I agree with you on this. In the dojo I work out at we have sparring gear that consist of head gear, gloves, mouth guard and grawin protection. We enforce self-controle and take care of one another. On the street it is another story. The use of pads are not going to be with you on the streets and your apponant is not going to give you the time to put on your pads; plus working with out pads will make you stronger I think, you will know what to expect.
@senseipopeye333 yes. we do full contact and one of the most important things is to learn to just move forward and learn to take that kick or punch. of course getting striked to head isnt encouraged since its a bad habit and destroys the brain.
oh cool i just starting karate at the U.F.A.A (united fighting arts association) on thursday and today's monday (4/4/11) and i just saw some sparring i could only watch cuz they said i was too new which i was and it was pretty interesting like they said mohe or something to start the fight and then to end moho or something like that it was pretty cool
I'm training Okinava Shorin Ryu Suibukan and i think sparring is the best learner for street fight. The martial arts are used to protect yourself or someone.
The katas are very good, they help you with the speed of the punch or kick, but in real fight there is no way the kata's will save you.Maybe will help you ,but not save you.
I've never worn that gear. I wear just a helmet, shinguards, footguards, and gloves. It would probably help perfect a pinch to the stomach and ot sides as to not look messy but... Idk... I'm only a purple belt in karate/muy tai
Interesting video. Not to be rude, but in reality all the padded items are not needed.. One can put the same moves an just touch to good use as long as you train your self to have control.
Just giving you some idea's and what not. Hope you don't take any offence to it.
We feel it's good to exchange knowledge with other martial arts shool's. So just trying to give input.
in a real fight one is not focused on technique as long as they know the movement. kata is a set pattern of movement that have no value in a real fight.
@Magyar126 if no one is focused on technique, then what's being thrown will have no strength. technique and efficiency is what separates martial artists from any street fighter
@boyjones1223 its a matter of performing it but not performing properly, it is not nessecary to perfect an attack while in combat. it has to be without thinking, its not based just on speed or strength etc... when attacking a person using minimal strength and energy and using it only when needed can over power anyone.
how else will they learn, this is not repetitive training it is thier choice what they do and give them confidence in certain situations. I hate classes that give excersise on certain things like doin katas. its pointless.

All of these videos on youtube of this are a JOKE. This beginner or not is pathetic. I'm sorry, but this is not even suitable for white belts. As fghdddj has pointed out, you don't give people the habit of going for one arm. They could come in with the other one, such as in boxing. Why do you think they come in with there weakest arm forward? Quick jabs strong punch. Don't put things like this on youtube because your ruining the best part of Karate for younger people deciding to join Karate.-20*
@XxTheMetalxX LOL YOUR A FUCKING WHITE KID THAT MAKES VIDEOS ABOUT POTATO SHOOTERS. What the fuck do you know? Why don't you make a fucking better video then?
Even if its beginner shit you dont give people the habit of going for one arm because what if whilst your sparring they use the other arm or come in with quick jabs maybe kicks it gives them a false sense of sparring you should also be coming in with attacks and seeing how they cope with it
taylor lautner does this :D x

fghdddj and XxTheMetalxX, this is a drill to develop distance and timing skills. It's not to learn how to spar. It is a drill.
