I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice 4OHC Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
The howling & whining sound is coming from the transmission...that's how all Lambo Miuras from the sixties and early seventies sounded like!...who needs a stereo system in one of these masterpieces when you have all these symphonies playing to you like music to your ears!....the top supercar for me of all time!!!
No offense mate but the one time you should have risked the engine's health was when that bloody Honda/BMW thing overtook you .... I'd have just floored it and counted the cost later... :D

Gorgeous sound! True, the gearbox was'nt the best on early Miura's, but the power it put's out more than makes up for it. I drove a '72 Miura SV on the autobahn in Germany, and the clutch & gearbox were great. The added spoiler on the front end solved the front end lift problem. This was THE most incredible car i ever drove: the steering was light and precise, the power was seemless & brutal, and the sound was a glorious sonic assault. If i had the money i'd buy one for sure!

The oversteer issues with the early 911 cars are only issues for people unfamiliar with driving them early 91. They have their own style. I have had 13 of them, and never turned one around in a corner. Back to the Muira: Regardless of the cost, the gearbox is clunky as can seen by hearing the driver shift thru the gears and engage the clutch. Even the engineers at Lambo found it necessary to improve on the gear box in the later models.
And Porsche saw it necessary to completely refine the 911s suspension in 1995 along with a host of other things. You can call it style or whatever you like, but the fact is they are tempermental when driven fast. The 928 and 944 series cars were a far superior platform. Much of the new technology in the 911 was developed on the 928...multi valve heads, 4 piston brakes, rear suspension, etc. Still, a Miura is quite a car and I think I could live with the gearbox.
You clearly have a personal problem with my rightful observations about the Muira. You act like it is a car you own and are belligerently proud of. Grow up and quit being so indignant.
As for Porsche refining the 911 in 1995, you can't be serious. Yes, the need for refinements were so pressing and urgent that they finally got around to it 30 yrs later, after a few hundred thousand cars had been built and the 911 had won practically every race in the world with such a poor design. Witzbold
Not at all Charley...I'm just amused that you even make the statement that the 911S should even be compared to a car like this. As if your 911S is in some way a superior car to the Miura... I've driven plenty of those 911s you talk about. In the hands of the right driver they are fast cars, but they were based on an archaic design born from the original rear engined VW. Just because your beloved 911 has a cult-like following doesn't mean it's No.1. Yes, 1995 was the year the 993 was born...
I think the slow shifting kinda makes it cooler. Kinda like a bolt action rifle. This was like Lamborghini's first good car. I think we can forgive them for a "clunky" transmission. Heck, we are talking about the late 60s and early 70s too. Nobody had gearboxes like today's. Lets just stop slamming cars. They're all amazing and worth it through any of their faults.
Lamborghini early V12's sounds always absolutelu superb. No mather what car is, Islero, Jarama, Espada, Miura, Countach..... NO mather. Always incredible sound.
This car is the first and original supercar, built from 1966 to 1972...the Miura was built simply for the pleasure of driving, nothing more, nothing less!!...an Italian supercar with no excuses!!...I would LOVE to own one of these, especially the later SV version from 1972.
Don't get me wrong [although I'm sure you will], but except for the moments when he's giving it some boot, I could close my eyes and swear I was riding in an old Freightliner with a Detroit Diesel under the hood! And what a racket from all the gears.
The problem with vintage Lambo's was that they were so unrefined in comparison with contemporary Ferrari's.
That being said, I'd love to have a Miura in my garage.

That must be what Heaven sounds like. Folks say that the Countach is the quntesstial Lambo. I have driven one of the Anniversary cars, and loved it for about 20 minutes. The Miura IS the penta Lambo...
Great video. :) It seems to be noisy as hell inside but that whining of the transmission(?) gives me some extra chills. :D Reminds me of some race cars which usually has that same "whining" sound too. And for all the people who are complaining that he's not flooring it down and it's slow; Miura isn't slow in any aspect of performance for a car of it's age! And if you'd own one of those, I think that you'd drive it carefully too. Who wants to take a risk of crashing with a car like that? Really??
One of the best cars for driving. All the noises are a must and are far away from nowadays cars. In this car a radio/stereo is absolutely useless/obsolete... you won´t hear it!
The Miura vs Countach video may give you a slight impression. Miura is extremely loud, feels enormously quick, looks great, spacy inside. Not comparable to the other Lambos (GT´s). Doesn´t fit if you are taller than 1,75m
I'm no auto mechanic but what is that whining/scraping sound as the car is decelerating? I noticed that the windshield wipers aren't down more and out of the way. In such a low-slung car, you don't want anything sticking in your forward vision like that.
One of the finest cars ever = I'd like to hear from you about handling - alas I owned some great sport cars (Merak,Dino and several 911) but never even driven a Lambo = Thx and best wishes=
Actually the best version was geared to top out at 288kph,but over 270kph the front end usually lifted testers said. Autocar drove one to 170mph=274kph in 1970. Lamborghini themselves promised 300kph,an exaggeration.
I didn't expect transmission whine to be that loud, yes it's an old car but the noise is EPIC, almost louder than the engine it self.

chemical specialists and engine experts tell 4 stroke engine owners (of older cars)
to putting 1% two stroke oil into the fuel too, because the modern fuel contains
alcohol and acid, the modern 2 Stroke oil neutralizes these corrosion factors and
lubricates the carbs, tanks or / and injection systems also the upper cylinder parts.
2 Stroke oil cleans piston rings and combustion chambers too.

Love all those mechanocal noises. Never experienced a Miura before for real . . .

Really??
micarone 4 years ago
One of the best cars for driving. All the noises are a must and are far away from nowadays cars. In this car a radio/stereo is absolutely useless/obsolete... you won´t hear it!

Lucky enough to own and drive several great GT of the 60/70/80es never and I had a chance
to even start a Miura engine ...
I mainly wonder how is the handling - can some
one tell me having driven it ?

The Miura vs Countach video may give you a slight impression. Miura is extremely loud, feels enormously quick, looks great, spacy inside. Not comparable to the other Lambos (GT´s). Doesn´t fit if you are taller than 1,75m

Its such a shame that the driver does not put his foot down!! Look at my video Maserati Ghibli, Miura and crazy motorcyclist!

Hoi Andre,

Driving position just a few cm in front of the engine makes you feel like sitting on a canonball.

I'm no auto mechanic but what is that whining/scraping sound as the car is decelerating? I noticed that the windshield wipers aren't down more and out of the way. In such a low-slung car, you don't want anything sticking in your forward vision like that.
wolfgar2 4 years ago
1. the whining sound comes from the differential
2. these cars were not perfect and wipers, mirrors etc. only were fitted to get these cars on the road

One of the finest cars ever = I'd like to hear from you about handling - alas I owned some great sport cars (Merak,Dino and several 911) but never even driven a Lambo = Thx and best wishes=
indigoblue555 4 years ago
these car did 300k an hour. fuck thats a noisy box. a real car.
yellowchthonic 4 years ago
Actually the best version was geared to top out at 288kph,but over 270kph the front end usually lifted testers said. Autocar drove one to 170mph=274kph in 1970. Lamborghini themselves promised 300kph,an exaggeration.

Hey Vilesku:
You are an asswipe. fine art does not have to be "fast" to be appreciated. You sound bitter because you probably cannot even afford a Hyundai, Bitch!
marsnerd 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
it looks and sound fast, but in reality is very slow, have you seen how the subcompact (Hunday) passed through on the right at the very end.....¡
