  • "If we think of J. Edger Hoover, J. Edgar Hoover will come and destroy us."

  • I really wanted to see this movie because I had seen "The King's Speech" and this movie seemed to be in the same visual, etc. qualities as TKS. I think the only reason I can say it was good, was because of Leo and Armie Hammer. I totally agree guys, yeah everyone's makeup was exceptional except for Armie.... What happened to him? Great movie, a bit slow, and yeah I think Leo carried it very well. The music in the film was great though, I think that's what can your opinion of a movie change.

  • I am planning to see this movie tomorrow. I hope it's good!

  • Oliver Stone's NIXON is annoying too with the flashback and forward and back again.

  • Leo definetly deserves a nomination if not a win, but i suspect he'll only get a nom

Hammer deserves a nom but i doubt he'll get one

  • I've just seen it and I think its better then Kristian gave it credit for being. Although I agree about Hammer's make up. DiCaprio was very good and I could seem him getting nominated. I'd go 3 / 5.

  • I thought this movie was great, but I can see how people thought it was bad. This movie is not about action or suspensce, its about sheding light on the man who created the Federal Burea of Investigation, who orchristrated the downfall of our history's most famous criminals, but is only know for being a cross-dresser. It's not to dramatise his life but to actually reviel what he went through. We always think of him as a cross-dresser but this film is saying no, there is so much more to him.

  • looks like another long and boring dicaprio movie, not interested.

i would rather go see a jack and jill/harold and kumar 3d christmas double feature than see this.lol.

  • @SNAKEEYESSAM Lemme guess, you must love Michael Bay films, too.

You're one of those people who completely turns off your brain to everything and just watch films for eye candy. Loser. You probably cream your underpants while watching Twilight, too, huh? Fucking pansyass.

  • @ColonelChaos0 - i actually hate twilight and have never seen any of the movies.theres no reason to rip on me just because i didn't want to go see this movie that bombed at the box office.

i don't like dicaprio,i don't see what the big deal is about him,he's not that great an actor.

  • @SNAKEEYESSAM Sure you do. Haters like you gonna hate.

  • @ColonelChaos0 -i'm not a hater,you are.

let people like whatever they want without bugging them.

  • @SNAKEEYESSAM You're a class A hater, broski. Fuck off.

  • Best. Opening. Ever. :D

  • movie was good. Decrapio was awesome. very good portrayal.

  • The guy on the right actually looks like J. Edgar Hoover. And in all these movie reviews he's with his male "companion". I kid, of course.

  • i want Joseph Gordon Levitt to win Best Actor for 50/50, but im not too sure if he'll even get nominated for Best Actor

  • @TheTExperiance I am with you there

  • How many thousands of other actors would have been so much better to play Hoover? Directors in Hollywood seem obsessed with Leo. Enough already. He's a great actor but always poorly-cast.

  • @dunskie He was pretty good in his honestly, it was the movie that falls short

  • He wasn't both of the winklevii twins he was only one of them!

  • @lewisp90 Nope, he played them both, his face was cgi'd over another actor's body

  • looks very interesting~ love the violin~ will go see it!

  • that intro was funny? haha?

  • @Codycodeable Someone had to say it

  • I'll say it again, you guys are getting better with these intros, I keep loling. I know Hoffa does the same kind of structure that Kristian complained about.

  • @Hyman74Roth Thank you!

  • Lean nuestra reseña de “J. Edgar” en nuestro sitio en español

  • Leo should've won an Oscar for The Aviator, but at least The Aviator prepared him well for J. Edgar. Leo's itching for a Best Actor Oscar, big time. He's not a kid anymore. He's worked with the some of the best, has learned his craft & it shows. He better win one for J. Edgar...

  • @lorrainethepain I think nomination is a given, not sure about a win here

  • Yeah man! Something about Armie's older makeup was awful! I didn't buy him as an old person one bit.

  • @ChrisStuckmann Yeah just sloppy

  • I don't know now..nvm Ima see Rum Diary

  • @CaptainPommby I enjoyed that film, I seem to be in minority

  • What camera do you guys use to make your reviews?

  • @mrlegoman11 My I phone. I'm getting the new one. I think the last one was blurry.

  • @mrlegoman11 We use a cannon, we shoot in 1080

  • Damn I was so excited a little nervous now though.

  • @moviefan978 Well if you see it, let us know!

  • @schmoesknow I am kind of in between you guys in thoughts on the movie.

  • Why are you guys so obsessed with the Oscars? Usually the films that make the Oscar list is bunch of yuppie coffee house movies that are boring as hell. "Critics" like to masturbate to these films. Oscars can kiss my ass as far as I am concerned.

  • @ramfock As a movie fan, still interests me who gets the nomination, I hope the movies that deserve it get nominated. I can understand not being a fan of Oscars

  • @ramfock Critics don't have anything to do with the oscars.

  • I pretty much just want to see it because Dicaprio is one of my favorite actors.

  • @LostFringeSuper8 Totally understand that

  • and to reiterate - I bet you a dozen bagels that Leo gets the Oscar.

  • @twojewsonfilm Wins it? Or nominated. I will take that bet. If I win, I want my dozen from the Bagel Broker on Beverly please

  • @twojewsonfilm You got it. And If I win - I want them from Larry King's Brooklyn Bagel please.

  • @twojewsonfilm Sure thing. To clarify, I do think he will get nominated, not win

  • @twojewsonfilm Got it. And my favorite bagels are onion, sesame and garlic. LOL.

  • @twojewsonfilm Salt here

  • @schmoesknow Salt it is. I promise not to gloat.

  • i thought he was gonna give it 3.6 - i was close

i was hoping this movie was going to be about the dirty stuff he did, im disappointed to hear that its not

  • @aassaa99 Me too!

  • Leonardo will get an oscar, I will rent it.

  • @PirateHugger I am not buying him winning the oscar for this, nominated yes

  • Didn't I just see Jeffrey Donovan as Kennedy? And here I am, waiting for Burn Notice to return to Swedish TV...

I don't think I'll see J. Edgar in the meanwhile, though...

  • @Hummingbirder1 Was he Kennedy in something?

  • @schmoesknow Well, yeah! In the movie J. Edgar... as Robert Kennedy! I saw it in your review, you show a clip about 1.35-1.37 where LdC says "feel free to share it with your brother, mr Kennedy" and then something about he has copies of the presented documents. Implying, no doubt, that destroying said documents are futile ;-)

Anyway, if it hadn't been for your review of said movie I wouldn't have known he once again rubbed shoulders with greatness (Angelina Jolie last time).

  • so many times i saw leonardo di caprio shine through his j.edgar disguise....unforgibeable in my opinion!

  • @mhammer1777 Fair enough

  • Leo from titanic habeen gone for a long time..he actually makes some great movies these days..but this one eh..

  • @TheKumitechamp He is great in everything now, and is great in this. I just am not sure he will win it

  • @schmoesknow This is Lord FarCry.

Did you know that I used to be a cross-dresser?

LOL!!!!!!!! I'm kidding of course. Who am I, Ed Wood?

  • Don't make fun of 6 flags man! He once stole my cotton candy and he wears a bow tie. And everyone knows "bow ties are cool." I was excited to see this movie. I love these period piece films and thought it was going to have a citizen Kane vibe going for it with young y old Leo but when sloppy came up I shook my head. Such a shame. But Leo will get nominated none the less. Academy eats Leo's charm up.

  • @DjHamHam411 Yeah they just don't give him a win

  • I was actually really looking forward to the movie. The bad make-up problem really bothers me in movies..it pisses me off when the make-up is bad..idk why...its one of my biggest movie pet peeves.

  • @Zahinn Yeah it is a distraction, especially when the other make up is so good

  • Great review, I almost pissed myself when you showed the picture of the Six Flags Guy at the end.

  • @punk144157 Ha, thank you!

  • Two comments for K. George and M. Edward:

    1. I like the way you presented your names in this episode.

    2. I especially liked M. Edward's choreography for "he was telling a story."

    Thanks Schmoes!

  • @Hitormissmovies You are welcome, thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Guys... I don't know what the first 12 seconds was in reference to, but that face dude made has made my day. AWWWWWWWW! lol

  • @Boobalopbop J. Edgar was rumored to have been a cross dresser

  • @schmoesknow

    He was definitely a transsexual

  • @schmoesknow I thought that was Rudy Giuliani

  • Comment removed

  • Big fan of the Direwolf shirt.

  • Really want to see this. Love Dicaprio, love the time period, and love slow burners. Great review guys! Can't wait to see Winklevoss's make up

  • @LiveYoungStudios Let us know once you check it out!

  • I'll probably get the screener for this and watch it then. I wont be going out to see it.

  • @NotCharlesMorse Smooth move, makes sense actually

  • who ever gets top comment is gay!!!

  • Oh that's a shame, I was expecting 5/5 lol. Are you guys seeing immortals?

  • @MafiaMovieMan Yup, review is going to be up tonight

  • I'm want Brad Pitt to win for Moneyball... As for best picture I have to wait for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo It looks amazing. I would love David Fincher to win best director also which is LONG overdue.

  • @jao1915 Both big possibilities

  • Such a shame. I thought we were looking at some Oscar worthy stuff.....Oh and Kristian, we have the same middle name. :)

  • @InsaneBurger Welcome to the club Burger!

  • @schmoesknow Thank you Mr. Harloff :)

  • Comment removed

  • HOW DO YOU SEE THESE MOVIES? ive been watching for a year and i always forgot to ask... or look in the comments haha

  • @idomyreportsincrayon Hey man, we are on the press list. Since our appearances on Adam Carolla and our show on Movies.com, we have been invited to the screenings by the studios

  • @schmoesknow that's awesome!

  • dicaprio

  • So then Leonardo Dicaprio's preformance is oscar worthy? If you ask me he got snubbed big time last year for Shutter Island.

  • @marvelfan64 It is Oscar worthy, I think he will get a nomination, can't see him winning though

  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes for best picture! Yeah I know it won't happen, but it was the best movie this year. So far...

  • @TruArtStudios Never know, could get a YouReviewer nomination

  • I don't know that movie is haunting in my brain for some month's for some unkown reason's, problably beacause I finnally wanna see I charachter that is gay and can feard or mean or annyting beside the fashion girlly boy.

So should I see it ?

Sorry for the spelling it's just it's midnight and I am tired and horny or something else

grat review like always, keep the good job.

  • @GArbedg Thanks Garbedg, listen, if you have an interest in the film, you should check it out, let us know what you think!

  • eh dont have much interest in this suprisingly i will prob get it as a screener for theoscars so ill probably just watch it at home. Awesome review schmoes also liking the reitman channel as well

  • @justme7388 Thanks Lucas, yeah she is great. She has been our co host on the podcast for a few episodes. Check out her debut. I think it is episode 20

  • If you don't like it you're a commie!

But seriously speaking, I liked The Aviator. Would've been funny if Leo made a cameo as Hughes, where he and Hover exchanged knowing looks ;)

  • @BWGgy Ha, that would have been great

  • great review as always guys

  • @snazpatrol Thanks snaz

  • I got the APES schmoe right. Not harloffs though. Damn you! Guessed it on that facebook post. Letting me down harloff!

  • @mindlesss3lf What'd you think I would score it?

  • @schmoesknow I went with a solid 4/5. Mostly banking on the fact that Dicaprio would do the movie justice, and the fact that Clint Eastwood is known for putting out pretty good movies.

  • great intro

  • Great review, hopefully I'll still like this movie. And I think the reason they didn't show the dirty stuff was because they didn't want to pick sides as to whether Edgar was good or bad, they just wanted to tell his story.

  • @AlanGunn97 I agree with you, I just wish they would have picked a side

  • so no sexing between Leonardo and the guy from The Social Network? :/ might have to pass...

  • @AFHProductions I'm sure if it was today, that'd happen

  • Great review.

  • @zaneoninternet Thanks zane, appreciate that

  • I hate when biographical roles win all the awards for the actors, so i'm rooting against Leo, Meryl Streep and even Michelle Williams.

  • @PennyLane979 I think there will be some shockers this year

  • you guys are one a roll with (at least the left one) negative reviews. it just turns from "funny movie review" to any other review show on youtube. cheer up or you'll lose viewers. you just seem like you're getting in over your head with the whole cinematography this, cinematography that...

  • @scholz9876 Sorry, I won't just like a movie because I am afraid to be negative. Maybe you didn't see our reviews of Harold and Kumar, Tower Heist, Ides of March, Rum Diary. All positive and most recent.

  • @schmoesknow never meant it that way. i did see those reviews, but thats four out of i dunno how many. as much as i love watching you guys, it just seems like you're disappointed a lot from the films recently. still watch every single one though...ive been here since knight and day ;-) bring things like the 'script writing cat' back - that was funny-disappointed!

  • @scholz9876 Fair enough scholz, I understand wanting to see goofy, we switch it up, it depends on the movie. I will say that I really respect the way you presented your concern. It was constructive criticism and it is appreciated.

  • @scholz9876 Actually, I quite like your negative reviews. This is because most films are crap. I don't like the whole "Entertainment Tonight" (sorry if this is out-of-date; I've been out of the US for a long time) the whole "Entertainment Tonight" style of kissing butt and promoting anything. And I trust the "schmoe" style of ordinary (but intelligent) guys. I won't see this film, even though I am interested in the era.

  • Do you guys think that DiCaprio will ever win an Oscar or will he constantly get nominated and fall just short each time?

  • @thehitman86 He will win it, he is still very young

  • was the score any good??

  • @christianfilmer1500 Yes very much so actually

  • @schmoesknow cool!!

  • @christianfilmer1500 Was pretty good

  • I want to see it just because Clint Eastwood directed and I love Judi Dench.

  • @SeeItInIMAX Dench was great, feel bad not to mention her, time restraints

  • Who's J.Edgar?

  • @shadoehaze haha

  • I was sooo excited to see this film, until I found out that Eastwood directed it. Unforgiven was EXCELLENT, but what good film has he released since then that was any good? Zilch. DiCaprio is an amazing actor, the story sounds great, but, I'll probably wait for the DVD. And maybe there wasn't anymore "juicy" info to go into on this film, maybe Hoover and his career were boring, maybe he wasn't gay, maybe he was not in on JFK's assasination? Maybe this was all there was to tell.

  • @badlieutenant13 I liked Million Dollar Baby and Gran Turino personally

  • Man, you two couldn't have more different taste in movies. I seem to be more in line with Christian's pics.

  • @leebrandt33 Yeah, it is funny, we go through stages. Sometimes there are months where we agree and then there are times we are against one another, this is one of those times

  • Damn, i really was looking forward to this one. Well i just hope that this is the movie that Leo wins an oscar

  • @TTHEBLACKR0CK I don't know, i mean he could get nominated but there are some other performances out there I think are better

  • I'm super disappointed to hear this review. I really hope it is better to me than it was to you guys. I have been looking forward to this all year. I really want it to be good!

  • @trioval83 I hope you like it better as well! Let us know!

  • I would still care if it wasn't Eastwood or DeCaprio

  • As would I, my point was in this depiction of it, the way the story was told, I don't think you care about J. Edgar, good or bad, you only care because it is Dicaprio

  • @schmoesknow and we all hated the crap out of DiCaprio after Titanic... but since "Blood Diamond" he's once of my favorite actors..

  • No! I thought this movie was going to get at least 4 or 4.5 from you guys!

I think I am still going to see it because I like Dicaprio and Eastwood

  • @animegirl506 I did too anime, I wanted it to be 5 out of 5, I was rooting for it to get better and better

  • I wanna see this, and Eastwood is the man, but Armie Hammer looking like the Six Flags Guy might keep me laughing through this movie.

  • @TheCinemaTologist If you see it and agree, let us know

  • I'm interested in seeing it because it looks decent but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm totally on the same page with Kristian in wanting to see a more edgy Oliver Stone esque portrayal of the man but your just not going to get that with Eastwood. I like him but I think he's way overrated as a director. He tends to rely on sentimentality to the point of nausea (i.e. Gran Torino & Invictus).

    D.A. of Schmoeville

  • @grindhouse141 Agree with Eastwood maybe not being the guy for this one

  • Might have been better had Hoover had something on Eastwood. Remember, Eastwood was acting during the real life Hoover's reign. Eastwood might have thought well of him.

  • @rofyle Not a bad point

  • This'll at least be nominated for best art direction.

  • @Acouplevideosisall Has a good shot for sure

  • Ah, well this stinks I thought this was going to be really good!

  • @KINGJADEX As did I

  • But did the movie also chronic his supposedly relationship with Clive and his rumor cross-dressing?

  • @SenorNerd They do, the relationship more than the cross dressing

  • I'm really surprised by all the bad reviews this film is getting. It's only at a 44% on RT so far. I was so excited for this, but i'm not sure i will go see it now. Probably just wait for the dvd.

  • @henrik6754 Not a bad move

  • Great review guys!

  • @moovieman222 Thank you!

  • ohhhh... i was looking forward to this movie sooooo much

  • @starkingbiker Yeah me too, bummed

  • How was Jeffrey Donovan in this?

  • @DeanSearle Small role, but pretty good actually

  • It's Eastwood, I gotta see it.

  • @mrebyers Definitely understand the respect

  • It's 43% on RottenTomatoes, not many films with a rotten score have gotten any "major" Oscars.

  • Comment removed

  • @ClockworkCaptain "Elizabeth: The Golden Age = BEST ACTRESS & COSTUMES (Nomination & Win)[/OWNED]" is what you said.

I said "NOT MANY FILMS WITH A ROTTEN SCORE HAVE GOTTEN ANY MAJOR OSCARS"

First of all "NOT MANY," second "GOTTEN ANY," third "MAJOR OSCARS."

So not many films (NOT "no films") with a rotten score (below 60%) have gotten any (won) major Oscars (Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Acting in a Lead Role).

    So YOU are owned, sir.

  • @PrimaveraPictures Best Actress is major, and that is what that film got. you sir are owned.
