the the film popular as well as the actors in the film.
George Fenton is the guy who written the music i love it:)
That's are old time family film since it came out in the 1985 i was only little girl then age only 7.
But now for me this film is a headache every place i go even my work place a lot of people say i look the spitting image of the girl Rosaleen i hate it and the thing is it's true everything about her i'm starting to hate film because her.:(
If you can find it it's also based on the collection of short stories The Bloody Chamber and other stories by Angela Carter. Angela Carter wrote the screenplay.
My favorite movie in the world. This film was out of print in the US for a long time. I scoured flea markets for the movie. When it came back into print, I snatched it up quickly. I could watch it over and over again. I'm a huge Angela Carter fan too. I'd like to find the film of The Magic Toyshop.
I first watched this film when I was 14 and fell in love with everything about it. The story, photography, music, costumes, scenery, it's dream-like essence, the girl... etc.
Funny thing is, it didn't scare me then - but now I'm 36, I feel a little uncomfortable watching it...
This film is influential for me as well. It moved me to read nearly all of Angela Carter's work, and the screenplay inspired me to study screenwriting. I am currently re-reading it as part of a screenwriting course. I found it a very rich experience to read the screenplay and watch the movie--I read one scene and then watch it on my TV. It has been very illuminating in regards to the screenwriting and film direction process.
is it just me or the whole ending part when the wolves crash through the window and painting that it just doesnt scare me. i think they are so cute and i just wanna hug dem! wolves and things like that never scared, they dont LOOK scary unless they have the red eyes, other then that, they look like cute dogs mostly.
I meant the animals used in the film- real wolves are quite different from domestic dogs, physically, mentally and behaviorally. I would certainly be wary about hugging a wolf :P
as a kid i never forgot the box art of the wolf nose stickin out of that dudes mouth, you cant forget that when your 5, i always wanted to see it but my gma and gpa didnt let me, im going to finish this curiosity once and for all
yah even though this movie is 4 years before my time, i was born in 88, it still was chillin around my hick ass neveda tone in a grocery store movie place called smiths and it just looked so kool
that stuck in my mind too! the movie's much wierder/mystical than you'd think tho. it was marketed as a mainstream wolf movie but it's more like a poetic british fantasy.
It's the same for me here. I saw this movie at video stores when I was a kid (I was born in 79) and the picture on the box intrigued me. It scared me, but I always wanted to see it when I got older. Later I discovered the works of Angela Carter and learned this was her movie. I had to find it! I love this film.
I love this movie. I saw it when i was like 12 yo and i didnt understand it but i thought the wolf stories were great. Watching it again at 26 its very good and now i understand the symbolism. my fav scene is the story about the she-wolf.
This is interesting.... I love Neil Jordan films. It reminds me of a 1980's version of interview with the vampire.
