i think this song is included for the soundtrack of 'the laramie project' ... beautiful song, alnis is so ahead of her time always has been... thank you much for the post
Where are the images of Muslims who bury women up to their necks before stoning them to death; who have perpetuated the execrable cultural practice of mutilating little girls through female circumcision; who have committed "honor killings" against daughters deemed too independent by Muslim fathers; who have punished “uppity” women by cutting off their ears and lips; and who have thrown acid on the faces of elementary school girls to discourage the girls from pursuing an education. No outrage?
@rockyracune Of course there's outrage for that! There are hundreds of womens/human rights organizations working on those despicable issues. But what you must understand is that America is privileged in a way. We act and the world watches. We need to act like humans and start loving each other instead of the old mighty dollar. War is not the answer. Collective humanity is. This song is meant to raise awareness around our own apathy and ignorance of thinking we are better than everyone else.
@rockyracune And please dont hand me this America has done so many great things for so many people world over....because we haven't. We pay lip service to human rights; we haven't even ratified the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from the UN. War makes money for the super wealthy few. The Peace Corps funding was just cut in half so we could beef up our already ridiculous military budget. America could be doing a LOT more to make this world a better place.
It would have been great and appropriate if she had THANKED THE GOOD PEOPLE OF AMERICA just once for saving the world over and over again from freedom's enemies. Think of all the men who died fighting in World War I and World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and throughout the world; and think of how America has poured trillions of dollars of its treasure into lessening human suffering in faraway places after natural disasters. Thank you, America. Gratitude is a wonderful thing.
@rockyracune Where's your gratitude? America owes everything its become, including and certainly not limited to, its political system, food, religion...everything is owed to other cultures. We are a melting pot of all people; America is for humans. Id rather pledge allegiance to the Earth and all the people on it then this false notion of American Exceptionalism. Please LISTEN to what she is saying. Ever heard of the Venus Project?
@lunaangel56 I love this song. Literally EVERY single lyrics makes an incredible point and its accurate to some extent. Its a sad American culture we live in when this song has 703 views and Justin Bieber's 'Baby' has 500 million.... I will live my life everyday waking up America because the world wont change if we the privileged few don't set an example. If we don't give peace a chance, then peace doesn't stand a chance.
