  • Where do you FIND these?

  • 3;01 ok what with the ass dance?

  • BTW, DiC? Sonic's not supposed to be able to swim.

  • I find it ironic that they initially got Jim Cummings to voice AoStH Robotnik. The same Jim Cummings that voiced SATAM Robotnik.

  • Mr Bumpy as Robotnik? that would be ...... interesting

  • Who said "What a great plan, Dr. Robotnik! Stealing the village's water supply!"?

Scratch or the narrator? I can't tell who said that.

  • No music or sound effects? LAME!

  • Lol, in this promo apparently Sonic can swim and fly. I'm not talking about his Spin Dash either, proper flying. :D

  • hmmmm... sonic kinda can't swim fellas...

  • lol robotnik's ass.

  • @ubercream it's shaking

  • Cummings did the voice of Robotnik in SATAM as well, how about that.

  • StaAm is better

  • sonic x is sick man. watch it sometimes.

  • Why DO they outsource animation to Korea anyway? I can understand if it's for financial issues, we ALL know how stingy animation companies can be(Eisner, anyone? :P)

  • 2:18 its WallE!

  • Oy... It's Jim Cummings. Famous voice actor... he played Robotnik in Sonic SatAm. They changed the voice for the series because they recorded it in Canada, and had to use their voice actors.

  • sonic doesn't swim (if you watch sonic x he says he hates the water)

  • Yea in the games he cant swim at all.

  • Fuck Sonic X worst show ever

  • your mama is the worst show ever.

  • Comment removed

  • 0:34 Wat is Robotnik doing with his butt?!

  • @Greenbluemonk I can only imagine he's doing some kind of "happy dance", because he believes he's got Sonic. The audio wasn't finished, so they probably didn't get round to recording Jim Cummings for that scene.

  • same guy :3

  • The guy who voiced Pete also did the voice of a different version of Robotnik.

  • Funny how the animation appears to be superior and more polished than what the actual show aended up being. these clips make the standard the actual show set look like a straight to DVD disney sequel by comparison

  • That's 'cause the animation here was not outsourced to Asia (back then, there were numerous problems with outsourced animation).

  • That's brilliant! Really interesting to learn a bit about how the series was conceived, and to see some great animation too! I like seeing how they pitch concepts like these, I need to find out more about it ;)

  • If only, if only (the animation)...

Say, does anyone know what Ed Love animated in this pilot? As a classic cartoon fan, I'm curious!

  • Hilarious Animation

  • Milton is a dirty cartoonist.

  • that's just the way I like my cartoonists.

  • This looks like if non-Warners saturday morning animation actually had effort put into it.

  • Beautiful.

  • Man, without a sound and music?

  • If you look at Milton Knights website, it states that the new AOSTH DVD includes the pilot as recovered from M.K himself.

  • lol the voice actor for Robotnik is Jim Cummings...lol Cummings

  • I think they should have stayed with this concept. I like this and the animation way more than the AoStH show itself.

  • WATCH THIS!

  • why,is,robotnik,mad,at,sonic?

  • Why,do,you,type,like,this?

  • I can only assume that Mr. Knight is an admirer of Jim Tyer.

  • Who's that?

  • Some of these scenes were aired in one episode of Adv. of Sonic. Why wouldn't they air this so called "Pilot Episode"?

  • sonic swimming???? WTF XDD

  • Tex Avery style! its a shame the animation didn't stay as good as this, I would have shat bricks as a kid seeing this

  • I would have loved to have seen a "sez" segment.

  • the animation in the pilot is ALOT better than the actual series. LMAO

why couldnt it always look like THIS? It probably would have been cooler tho

  • AND I THOUGHT SONIC COULDNT SWIM!!

  • I hate Robotnik's voice in this

  • phil hayes is better as scratch since he sounds like a complete idiot

when jim cummings voices him, it sounds like if he wasn't an idiot and was just a smart and loyal bodyguard

  • And him and Robotnik sound exactly alike. Just isn't fitting either.

  • intresting thanx for posting

  • I know the scene with Robotnik in the underground drill machine and the thing of Robotnik stealing water were put into "Lovesick Sonic".

Scratch kinda sounds like Darkwing Duck...

  • hmm Tails is orange in these clips...

  • This sounds like it was filmed during a voicing session.

  • MEANWHI-

  • MEANWHI- SCRATCH IS HUMPING A AIR PUMP

  • i thought Sonic hated water

  • He does; but he always does whats right, not what suits him best.

  • AoStH has him able to swim fluently. It was only in the later incarnations that he loses the ability to swim.

  • To RyuujinWolf: Well in the Classic Genesis games, Sonic doesn't seem to react that much to water. He didn't hate water, he just didn't swim that's all. I guess he just preferred walking in the water to actually swimming. Plus I thought it was completely fucking stupid of Sega to not give Sonic the ability to swim. It's an ability that he really should have had from the start. I'm glad that the writers of AOSTH & SatAM gave Sonic the ability to swim.

  • Yeah, I couldn't understand why the hell Sonic had to be hydrophobic.

  • it al lstarted with Sonic Underground lol to be funny I guess :P (then the movie, then Sonic X, then Olympic Games. That's the ONLY times it's ever been mentioned but it probably derrives from the fact that Sonic never showed the abilty to swim, only to run across water if fast enough (Sonic 3, next gen, Sonic Unleashed) or meraly walk around underwater while holdinh his breath relying on random air bubbles to survive XD (and Tails, Knuckles and Rouge all had playable swimming features before)

  • I don't often say this, but I'm kind of glad they chose John Baldry over Jim Cummings as the voice of Robotnik.

  • Yeah Jim hardly has effort

  • Well, no, it's not that Jim doesn't put any effort into it, it's just that the voice he chose to use here didn't fit this iteration of Robotnik. I suppose it's unfair to compare them now, after being a fan of Baldry's Robotnik for so long, but biased or not, I stick to my opinion.

  • Jim's still one of my favorite voice actors ever, though. His voice for Dr. Robotnik in the second Sonic series fit the character perfectly, and I think Baldry may have influenced Jim's choice-of-voice for that character a little bit.

  • I seem to be of the lesser majority of the fans who personally thought that Baldry was a marvelous Robotnik <3

  • We're both stinky, biased YTP fans. :P

  • Nothin' wrong with that, good sir. <3

  • We only heard Mr. Cummings do two lines, it's pretty hard to judge if he's putting in enough effort or not, though I think he does.

  • yeah and dont forget that this is also pretty early. Look at Homer Simpson in his pilot episode, he sounds nothing like he does now. (I mean the tracy short onces)

  • Also, I feel this pilot is actually remarkably well done. The animation is very fluid and smooth. Milton Knight has incredible talent. Without him, indeed the show would not be the same.

  • Ed love helped alot as well, he worked for Hana Babera, MGM and Disney.

  • Jim is great voice actor.

Explain to me why he been picked for roles non-stop in the last 10 years!

  • how should I know? I never hired him

  • scaratch sounds like he said the f word at the beginning!

  • "D'oh fuck!"

  • Wait a minute, I thought Sonic couldn't swim! :o

  • I think that's just something they added in Sonic X and the OVA...XD

  • Shame on them and their continuity issues >.>

  • you obviously haven't played ANY of the games, my good man. Go ahead, try jumping into the water, see what Sonic does. Nothing.

this cartoon fudged up on that, that's for sure

  • Even though this cartoon was made YEARS before any of the DC games. O_o

  • wtf? DC? Do you mean DS? Are you a retard? Sonic had dozens of games in the freakin Sega Genesis ages before this show! damn, how old are you gamer noobs?!

  • DC stands for Dreamcast. The Sonic Adventure games -- the first 3D ones -- were on the Dreamcast system. What DarknessbUnnie said made sense.

  • first fully converted to 3D games, there was already both versions of Flicky's Island, Sonic R, Sonic Jam, and Sonic Fighters. lol

  • Milton Knight kicks ass, I love his style for these characters!

  • 0:48, is this what happens after the usual credits (Robotnik gets squished by his own trap)?

  • Yep!

  • well what if Sonic does?

  • And does anyone remember the gangster episode where Roller and Ball Hog from the first game who appear in the Spring Yard and Scrap Brain zones as well or no?

  • Anyone notice the robots/badniks who chase Sonic while he is swimming are from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 like the piranha robots from Emerald Hill, and Aquatic Ruins and the Octopus Robot from Oil Ocean? Some of the robots from the first two games appear in this cartoon like Grounder is from Sonic 2 in the Aquatic Ruins while Coconuts is from Emerald Hill and Scratch is based on the Chicken Robot from Winged Fortess.

  • scrach sounds so dumb

  • nice vid.

  • yaw!

  • It's odd, the pilot's animation is twice as good as the rest of the episodes.

  • Yeah... that's really odd. Especially since shows usually get BETTER animation after the pilot.

  • the reason there is no sound is because they scraped this and didnt get to finish it then they moved on to another version

  • It looks like A adventures of sonic the hedgehog movie because of the animation.

  • ?!?! Sonic can't swim!!!

  • No sound??

  • No Sound Effects, dude.

  • yeah it sucks.

  • Amazing hearing Jim Cummings as the AoStH Robotnik. I think his work as SatAM Robotnik was some of the best ever, but Long John Baldry just fit this version of Robotnik better.

  • this is weird, i never actually seen a test pilot like this since the Tracey Ulman show keep showing the simpsons.

  • Sonic isnt suppose to be able to swim in this show either. The first time I found out he couldnt swim was Sonic Underground, and in an episode if this one i saw him fall in the water and wasnt able to swim so he suck up air bubbles like in the old game, the second time i found he couldnt swim was Sonic OVA, then this show, then Sonic X, tho the games never say if he can swim or not, but he never does, tho he isnt afraid of the water like on the shows.

  • Wait--SONIC CAN'T SWIM!!! XDD

  • I don't know if I've seen this episode at all, but when I see that scene with Sonic svimming, and start's grining, and enters that pipe, and the whole pipe scene I get a serious dejavu feeling. Why does Tom 'n Jerry pop up in my head?

  • AoSTH is defantly my fav out of Satam and underground

  • it reminds of spumco what with robotnik's jiggly bum

  • "I hate to PUMP AND RUN" aw man these old shows were kinda raw in a way

  • Awesome! That was cool, something new XD...*SHOT*

  • Why do some scenes have sound and others don't?

  • Veeery In-te-res-ting...

This is some grand find. Thanks for sharing :)

  • to SegaUranus. The animation is far from bad. It's actually rather well done, although it's a lot different from other cartoons.

  • Sonic? Swimming?! Blasphemy!

  • Sadly, the show didn't look anywhere NEAR as good as this does. :( And Jim Cummings as Scratch?! oO;

  • Long John Baldry > Jim Cummings for Robotnik's voice.

  • Robotnik sounded more like Pete than Robotnik. And this would be a good extra for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Volume 1 on DVD.

  • Yes, the same voice actor as Pete, Jim Cummings also played Robotnik on SatAM.

  • I liked Jim Cummings in DIC's more Dramatic portrayal of Dr. Robotnik, but Long John Baldry was better in this one, I admit ^^;

  • Sonic could swim back then?Wow,I wonder how he lost that ability in sonicx.

  • Well, he never really swam in the videogames, either. That ability was Tails' and his alone.

Makes sense, though; no hero is interesting without some sort of weakness.

  • Maybe because AoStH and Sonic X is not linked to each other? The only time you'll ever see Sonic swim is in AoStH and SatAM (or Archie, I'm not sure). The other series he can't swim for shit.

  • I know that the cactus scene and the underwater part of the second scene were used in 'Untouchable Sonic', but I'm certain I've seen parts of the third scene somewhere before. Maybe used in advertisements? The part where Robotnik gets a pie to the face looks familiar.

  • omg this is amazing. So this is what is was really suppose to be like before they decided to go with satam.

The quality and animation is sooo much better.

  • They didn't drop this concept to go with SATAM. They did both. o_O

  • No, what happened was that when they presented Aosth to ABC they weren't happy with it. So Dic went back and thus that's how Satam came out and why Aosth was instead put on syndication.

  • By the way, why is it called SatAm?

  • This isn't SatAM it's called AoStH ^-^; And the reason it was called SatAM was because it was put on the Saturday Morning slot instead of the Weekday Afternoon slot. And because we couldn't refer to them as [cartoon distributor name]'s Sonic the Hedgehog since they were both made by the same company o_o

    Hope that answers your question

And thanks for putting this up Dvariano, it was really interesting to see ^_^

  • Its called SatAM because Sonic was on Saturday Morning, getit? is Sat - AM(moring) ;3

  • So people call it "Saturday Morning"? Not very specific.

  • No, a shortcut for saying sonic on saturday morning.

  • Why not call it "Sonic SatAm"?

  • That could work ^_^

  • I like how the pilot is better than the actual cartoon turned out to be. It actally has something in common with the game, unlike the cartoon. Sonic is running, there are Badniks, the backgrounds resemble stages in the games and Sonic's spin formation is more accurtate to the game. Even the colour and animation is better here. Now this would have been a show worth watching.

  • YAY DVARIANO IS BACK

    ...Kind of. >_>
