@xiangxiz This is a scene from a movie called Johnny Gets His Gun which is about a soldier who gets blown up and loses his arms, legs, face, ears etc and is trying to communicate with the outside world and has these mental conversations with himself
In order to survive as a nation,we must have war to defend freedom, liberty, and democracy.it's just the fact that we have put ourselfs, and funded so many useless wars,it's unreal.
I have seen and read dozens of portrayals of Jesus....This movie comes closest to the real deal...Also Donald Sutherland's best performance in a history of great performances...
The person who wrote this book was a communist Jew. Surprise, surprise, when world war 2 broke out he withdrew the book because he feared it would convince Americans not to support the war against Germany. Some people even wrote him about being opposed American involvement and he responded by giving them up to the FBI. The writer is just against some wars, when they don't benefit him.
I love how the antiwar message is played throughout the entire film. On the whole, it's blatant, but each individual piece is a subtlety all on it's own... Jesus, manufacturing white crucifixes en masse which are signed for and taken away. Stacks of white crosses in the background, all waiting to be place above a soldiers tomb? the symbolism of Jesus manufacturing grave markers for fallen soldiers makes this scene even more poetic since the conversation is unrelated to what he is building.
I knew this movie was out there, but I totally underestimated the creepiness of it. So many parts of it just downright give me the heebie-jeebies.. like when I first realized Jesus was making crucifixes in this scene.
When you're in a coma;locked inside you're own mind,it looks for ways to confirm itself. You go to places, talk to people, and if you're lucky you even get to go to work or go to the beach.Anything.Anywhere.Anywhere but the void. The funny thing is:there is a struggle for life and consciousness ESPECIALLY when you are UNconscious. You will not look over the edge even if you are teetering on it,because your mind can't let itself and still exist. This scene is spot-on... hard to watch, but great!
I loveeee how jesus plays part of his mind in the movie. in the book i always think hes just talking to himself. but i love the movie where he talks to jesus but its actually just his mind! I LOVE THIS MOVIE/BOOK!
Keep in mind that this is all taking place in the main characters head. Hes praying to what his idea of jesus is. When jesus said that he is basically fucked, it is he who is giving up hope for himself.
I'd love to point out the fact I'm Atheist, but just because Jesus is in this book doesn't make it any less meaningful. That's what's wrong with modern "Atheists", you all fail to gasp any sort of concept of Philosophy. Sure Jesus didn't look like what he does in this scene, but if you think for a damned second, maybe its a manifestation of what most Westerners believe Jesus to look like. To make the receiver more comfortable in his presence.
Great scene. It's rare to ever see Jesus portrayed in his occupation as a carpenter. (My dad said Christian dogma never discussed any details of Jesus on the job, and he'd know better than me about it.) I wanted to reference this scene for a story, in particular, mention what my main character saw in this movie about dreams vs. daydreams.
@xlegitiiwreck Why not ask the thousands of men, women and children who in Africa do so every year? The human body and mind is both strong and resilient and can survive all kinds of trauma, pain and injury.
"When a man buys a lottery ticket you never expect him to win because it's a million to one shot. But if he does win, you'll believe it because one in a million still leaves one. If I'd read about a guy like me in the paper I wouldn't believe it, because it's a million to one. But a million to ONE always leaves one. I'd never expect it to happen to me because the odds of it happening are a million to one. But a million to one always leaves one. One."
The revelation is that he admits the boys plight is so dire, even false hope would be nothing but a cruelty. Jesus being false hope. For some false hope is ok. People that can spend their lives in distraction. That's why 1 world nations are so predominately christian because we spend our time in fantasy regardless.

givin up on the apathy...& the double wat type things...thanks for the recollection per the gap in response. oh & thesinmuststop followed by the o the r lastly g not 2 4get the dot inbetween ..lacking mine but seeing clearer..er ..er. p.s. the K.o.M. pulled of 911, the kennedy & lincoln thing now the onslaught of calvinism scattered about the web. salvation is conditional as most disagree as few will make it. & as for the clnchers past text.. the jesuits say we r past trouble into danger HUH?
By today's standards it's also deemed to harmful for some people to watch..My father can't watch it due to the horrors he has suffered in war. It would, but you must remember this: Humans want to live in a utopia...Not in the reality world of a dystopia.
That is only a handful of people. And the reason most people want to live in a utopia is because they are afraid of the truth. This movie could help show them it.
You seem to fail to grasp reality. Society merely exists to try to satisfy it's utopian needs. Everyone strives for a peaceful society. What you seem to think is that one view of the movie will change the world. It could, but only if people ALLOW it. Most who know what the content is will flat-out refuse to watch it. And remember not everyone has the same tolerance level for graphic material.
That's ridiculous, if people strive for a utopia there would be no such thing as crime. Crime is based from fear and selfishness. Graphic material changes the minds of people to appreciate life. Go watch the movie Clockwork Orange if you want to understand where I'm coming from.
You once again fail to impress me. You obviously have no psychological understanding of the inner workings of the human psyche. You want people to change their minds about their lives...But showing them this movie could either cause psychological disturbances or may make people violent. Now this question goes into play: Are you a Christian who believes that IF people say this ONE clip, they would follow Christianity and "repent for their sins"?
Hell no, everyone who has a scientific grasp of the world knows there is no such thing as god.
If people can not handle truth, they are not even people. Because the one thing separates us from the animal kingdom is our ability to reason. If people are to scared to grasp the message of a brilliant movie, then they should not even be considered human.
You fail to grasp what is human and what is not. Compassion is human..The ability to care for others is human. You demonstrated to me you are contradicting yourself: you seem to have no logical grasp of reason. You are calling half the world's population (or better) "inhuman" because some people don't follow your opinion. I do believe it is a magnificent film...But a film nonetheless.
Humans aren't sheep. More like wolves. We are all members of a pack and we follow each other around, but not blindly. We follow because we choose to follow. Humans aren't generally too different from one another.
Like I said: Humans aren't generally too different from one another. That's why marketing is so successful. If you say a food tastes chocolaty, people will like it NOT because they're sheep, but because chocolate tastes good to most people.
You have got to be one of the most moronic people I have talked to...you completely missed the point and gave a completely irrelevant answer.
There is no doubt people will say something tastes the same, but the life choices they make are heavily influenced by marketing and advertising.
Know what, no. People like you are not even worth trying to reason with, what a waste of a human body you people are. And to think someone could use a good liver.
before everyone gets all judgemental, this appears to be a dream sequence, since when do dreams make sense, they are what they are and you take what u interpret from them
Well we can tell someone's never been taught metaphor.
This part I personally find haunting... Most people in a time of desperation look to whatever religion for guidence. And then for that beacon of hope to turn and say, "It would be cruel to pretend that anyone could help you"
he's just so cute there...ahh...yeah he was young.
I heard they're making a new version of this movie in 2008 and that guy from O.C. will be Joe Bonham...it's quite stupid really-Bottoms is so much better

I definately don't agree with Trumbo's political/religious beliefs (he was a communist), but this is still a very touching film.
