  • Land of the Green Isle? Sounds like Alexander is off to Ireland =D

I completely agree with your assessment of the hi-res character portraits. I think everyone's skin is too pink in them, making it look like everyone has a sunburn. On the other hand, the low-res character portraits use a more natural looking skin color that matches the character sprites much better.

  • I agree i like the old adventure games more then new games.

By the way are you from the Nederlands

  • That's not to say that good voice acting can save a bad game though. I still find Gabriel Knight 3 to be below average at best. Of course Tim Curry totally phones that one in.

  • Jane Jensen FTW!

  • This is an older version than any I've played. For instance, the screen announcing it is "King's Quest VI" in the intro was in 3D and spun "towards the audience."

  • @Nonamearisto

The 3-D spinning title was in the Windows intro. The AVI file is included on the same CD as this version here, but only accessed in Windows mode (just as with the hi-res character portraits and inventory items).

  • shadyparadox has a playthrough of the Windows version.

    watch?v=oxA-DBtEBA4

  • The American narrators voice is v annoying in this game, otherwise it's a gem.

  • Another possibility is that Graham doesn't remember how to get to Serenia since he flew there following Cedric and was more concerned with his missing family than looking at the landmarks on the ground. Therefore he can't help Alexander visit Crispin.

  • How many vids on this LP?

  • didn't shadyparadox do an LP of this game too?

  • I love this game so much.

  • Yeah! Alexander is back in action!

That 3D cutscene actually wasn't too bad. I does look weird and honestly I prefer the talent of the hand painted backgrounds because they looked the most real, organic, warm, and inviting.

  • When I played these games as a kid our computer actually had a roland.. Always wondered why I was never able to get it to sound the same when I was older.

  • I really agree about the lower resolution portraits being better. This is the version I originally played, so it could be just a bit of nostalgia there, but the others just look weird to me.

I can't wait to watch this! I actually played through it myself for the umpteenth time a few weeks ago, but it will be interesting to see you go through it as well.

  • Take the shiny! Take the shiny! Take the shiny!

  • The humor in this game is not understated at all, Alexander sadly has inherited the bad swimmer gene from his dad, but I really enjoyed the game as even the death scenes were well done.

  • Okay, Cedric bashing aside, I'll be interested to see how you approach this game considering there are multiple endings for this. And I for one don't feel that resolution alone should dictate whether one version of the game is better or worse than another.

  • I recall you liking KQIII a lot too, which starred the same protagonist.... what is it with Alexander's luck with staring in the good KQ games?

Also, I almsot expected you to slip in a "This has been Let's Paly King's Quest 6. See you tomorrow when we play King's quest 7" after the ship wrecked.

  • this game was great, the actual King's Quest game - until VII and VIII - that I actually finished. The Silver Lining is phenomenal as well

  • Didn't King Graham say he had heard of the Emerald Isles?

  • Happy day, oh happy day!!! :D

  • My favorite.

  • The opening graphics remind me of Lands of Lore 3's cutscenes and the music slightly reminded me of the same music quality from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past; both great games. Ah, nostalgia, can hit you any time. :)

  • This game came out BEAUTIFULLY! I like this one the best by far. I guess KQ games do the opposite of what movies do. Movie series tend to release a total flop every 3 installments, whereas KQ releases one of its best installments every 3 games. (KQIII was the best of the first-gen KQ games, and KQVI was the best of the EGA/VGA era KQ games.)

  • Eh, I don't think the 3D intro is *that* out of place. Though it is clear it was Sierra's way of showing off. :P

It's good Cedric isn't joining us. On the subject of sidekicks, Cedric was nothing to Crow about.

  • Wow talk about a graphical update 0_0 that intro was pretty beautiful for 1993. and so far the voice acting is pretty good so far. There lucky to have that magic mirror, its helped them out quite a bit.

  • @damaster4u It helps that they had actual voice actors for this game, rather than random Sierra employees. For example, Alexander is voiced by Robbie Benson, who also voiced Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. :)

  • Have you watched the Kings Quest 6 recut Machinima video, very funny.

  • @rl1712 Yep, only downside is, it makes it very hard not to snigger at certain parts of the game... "Good day, Merchant." "I am a shopkeep!"

  • @Dilandau3000 Or what about the bits with the ferryman haha
