CAN SOME PLEASE HELP ME!

I JUST DESTROYED MY GOOD WORKING SAMSUNG DVD WRITER MODEL TS-H653! I OPEND IT TOOK ALL THE SCREWS OUT SEARCHING FOR THE DIODE..

BUT NOTHING! HOW IS IT POSIBLE! NOT EVEN A HEATSINK! EVEN SEARCHED OFF THE RAIL !!! THE ONLY THINGS THAT WHERE IN THERE WHERE MIRRORS AND LENSES LEADING TO WHERE THE DIODES SHOUD BE BUT THERE WAS ONLY A PRINTPLATE WITH A PEACE OF GLASS ON IT!

burning a dvd means an other thing than cutting plastik...

for this effect you need an optic / a lens...

@einHOCHaufWISEGUYS the dvd burner has plenty of optics inside. it doesn't melt the plastic because it's transparent and non-absorbent. the laser is actually directed to the chemicals on that fine reflective film. the output is controlled by the circuitry inside so the power delivered does just the right amount of damage to inscribe data.

this is probably more than 100 mW. at 3 V, a red laser diode like this usually pulls around 300 mA which gives it 150-200 mW optical power.

You can actually own a laser over 5mw in the U.S. for one... make one or two buy a 5 mw one and fill out the variance to get a better class one as soon as the U.S. knows your smart and not a terrorist they let you have the goodies =)

actually in the U.S you could use any mw you want *** they never banned laser from the us i went to a web site and it said sent to us uk asia au and any place that has UPS

man you should be warning people that playin with lasers will blind them b4 they can even blink you needa use eye protection when fucking around with them things especialy when its that powerful i am guessing thats runnin at about 120mw or sumet around that region...

Hey ppl.PLAYING WITH LASERS CAN GIVE YOU PERMANENT VISION SPOTS IF YOU'RE STUPID.DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!!ok ...with that said...I have been using this laser for 7 months now. both my eyes are fine , and the already used(in the old dvd burner I tore appart) diode is still working despite lack of current regulation and voltage spike protection.

Should put a Driver to that thing.. Your diode will last longer..

I already made it this way so I can't fit the driver there but it didn't die so far...I'll just make a proper one if it dies.

My dad has a small lathe in the basement.The casing is machined from an aluminum rod lying around. No I'm not using resistors but it works fine on NiMh's.

that is because rechargeabale batteries are 1.2 volts in total 2 batts=2.4 volts. the diode is 2.5 volts so it wont burn out aslong as u use rechargabale batts

That's gotta be stronger than 75mW. A friend just bought a 75mW laser and I don't think it can ignite matches, but then, I could be wrong. He has to focus it with a lens just to make it burn something

well it's basicly taking the red laser diode from a DVD burner, power it with 2.5-3 volts, and focus the beam with a lens, just google "homemade laser tutorial" or "dvd laser" you'll get some good tutorials with more details.
