This movie is a vision from god to Donnie. In the end Donnie stays in bed instead of getting up like what Frank told him to do, causing his death but life for Gretchen, his mom, and Samantha. Although he saved their lives, bad things would still happen. One example is Jim being a pedofile. If Donnie didn't burn down his house then they wouldn't have found his Kiddie Porn Dungeon. It's only a small consequence compared to the others' deaths.

Donnie darko was never about good vs evil, it was about the universe coming to an end due to a paradox, that only donnie could set right. why would they do this to such an awesome movie. About S. Darko; I kind of feel that this ruins the universe created with Donnie Darko. It never needed a sequel. Especially not one NOT made by Richard Kelly.
