  • no, bastebevolimja, once again you are mistaken. It is true that I laughed when I read your comment, hence the letters "lol". But you imply that I laugh without reason, or that I laugh with malicious intent. This is not true. I laugh because your views, though well-intentioned, are so very wrong.

    (Note to the public audience;

    bastebevolimja and I have had long debates regarding religion)

    You insist on ignoring the evidence, on believing in your dogma. In my humble opinion, that is foolish.

  • lol bastebevolimja, I think you've just summarized the difference between me and you.

  • Good vid man, some (most) of it is beyond me but still good listening.

  • thanks for watching. =)

  • I love your videos, in part because you remind me of me thirty years ago. Every generation of thinkers struggles with this stuff, and it can get very intense. Sadly, it doesn't seem like there is any easy way to simply accept what previous generations have learned and apply it (outside of the practical stuff). I guess that's where dogma serves a purpose. It allows us to cohere. But in today's age of superlative information dogma has a hard time appealing to young people. Which is good!

  • yay for the downfall of dogma!

    And yes, dogma does encourage coherence, which can be beneficial. But in the end, freethinking is better.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Free thinking is important, but it has to be balanced by a need to get on with other people. I am often accused of being disloyal because I do not stick to my guns. Part of free thinking is that you are always open to new and opposing ideas. You can never be sure that you have it all figured out because at any time some seemingly insignificant snippet of new information can trigger a whole series of life changing revelations. This has happened to me many times, but it drives my friends crazy!

  • Facts are stupid things, as one of your greatest leaders once said. lol I no longer accept what anyone says at face value regardless of their credentials. Just because someone has a PHD and wears a lab coat doesn't mean that their science is any good. If the science isn't based on a double blind test, it's probably not science but a kind of legitimised dogma. The scientific method is sound up to a point, but often whet is labelled as science is nothing of the sort.

  • Swine flu! Haha. I caught that, too. Not as bad as all the media hype, eh?

    About polyamory (sp?): people tend to be jealous. I think that it a) won't work as well as traditional marriage, and b) will have a detrimental effect on society as a whole, if accepted on a large scale.

    Just my two cents on that. I don't think I'm falling back on dogma with that opinion, because I questioned the norm before deciding that the norm is the best.

    Good vid, though, as per usual.

  • Thanks for your comment.

    With regards to polyamory, jealousy is definitely a problem, but it's not an insurmountable problem. Polyamorists emphasize openness and honesty, to prevent jealousy from setting in.

    Newsweek did a story about polyamory (link in the sidebar), and they found people who appear to be quite happy with it.
