  • top band...very under rated...despite having some of the best selling singles of all time

  • JUST FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

  • well said devon boy this a feckin top tune.

  • this is there greatest song ever, this is better than Geno or There There My Dear

  • Awesome tune, I played this more than Geno when I bought the single :)

  • dont just like this tune i love it! classic dexys, easly made a side. thankyou potbellypete.

  • WOW this takes me back in the day.

  • Geno on the A side & Breaking down the walls of heartach on the B side What a buy! Could be said it was a, AA side single.

  • Should have been an A side, I even prefer it to the original!

  • This record taes me back to 1980 and the best period ever.

Shame I missed them when they played at Chelmsford.Boo Hoo!!!!

Ah the drink,Spurs Home and away bla bla bla this record says it all.

  • I grew up with the Johnny Johnson version but this is a cracking cover and Dexy's brass section is as ever outstanding.

  • sound like they had such a good time recording this, fucking amazing sound

  • sound like they had such a good time recording this, fucking amazing sound

  • Youth Club Disco - Monkey Boots and Fred perry.

  • did it actually HARM them (& Kev esp.) to get a US Billboard no.1 with "Come ON Eileen"? Perhaps it did. Did it make Kev rich enough to live on the royalties for life? dunno. He did a lot of drugs and struggled to be taken seriously after that. But I find their decline a little difficult to understand, I confess.

  • @jasonpfinch Being afraid of constantly repeating himself didn't help, that and the way he promoted their last major album didn't help.

  • it's a brilliant cover and, yes, better than the pretty decent original.

  • its one classic tune and cover ......good on them!

  • Very good, when I first heard Dexy's version I though they were singing about Hoylake.

  • Brilliant tune in about '86 when I used to go to the local mod night near where I lived

  • Fab tune in '86 at a local mod club I used to go to

  • It still comes as a shock what a magnificent singer our Kev was.

  • love this , still sounds so good ..

  • whats wrong with you people for f__ks sake it,s a top tune, dexys top band wish they were round now instead of this present shit??????

  • Takes me back to college 20 years ago, drink and drugs before calming down. Sort of.

  • class.. simple as..

  • I heard this version before the original ...IMHO better than the original .

  • @welshiethepotter : I agree, it's rare that a sould cover exceeds the original, but this does.

  • Was this song the B side to Gino???

  • yeah it was,the bside to geno late night feelings indeed

  • Pure Class x

  • wow not herd this 4 a real long time!! love it

  • Got be the Bandwagon for me and then Edwin Starr but this was a good attempt.

  • I love the Bandwagon's version, too, but I think I slightly prefer this one; it's a tough decision, though!

  • WOLVERHAMPTONS FAVOURITE SON!!!

  • big up wolvos soul rebs

  • this song got me through my basic training in 87, always had my walkmam on playing this,

  • Everyone to thier own opinion.

  • Slow Down Slow Down... You are both right. Johnny Johnson (Direction) & Edwin Starr (Motown) have both recorded this track.

Now Shake hands and shut up

    The thing from planet Z

  • Now lets not have a slaggong match. "Breakin' Down The Walls Of Heartache", was a major UK hit in 1968 for Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon. Edwin Starrs was a cover vision.

  • Motown? You don't even know that it wasn't Motown you joker!!!

  • northern soul

  • I love the way Dexys songs other than Eileen are real serious music fans songs and you dont have to wade through miles of inane or insulting comments!

  • IT's called SOUL

    O

  • really reminds me of being about 14... loved it and had a massive crush on kevin !

  • id forgotten about this tune from my youth, id loved it then also geno, oh school days!

  • By saying it isn't half bad, I mean it is pretty good!

  • I remember this as being on the b side of Geno. I've got it somewhere. On hearing it again, it isn't half bad. ktf

  • Thanks for posting this from the Dexy''s best era in my opinion the brass sound is great things were never as good during the dungree era.

  • i'm one of the few american s i know who is aware they did more than come on eileen, to me this is more soulful than anytthing motown has even come close to doing in over 25 years

  • brilliant. x

  • AT LAST!! Cheers man,i got this on vinyl but its scratched to buggery,& the live one ive got on cd isnt as corking as this! What a tune to throw away on a b-side eh-very nearly as good as the original-ta again.

  • takes me back to my earlier years!! just f*cking amazing.

  • Thanks for your comment, it was the B side track for Geno.

  • Brilliant!

    Genius!

    Thanks for posting this...

Where is this cover from? A B side or somesuch, i know it's not on any of the albums.

I always thought if Dexy's had done a Northern cover album it would have been the best album ever made.

    Genius
