@Lego102001 If you're talking about the J class, then I suggest looking into William's by Bachmann J class. It not only comes in the Norfolk & Western, it also comes in Canadian National, Baltimore & Ohio, Santa Fe, Pennsylvania and a few others. Mid priced (about $250) and not very hard to find like MTH's Rugged Rails J class.
wow did i really watch tht whole video? anywasys good job and i got lost when all the trains came to the frozen little people doing work outside... hahaha jk good job making this tho i know absolutely nothing bout trains all i know is a chu chu tain makes call noises tht i can make 2 hahahaha
Could you please get in touch with me at fexturbjet AT AOL dot COM. I am interested in creating a layout about that size but will need to to tap some other's knowledge to do this. Any thing you can offer would be great. I like th esize and nearly the same layout of tracks.
How're yoy running two trains on one track in different directions? In my experience, most electric models either need DCC or RC control to do that (that's why I switched to G-Scale live steam, no complicated electronics needed).
wow. i just got a diesel engine so now im making small layouts with the track i have (not a lot) so i want to get more then put a floor in my attic so i can built some cool layouts like this. i only have 2 engines and about 5 cars so ill need to stock up on those too
I have a question; the first engine that you started running in the video (the name escapes me; it's the one with the bright orange colors)...can that run on 0-27 curves? We have a layout that has both 0-42 and 0-27 curves (the outer loop has 0-42 and the inner loop has 0-27, and they are connected), and while I'm pretty sure we can run that engine on the outer loop, it'd be nice to know if it can run on the inner loop as well. And also the Norfolk and Western, can that run on 0-27?
@ThePerson1256 That engine is the 6-18071 Southern Pacific daylight which is an adaption of the Norfolk & Western J class made in 1957. We used to run a J on 031 radius. I'm pretty sure it would run on 027. The cab will swing way out in the corners. Thanks for asking.
Nicely done. I hope to setup a permanent layout when I move to Tennessee. I like the Southern Pacific daylight, I have one but it has not seen the track yet. What kind of track is that Gargraves? I will be using the old super O which I have about 300 pieces of.
Very nice layout ! My dad worked for the Budd company.... Red Lion division, which produced the first stainless steel passenger cars. As a child I thought he made ALL the trains in the world..LOL. I did love my Lionel train set and still do.
GREAT LAYOUT!.. question, where do u get the rocks that go underneath the tracks? hobby store? or is there a cheaper alternative? i got 3 loops on a 8x11 table, how much u think it'll cost to put that stuff down for the whole thing?
This looks like a very cool layout...you have three loops of which to run trains, and you can do plenty of switch work as well. This is my kind of layout. :)
If I had enough room, I'd over crowd my whole layout too, With different roads etc.
I have about over 50 Lionel Engines and Cars ETC, But, From the MPC era, Their better stuff, But, It's not worth much. I also have MTH, Williams ETC.. All in Closets in my apt. I don't think I'll ever be able to have room for a layout at all.
Could stare at them for hours. Great Layout! And Equipment.
is there any way you could help me out with one! or get me some plans or something cuz i want to have a turn table for my attic layout and it would be awesome! Thanks
@coolpop6307 We can run 4, plus the trolley line. 2 on the outside loop controlled by a automatic block, 1 each on the center, and inside loop. Thanks for the question
We got most of the newer engines off of ebay. You can find good deals on there, especially if you're willing to buy something that's been run. Most of the postwar engines were bought at train meets (York).
very, very, very impressive. Someone posted this might be a bit overcrowded. You can never be overcrowded with trains. And, you gave me some ideas for my existing layout. Nothing like making some changes. Love it!!!!!
Track power , and power to switches is independent from each other. Switches have a constant fixed voltage. While running, timing, and luck play a big part. Thanks for the question.
Well, it may be too late but if ur ever considering noise reduction, i suggest zip ties to secure track. Because they are plastic, they have more give and do not transfer nearly half the noise metal screws do to the layout. just throwin it out there.
I have to say that to date, this is by far, the best o gauge video I have seen. The lay of the layout is perfect and the scenery work is excellent. The switch work while also running main lines was a good mix and very well done. The video itself was well shot and edited. Keep it up, you inspire the rest of us.
Thank you! The locomotives come with their own sound system in the tender. The SF has it in the B unit. When the command control is used there are more sounds available.
The outside line is the only one that has two trains running on it at once. There's a block in the back so if one train starts catching the other it is automatically stopped until a safe distance is restored, then it restarts. We put two trains that run about the same speed at the same voltage on that line. It's easier to do with Command Control but I prefer Conventional operation.
JC2341, do you use TMCC or DCS at all or strictly conventional? Just curious. I'm getting fed up with command systems and thinking about going this route. Thanks.
Most of the time we run strictly conventional. Everything in the video was run conventional. We do use TMCC occasionally when we just want them to run circles and make the cool noises. The track plan is now available. If you have any questions or need help send me an email. Thanks for your interest!
JC2341, thanks. I will check your website for the track plan. These videos have been a real inspiration and source of help. You guys helped me decide on Gargraves and Ross turnouts too!
Excellent job especially if it is set up for all conventional I know first hand all the work that must have been put into it to controll all those trains conventionally, nice work it looks like a lot of fun to run trains on.
We used Lionel tubular. Triple wall cardboard is notched out to lay over the ties on the outside of the track. We just painted the board black in between the rails.
