Duff is actually left handed but plays a right handed guitar, must have been hard to overcome but he does it so well. Incredible band, I wish Steven could have sorted himself out like Slash and Izzy did. Once he went GN'R went downhill, in my opinion at least.

by the way, slash says that duff was only an alcoholic in the old days but duff has said that he also did a fair amount of cocaine.

slash did portray musical differences as a complete make or break thing in his 1994 interview- he said no way would he allow changes in the band's sound. this is a clearly categorical statement.

as for axl thinking he was the only imp member in the band, slash HIMSELF admits that for 2 years after he quit GNR, axl kept trying to get him back.

firstly everyone didnt go at the same time or for the same reason. steven was fired by the whole of GNR in 1990 because his heroin addiction took over his life and made him useless.

izzy left in 1991 citing a number of reasons including slash & duff's crazy drug abuse. izzy had cleaned up & couldnt be around such behaviour.

slash left in 1996 & his stated reasons have changed constantly. in 94 he said he had strong musical differences with axl, in 2007 he said this wasnt a big deal.

You must remember that another reason izzy left was because of Axl being a dictator and always late for shows... And duff wasnt doing drugs, he was only an alcoholic... And just cuz slash said in 94 that he had strong musical differences with axl, it doesnt mean it was a reason he left... Slash has alwas said the reason he left the band was because of axl being a overcontroling dictator, who thought he was the only imortant part in the band...

it wasnt as simple as that. not just axl but also slash complained about izzy being disconnected from the band. he said that he had to re-record izzy's parts on UYI because izzy didnt put in much effort. it was this problem that axl was trying tofix. as for axl being a dictator, josh todd worked with VR as their frontman pick at the beginning and he noted exactly what axl had earlier- its a case of too many cooks spoil the broth with those guys. someone had to exercise some control.

also, duff said in 96 that the album the old GNR line-up was working on (before they split) was to have no ballads.

this clearly shows that axl was going by what the other guys wanted because he himself is known to have a love for ballads & slash/duff are on record for opposing them.

duff also says that when he quit GNR in 97, axl tried very hard to convince him to stay & offered him loads of money.

if axl thought that he was the only imp guy in GNR, why would he do this for slash &duff?

by the way, slash has been in 3 bands and each time he has feuded with his frontman and attacked them in the press (axl in GNR, rod jackson in Snakepit and scott weiland in VR). coincidence?

duff left in 97 saying he was to become a dad &wanted to start a new life & since GNR's line-up was now so different, the old days were gone. in interviews duff has defended axl saying hes a loving guy.

Chinese Democracy is a rock record with a variety of sounds. in this way its quite similar to Use Your Illusion which wasnt a straight forward rock n roll record either.

musicians grow & experiment-look at slash's version of paradise city with cypress hill & fergie. is that rock n roll?

Meanwhile the rest of the band are still meeting up and playing music with each other. From the outside looking in it looks like Axl is the one pushing everyone away to do what he wants.

why is "making appearances" with the old guys an answer to anything? axl has moved on. many of the newGNR members have been around longer than the old guys. those are axl's band members & it makes sense to focus on them-the present rather than the past.

as for the other guys "meeting up", slash & izzy's relationship already became difficult by the time of the UYI album. meeting casually once in a while doesnt change anything- theyre no longer band members & havent been in a long while.

till 2000 matt was still begging axl in interviews to take him back-he wouldnt do that if axl was too painful to work with.

duff, matt & slash started Velvet Revolver in 03. they had been in other bands after GNR and knew that their only chance at being taken seriously again was to be in a band together. this is a survival tactic, a business arrangement.

the human dimension of the relationship was very tense as slash admits in his book. now he says that he was always miserable in VR.
