  • this really helps.

  • thank you for this video!

  • I am surprised so many people that apparently know ballet cannot see that these are the basic positions des bras of the French school of ballet, it is not the Cecchetti method, so she did not leave anything out, and it is not Russian style so she did not include anything extra...it is FRENCH.

  • people shut the fuck,, people watch this for their passion for ballet so dont talk about her and her wrong teaches

  • oh good god i hope nobody is actually listening to this woman.

  • *thanks for the nice videos it is very helpfull it reminds me my ballet class and instructor ;)

    more power and God bless

  • CAN EVERYONE READ THE INFO BAR?? IT SAYS NEOCLASSICAL NOT CLASSICAL SO IT SHOULD BE A BIT DIFFERENT!! STOP GIVING RUDE COMMENTS ABOTU THE LADY!!!

  • i like how most people are giving her grief for this, why do you all try to make out you're all better dancers than herself? these videos are great, especially for someone with curves, i've done ballet for pretty much all my life now, since i was little, and i have curves, i think that she has got great confidence to get these videos out to people who can't go to classes and want to learn ballet, it's a beautiful dance, ignore there comments on her videos. Well done.

  • Dear Lord, PLEASE make sure this woman never tries to teach pointe!!

  • thankyou for these videos they are really useful

  • ur video helped me alot! thnx for uploading them! :DD

  • are y'all blind?? the video has FOR BEGINNERS not for "ADVANCED" or ppl who THINK they know it all!!!!!! if u have nothing good to say keep off the girl videos! ugh youtube ppl urk me!!!!!!! thanks for the vid my friend it was very helpful!!

  • Wow everyone on here feels like they have to be critical of her just to make themselves seem like better dancers (...)

  • @BOOMPOWbethany i totally agree with u... they're so sickening!! stupse

  • what was that shit meant to be... Ballet? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!

  • well...it's not quite correct...

but i'm also wondering why she doesn't tondu to each position..she just slides her feet?

  • What's with the jazz hands? This is ballet!!

  • Forgive me for saying so, but these videos are quite dreadful; these demonstrations are sloppy and imprecise, hence incorrect.

  • I love these videos, they have helped me with my beginner ballet, correct or not of any style, I like it and have used the knowledge gained from this series to create my own ballet/pole fusion class. Its inspirational that a curvy woman would put herself out there in an ignorant and judgmental lions den such as youtube just to get instruction to us that can't go to class, for what ever reason. I appreciate it and applaud her!!!!

  • from second to third position, the arm is supposed to pass through fist position. everything is supposed to pass by in front of you belly button.

  • are you trying to do ballet....????

  • lol xjackbx you were very nice to her, but her "great start" came from 24+ years of training. yeah. if she'd been dancing for a couple years i would let it slide.

btw, people saying the fifth and third positions are messed up is interesting. i'll need to look that up. is it like, varied among different styles? cecchetti vs vaganova or something?

  • to add on to your comment...

Every1 need to remember that the Arms vary the styles Cecchetti, Vaganova, Royal Academy of Dance(English method), Balanchine(American method). I assume that this is suppose to be example of Cecchetti method...

I understand every1's comments, but many dancers have not been trained in more than one method.

  • Yeah i dont think thats quite how u do it. and that waz not third that was more like fith.

  • i don't think she was bad at all!

    she is really quite good.

  • I'm speechless D:

  • omg look how her fingers are spread in her 'fourth' position. and her 2nd, those arms :S . i'm 13 and i have been dancing sinds i was 5 years old at an unprofesional ballet studio and even a do better :S ( i know my english isn't to good but i'm dutch)

  • um what is with her second position? and she really needs to make her fifth look la lot less like third than it does. this needs to go.

  • wooow u ppl need 2 calm down wid ur criticisim mn sheeesh so wat her 3rd is ur 5th or w.e hu cares ballet iz ballet gossh

  • when the arms are in forth and fifth, your thumbs aren't soposed to be shown.

  • I have been dancing my entire life, and I have never used that as a third position. Her " fifth" is my third, and when she goes to fourth you can see how spread apart her fingers are. And wtf is she listening to. AND OMG WE DONT WANNA SEE YOUR BACK TOES ON YOUR FIFTH. What company has this women been dancing with for " 24" years

  • @shallcrosstheroad The Helen Keller School of Dance it seems.

I think people are getting heated up about this because she has a ton of videos on here proclaiming they are for beginners. However, her skills are flawed in areas and a beginner could see this, try it and because lack of proper instruction hurt themselves.

  • I swear that wasn't third position :S

  • okay, i think u need to employ someone else, ur third is more or less fifth, and ur foot was parrelel, ur 'fifth' wasnt a fifth, and ur first position with ur arms were too far apart.

and before anyone gives me crap, ive been dancing since i was five for ten years, and im in grade 6 ballet and inter foundation, i think i know what i'm talking about!!!!!!!

  • how about her back never being straight.. how she keeps pulling her pants down so we dont see her tendue... and ofcourse her hips ..

  • where has connie hale been dancing for 24+ years is what i would like to know

these videos should not be up here!

  • omg....lol..... you're right

  • she very turned in and her arms are 2 far back in fifth. my 9 year old sister can do better

  • I don't get it... I am a ballet teacher! My 8 years old can teach the positions better than this! And what is this music on the backround??? Ballet is an art.. And I suppose you got paid to do these videos on something that you surely don't have the knowlege of.

  • ok arms need to be longer in each positions second position arms should open wider (no in-between) o and in fifth, cover the toe so its different than third :) try to use the turn out that you have to your best extent. you have a great start. :)

  • Worst freaking port de bras I've ever seen

  • Please, DELETE THIS VIDEO. And all of the videos about ballet you have posted. They are ridicoulous and the informations are TOTALLY wrong. OH MY FUCKING GOD, you are just KILLING ballet!! It makes me so angry to see how idiot you are, you can't teach if you don't know!

  • thank you

  • ohhh that just isn't right.

  • Omg, her arms are just all over the place. One one of the positions, cnt remember which 1 it is.. lol she looks like a bouncer! god! Ballerinas are supposed tuu b petite! not way half a tonne nd her body language is just terrible! xx

  • I'm sorry, but her weight has nothing to do with anything. yes, her arms are not correct, but i can tell you that ballerinas do not have to be "thin", they need passion, and a desire to grow as a dancer. If anything, she should be applauded for keeping on with ballet because she loves it so much.

And yes, I do do ballet, but i'm definitely not petite.

  • Well said about the weight and passion for ballet. You are correct, weight shouldn't be an issue but sadly in most companies it is, wellknown fact. No one should be stopped from dancing if they love it. But honestly, these videos are NOT the best guide how to learn ballet. It should be taught in person, not from a DVD/video, as you can actually injure yourself. And many things they show here is not correct.

  • @silentorchestra100 You are absolutely right. Her weight has absolutely nothing to do with it.

  • @silentorchestra100 fuck yea ha ha

  • @silentorchestra100 i feel ya i get teased about the same DAMN things!!!!

  • wheres your turnout? did it run away with your brain?

  • The 3rd and 4th positions are wrong! The 3rd is the fourth mentioned in the vid and the fourth in the vid is called crossed fourth

  • amazing.....i'm not joking!!!!!

.....she should become a real ballet dancer with this basics..WOW

    ^^

  • HORRIBLE

  • her first position arms are WAY too low! also her scond positon arms are too close together!

  • I'm not sure where to start ballet at a beginner level at 18.

not to mention i hav work during the week, am in honors and AP classes, bout to go to college, and split any free time between a bf and a best friend ..

i guess I'm wondering if it's worth finding time for?

Whenever i watch dancing i think that could have been me and i hate that.

  • Find out if your college has a basic dance class for the theatre department. Most theatre majors have to take dance and many have never danced before. You also move much faster in the college courses. 2 years and you will be in an advanced ballet college course if you keep up with it. A friend of mine had never danced before she was 18 and they let her en pointe 4 years later.

Any way, ask your college advisor if the theatre dept has dance classes.

  • heh yea i definately didnt think of that, i would feel a lot more comfortable in a class that wasn't full of professional ballerinas

    thank you =]

  • Oh, and this instructor in this video is really not that good, Look at the stuff from the Anaheim Ballet. They have a few good tip vids that can help you get back into shape for ballet and they are amazing dancers.

  • Don't give up. Alvin Ailey started dancing when he was eighteen. You can do it.

  • hello, i used to be in ballet and tap when i was 7, i stopped dancing and returned to it at 12 with lyrical, was on my middle school's dance team, and i did hip hop at 14

i havnt dance for over 4 years, i am now 17, and miss it so much

i havnt done ballet for over ten years

i am very interested in returning to it if only as a semi-serious hobby

i was looking at colleges in terms of there dance programs at least at the elective level

i was hoping for suggestions? ideas?

    ... continued..

  • 4th should not be so wide

  • This sooo wrong wrong wrong

    do not watch this please

  • oh lord....very bad arm posture!!!

  • This woman's vids are very poor. Do not watch them as anything but camp comedy. This is not ballet technique.

  • I guess she doesn't believe in 5th en bas. . . .

  • hi im 13 and thinkin of starting ballet ilove it its so graceful my friend goes to dance doctors and i just wondered am i too old now

  • i'm 17 and i'm thinking of starting ballet cause i'm starting to fall in love with it. but is it too late?

  • no it's never too late some people start when they're in college and some even start when they're in their 50's. It's never too late. you'll just have to work hard is all. I should know I just started and I'm 14 and a half. So it's never too late. Watch "anaheim ballet dancer profile: Vanessa Sah" She started when she was in college.

  • Thanks for the suggestion of the vido. it was inspiring=D

  • your welcome =)

  • I hope you find a good studio. Also just some advice is sometimes dance studios will let you in even if your older than the age limit for beginning classes as long as you work hard so you can advance fast. =) So try your best. Good luck

  • no!

    its never to late!

i started at 15 and i thought it was to late, but it really isnt, if you love it go for it! really...

but please, dont take this womans advice... ahaha, she doesnt know what shes doing, watch the anahiem ballet videos...

  • no it's never too late, just don't watch this woman. she knows nothing. NOTHING.

  • the comments on here are hilarious. i feel sorry for her students... some other comments are like "look at that...suck that belly in!...I'd love to see her break ankles on pointe... and the plie video has funny comments. luckily i found other videos to give me some tips

  • AND I HOPE SHE DOES NOT TEACH POINTE! She does not even attempt to lift her center amongst a dozen other things!

  • This gal teaching is why we have so many people who think that they can dance but can not. It is so sad. She probably loves to dance, loves to teach, but received poor teaching and continues the poor teaching on to others. This is really really sad and difficult to watch.

  • that was disgusting... she needs to as 8august108 said, crack open vaganova's book...

  • Her hands a like a big pile of sausages.

They look ugly. And those position are awful.

  • for fourth position, how far apart are your feet supposed to be?

  • you bring your right foot out still in a slight angle and move your left arm in like your holding a ball (: .

  • Her alignment & turnout are baaaaad, and she's hunching her shoulders & not in a wide enough second in the port de bras.

Please don't use this vid as a guide. Get a proper teacher!

  • At 1:10... that isn't 3rd. The heal isn't even close to the inset of the other foot. Tsk, tsk tsk

  • This is just plain flat out wrong. Has she ever even cracked open Vaganova's book???

  • In Russian (Vaganova) method there are four positions of the arms: Prep (arms down), First (same as above) second (Same as above) and Third (what she shows as fifth above). In more advanced levels we add on Small Pose and Big Pose arms. Big Pose corresponds to what she shows as Third above, however she does not show small pose: one arm in first, the other in second.
