Back in the 1980's I had the great good fortune to see a dye transfer 35mm print of ONE EYED JACKS at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Technicolor IB process really revealed the beauty of Charles Lang's cinematography as no video version ever could. It gave me a whole new respect for Brando's film and made me very fond of it.
One Eyed Jacks is one of my favorite movies of all time. The writing was unreal. Characters, plot amongst the best. It is #3 on my all time list (behind only the two Godfather movies). Must have seen it over 100 times since it came out. As kids we use to quote the whole movie....
An interesting aside (besides all the stars being dead - Katy Jurado, Slim Pickens, Carl Malden, Brando, Slim Pickens and Jack Elam is that Brandos love interest (Maria Pena) committed suicide at a very early age (early 30's).
This is a great movie. If you haven't seen you need to when you get a chance. It was underappreciated when it was released but it is a great movie with a great cast.
One of my favorite westerns. I like the way Brando (in the script) played up the duality of people's natures, the ambiguity & the way we all put forth different faces when it is in our nature to do so.....excellent movie.
This is my favourite Brando film ever made, beautifully filmed and directed by this brilliant actor. How many people cannot identify with his character who is playing the 'avenging angel' and has wished revenge against those with many sided faces?
I love this movie and have it on DVD. I heard that the sweet actress Pina Pellicer committed suicide because Marlon ended his affair with her. Has anyone else heard that story? She was a beautiful young woman of 30,very sad!
What a haunting theme song. Makes my heart sing.

1:11 Marlon Brando firing a gun while holding it sideways. The coolest guy ever.

All Brando performances are masterpieces.
In a distant era James Cagney was his equal.
