  • 2IHEARU Yeah! Went yesterday morning and have been prescribed about 25 days of Steriods to take, they said they do Steriods or Anti-Virus as the research hasn't found using both makes too much of a difference. I'm not sure, just going by what they say :)

My eye actually appears to be not too bad, can close it, just very lightly.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • Thanks for the video.. Just woke up this morning with Bells Palsy. Doctor recommends I might need to wear an eye patch at night to keep it closed, so this has helped alot. Thanks again.

  • @Jonny671 ...please take good care of your eye while your eye-lid is still not functioning properly! XOXO I'm glad my video helped!

  • @Jonny671

I have Bell's Palsy too it sucks, lol. I have had is since Dec. 2011. Have you gone to the Dr. yet? If not you need to, as you need to get on steroids and valtrex (anti-viral) also buy some really good gel eye drops and start using them. Let me know. Praying for you. ;0)

  • Jst Pray. Put Yuhr Faith In God And Everything Will Be Okay.

  • @FitGirl15 I'm almost FULLY RECOVERED my face is almost straight when I'm smiling I can blink both and I can lift my eyebrows together TNX. for all the vids.

  • So I got the diagnoses of BP today. They said it was mild and that it should clear up within a week with the corticosteroids they gave me. The left side of my face is the one effected, but it's caused a reaction on the right side. So my left eye blinks and closes just fine, but the right doesn't. Do I have to manually blink my right eye all day? Is it absolutely necessary to have that lube at night? My doc at the er didn't give me a lot of info. I need help understanding all this.

  • @Teazer360 YES! Manually blinking is the only way to keep that eye lubricated... well, unless you buy Lacri-lube and apply it to your eye during the day, like I did. It affects your vision, but better then constantly touching your eye! (Ewww... germs!)

If you do not tape and lube your eye before bed, you run the risk of it staying open all night and a) drying out or b) poking your eye with something causing permanent damage!

For the cost and effort, please do lube your eye before bed!

  • @FitGirl15

Thank you! I have awful vision anyway, so I might not even notice the lube stuff. I might just try that because I have poked myself several times today already from manually blinking it. This sucks, but I am happy as pie to know there are others out there that understand me and know what to do and I can turn to them. I can only hope none of this is permanent.

  • My eye dr. has suggested that he take a couple of stitches in the outer corner of my drooping eye to: 1) lift up the lower lid and 2) create less distance for the upper lid to cover while winking/blinking. Has anyone ever had this done?

  • @lelblair First of all, how long have you had Bell's Palsy? This sounds like a pretty EXTREME option in my opinion.

  • Thanks for the help. I woke up in the morning today with BP :/ I was wondering how i would sleep.

  • I am 11 yrs. old I have BP thank god that I can close my eyes partially but my smile was very very terrible everyone tells me that I look funny but I always laugh. When I felt this I looked at the mirror and I was shocked at my FACE!!! I hope you get better. GWS!

  • @rjreyes15 Im glad your eye isn't fully paralysed! But sounds like you still should get some rest to recover!

Be patient! You will heal from this!

  • Thanks for the great video. I had a cranial nerve removed due to brain cancer. I have a condition similar to bels palsy. I have no feeling in my eye, but get horrible nerve pain. The recurrent corneal abrasion hurt really bad. I will try this technique. Thanks again!

  • Damn , second day here. 17 years old and bell's palsy.. Horrible! At least i can shut my eye partially, thank god for that.

  • @jt5455 im 13 and i got this to...... I strees about it so much and i rlly do hate it but my doctor said its only for a month.

  • @JBhawt12 SOME cases last only a short time, others last longer! The more you stress about it, the longer it will last!

Get lots of sleep and it will be gone before you know it! XOXO

  • This was excellent! I'm on Day 11 and will see an eye doctor this afternoon for more advice.

  • @lelblair Good Luck, this should get you started!

  • im in day 8 and this video is very helpful THX

  • I'm 14 and I also got it I hate it

  • @jr5455 How are you doing? Get lots of rest and take care of your eye!!! You will be fine!

  • im 14 i got this 2 days ago its not that bad but they said it might get bad after a coupel days so i hope it stays not as bad as it is

  • @skater1303753 How have things been for you? Are you seeing improvements?

Get lots of rest and take care of your eye!!!

  • @FitGirl15 well i can close my eye when i sleep so i never had to tape it shut its showers that are the tricky and it is getting better i dont have to push it to blink like i used to its just the rest of my face is still pretty bad

  • Thank you for the information. I was diagnosed last wed. with it. But I seem to have a really bad case of it. the first two days my words were really bad. I still have a hard time speaking but going to therepy and doing my excercises. and using a face massager feels better. and yes I have poked my eye out a couple of times...so I now tape it. did you have problems with the sunlight and your eye? I have to tape it when I go out cause the sun tends to irritate it

  • @MsGabbyNichole Yes, SUN, wind, everything really irritated my eye when outside! I actually bought a pair of sunglasses that were goggles (they fit close to the face, with a foam seal around my eyes... I got them from a motorcycle store!) Surprisingly they didn't look too stupid on! I looked like a biker chick! ;)

You will recovery again this time, just KNOW that!!! XOXO Keep on resting and recovering!

  • YOUR AMAING AND LOVELYY

  • Hi FitGirl15! I was just diagnosed with BP 2 days ago. Mine is on the right side of my face but seems identical to what you experienced in your early video, which BTW thank you so much for them and this one in particular. I've seen your progress and you look amazingly recovered. Again, thanks!

  • @gpferro01 You are welcome! I'm glad this video was helpful to you! I had to tape my eye for 18-19 weeks... hopefully you will recover faster!!!

    Good Luck!!!

  • I’m really glad that it worked out for you. I’ve had Bell’s Palsy for one month now. It’s crazy that the most important thing we have to deal with (protecting the eye) is the one thing that the doctors don’t provide any information on. I had to go to my friend that is a nurse in Neurosurgery to show me how to tape my eye. :)

  • @lynnp04 It's true, I got very little guidance about taping my eye shut.... this is how I just started doing it for my own comfort... today (almost 12 months later) my eye is doing wonderfully!!!

  • FitGirl15... You should NEVER put tape over your eye like that. PLEASE consult with your doctor or an ophthalmologist. It only takes one thin strip of tape to hold the eye shut. The tape should never cover the cornea or it could cause serious damage. Place the thin strip of tape on the center of the upper eyelid, tape it down at an angle towards the nose. You can use a second thin strip of tape starting on the center of the upper eyelid, taping down at an angle towards the ear.

  • @lynnp04 This is how I taped my eye shut for 18 weeks and I never had a problem! I can see your concern though, what if the tape lets go and the eye comes in contact with the tape? Luckily for me, that never occurred!

Wouldn't it be nice if the medical doctors who send us home with tape for our Bell's Palsy eye showed us the PROPER way to apply it safely?

I don't tape my eye anymore, so no more worries!

  • @FitGirl15 i just tape my eyelip to my cheek with abit of black wire tape men mm lol x

  • thank you for the video!

  • thanks for the video! I was just diagnose with BP yesterday, but I'm actually on day 3. They told me at the ER that i needed to tape it shut but last night was kinda rough bc everytime I turned over I almost pulled off my gauze patch. This helped a bunch! How long have you had BP?

  • @GatorTLZ Hey! So glad that this video helped you! I have had BP for 4 months now (actually, 17 weeks) ... I look much better now then I do in this video! It's amazing how much I've improved in the last month alone :)

  • I wish I had seen your video 8 months ago - I had no idea how to tape up my eye! I couldn't keep my eye shut with the tape, so I ended up just using the adhesive eyepatches by Curad.

Luckily I don't have to do it anymore because my eye does shut at night now...and also when I eat, laugh or talk.... oh well, at least I don't have to wear the patch anymore :)

  • I really like this video and would like to see more.

  • or you can just use the one size eye patch from any pharmacy, i bought mine from shoppers drug mart for about $4 and it is washable so it last long time.

  • @mansory00 I also have an eye patch too, but I always hated it because it's too tight and sleeping with it on is almost impossible for me!

  • thank you sooooo much greatly appreciated :) i'm gonna go buy all that stuff now

  • @AniaonFiya I can't wait to see the eye patch you end up buying! Isn't mine so pink, lacey and cute? LOL
