I was going to buy the Galaxy Tab but the TouchWiz interface is just so laggy. Can't stand a laggy interface and the Tab is missing an external sd cart slot so I bought the original Transformer ;).
To resume the entire video: if u want to pay 100 $ more for 100g less go with the galaxy tab, if u want more ports, micro SD ( up to 32gb) and the possibility to transform ur tablet into a notebook, go with the Transformer. My choice is obvious.
@Badluck019 u can attach le keyboard to tab 10.1 and lack of micro sd isnt a problm for me if i have 32/64 gb of storage, but again, thats only my opinion, coz somehow i like tab more :D

Have both tablets as of today and must say the galaxy tab is very sweet. I've been using the asus since it came out and got the tab today. The tab is faster stock than my asus if o/c to 1.5 ths.
This idiot would suggest paying $100 more for less connections, and same specs, can you say idiot. I have 1 of every tablet, except ipad! I would never suggest a basic and overpriced samsung over a asus. Like getting less for your money, get the samsung. The keyboard dock is not $150, its $109 on Amazon including shipping, Where does this jerk shop at.
I like how the samsung galaxy tab looks, but for $100 less I'll take the transformer. Plus the transformer will be $250 in best buy this black friday:D
galaxy tab looks sexier and is much lighter and thinner, which is the most important for me in this comparison especially that they are identical in almost everything else! i don't care about micro sd or mini hdmi, i use my tablet on the move when i'm traveling, not at home! so portability is more important to me!
I like the review... but overall asus transformer it is better because 4 reasons: price, versatility (mini hdmi port), software (asus have more software built in like polaris office, my cloud among others) and finally accessories the asus transformer dock is amazing extra battery, 2 extra usb ports, 1 full size SD Slot and of course a QWERTY keyboard.
Idiotic review (madeup6) - wtf??? Great review overall, clearly demonstrates differences. Transformer for me. My main req's - I get the versatility of SD card slots + USB, so I can do photo review / basic editing when on holiday! Also, not necessarily to do with choice but tablet format allows me to view pdf's (for work) in portrait mode. Why? - 1.I have a laptop for work (Lenovo T400 atm - i didn't have a choice nor do most employees where I'm at!) 2. I can't afford a Mac Air ;o)
I think you had already decided that Samsung is a better one and so you have based your observations or the analysis around that to suite it...... Asus Transformer is by far a better one than the Samsung..... I find this comparison of ours a totally biased towards Samsung!! I guess you are showing your gratefulness for Samsung bcoz they have given you the developer version of the tablet!!
I honestly don't care about the Eee Pad Transformer being thicker. having a thin tablet would make me feel like i would break it. the Asus just feel more sturdy and durable
ty for your videos! i have a question, i have not used a tablet that much, only play a little with an I pad, and now iam thinking about buying the Asus Transformer, before i do i wanted to know how much can you do with a tablet, i mean about software, for instance, can you use things like Microsoft office? excell, word, access, power point and stuff like that? and how about some kind of photoshop or painter? ty for your time!

For me without a doubt, Trasmformer is the winner!! First of all, the price itself is one of hte most important factors for me!! Plus, better screen, external connecting ports, and free great software like polaris office and mycloud...Transformer a clear winner!!!
@lucky88shp The Tab 10.1 actually has a better screen. I got the Tab 10.1 but will get the Toshiba At200/Excite when it comes out in the winter it is as thin as the Tab 10.1 and has all the ports as the Asus Transformer. Also Asus is coming out with a new Tablet called the Asus Transformer Prime which is thinner than the original Transformer.
@lucky88shp And the dock is really worth it too. When you use it in dock, the tablet draws power first from the dock and when that runs out, it draws from the internal battery. You could leave the dock plugged in the wall and have both recharge when in docked mode and so on. All those combis are worth it but that's also why the Transformer itself is a bit cheaper. ASUS knows people like the dock and will get it.
Transformer for me. :) I'm probably getting one sometime this week. I really need the micro SD card slot and the keyboard is fantastic. Love the flexibility of the whole thing. And from other reviews I have seen, the transformer provides a nice grip on the back. Plus, I love the mocha brown color. I think it oozes class. :)
$150 is a lot? How is that when for the Samsung it'll come out to about $520-50 wit tax and that's just the tablet. The Asus with the dock $580-90 and u get a keyboard wit jabs,SD slot and an extra battery that's a better buy. The Samsung has no connections. Who cares if it lighter unless you're weak then its not good. The Asus is a better buy hands down no questions asked.
@viikihpnerd Software wise, both can do the same. EEE Pad came bundle with Polaris Office (read and write Words, Excel and PP files). Even if Tab doesn't come with one, u can buy an office suite off Android Market for $10-$20.
However, I prefer Evernote since it has a very nice Note creating UI (like a mini Word) and it syncs automatically with cloud server (and I can loads my notes on iphone or PC right away without worrying about transfering files). Evernote beats Springpad in UI
ALSO FORGOT TO MENTIONED ITS BETTER THAN THE GALAXY TAB..OFFERS A SHIT LOAD MORE STUFF AND ITS CHEAPER!!!!!!YES THE KEYBOARD IS $150...BUT THE TOTAL IS $550 AT THE END..$50 MORE THAN THE GALAXY TAB..AND THE ASUS WILL HAVE A KEYBOARD WITH ALOT MORE STUFF..ALOT MORE TO OFFER..LIKE DIFFRENT APPS THAT ASUS INCLUDED..AND ASUS IS BETTER ON PUSHING UPDATES THAN SAMSUNG
HOW IN THE HELL CAN YOU PICK THE GALAXY TAB OVER THE ASUS JUST CUZ ITS A BIT LIGHTER..AND I DO MEAN A BIT..ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW...IF YOU LOOK OF WHAT THE ASUS OFFERS..IT OFFERS MORE WAY MORE THAN THE GALAXY...YES IT HAS A FLASH ON THE BACK CAMERA BUT IT WAS A 3MP CAMERA!!!! THE FRONT CAMERA DOESNT MATTER CUZ ALL THE TABS HAVE A CRAPPY CAMERA...THE ONLY ARGUEMENT HE HAS IS THAT ITS LIGHTER...HIS A MORON...FAR FROM THE FLASH, THE BIT HIGHER MP ON THE FRONT CAMERA AND BEING A BIT LIGHTER.
@sakal88 Okay almost no device comes close to Apple's smoothness and fluidity. BUT you must remember that as easy and fluid iOS is they don't run what Android runs, which is live multitasking, and heavy-sided widgets, as well as many more accessibility, so you can't expect these devices to run as well as an iPad. However when comparing my Tab 10.1 to my iPad 2 I notice that Samsung products are generally the smoothest tablets/phones around. Hope this helps.
@sakal88 messing around with the eee pad transformer at a shop it is very smooth, still not quite up to the fluidity of the ipad 2 but I had been screwing around putting heaps of widgets on the screen and there was still very minimal lag between swiping and the screen reacting. I think it will be a while until android devices are as fluid as apple devices but they are very close.
I have a white 64 gb 3 g iPad 2 and I'm jail broken n it's not slow or lagy n my friend has an Asus n the iPad was better wit many facts so no trolling
Talk about biased.... I guess if it came down to a Fat -chick and a Skinny-chick I know who he would choose!!... Personally I like a lil meat on the bones... Transformer here I come!!!
The transformer clearly should've won smh. Should I get the transformer or iPad 2?? I'm not familiar with android and the new iOS 5 looks pretty cool with 200+ features
im sorry noah but u finished off "sitting on the fence" if i wanted a tablet it would of helped watching this vid but not really helping me in making my final choice :L
@RialKid Yeah. Its a light weight Office suite good for doing just about anything the average High Schooler or University student would need. There are a vid or 2 on Polaris on YouTube.
Nothing on software? They nothing run 3.1 but they have differences like any two android devices. Asus has Polaris office and my cloud! That's a give dif and makes it a better tab to me. Not very detailed head to head.
Asus has the same thickness as the iPad 1. I think choosing between Galaxy Tab and Asus Transformer is like choosing between iPad 1 and iPad 2 if they had the same hardware. Asus is just thicker. And don't forget that ASUS has many ports and a keyboard with battery, and ASUS is really nice brand. Samsung still seems to be cheap copy maker. SEEMS.
The only choice that you have between these two are design opinion. If you like how the Samsung looks get it. If you like how the Asus looks get it. You cant go wrong with either one of them.
I have the 7 inch galaxy tab and the ipad2. love em both I like the ipad for movies and garageband. I love the galaxy tab for reading tweeting fb and just about everything else!! how does the 10.1 compare to the 7 inch??
I ditched the ipad 2 because I got sick and tire of not doing much on the ipad 2 without paying APPLE and arm and a leg. Come-on exporting a simple doc files on the ipad 2 is a bitch.
I had the ipad 2 and now the asus transformer. The Honeycomb OS is just not as polished as the IOS. Little things like pinch zoom, loading multiple thumb videos on the Honeycomb is laggy. Certain website that used forms doesn't work. Working with multiple windows doesn't work well like windows. The book mark on the default browser is not as advance as windows. I hope Google fix all this.
Idiots, tegra 2 can handle 1080p and Honeycomb is NOT a laggy mess on these tablets nor is it on gingerbread phones that aren't skinned or have been deskinned to aosp/cm builds. Side note: I believe the transformer is the better deal here, but that is always personal opinion when it comes to two things with specs and features that close together.
Normally, I tend to be pretty abrasive with my reply, but I'll try and take a different route this time and see if I can have a break through.
For anyone, who thinks that Honeycomb and Gingerbread is lag free, please, please, please go and actually use these devices and after you've used them to your heart's delight, then go and use any iPhone devices and you will see what i am talking about. I challenge u to use any Android devices and you would see what i am talking about.
Let me first say that I do not have a Galaxy S2. So my comments on that phone can only be limited to what I have read thus far .
My comments to the above review had to do with this deliberate refusal of reviewers to call Google or manufactures on the nonsense they are trying to pass off as superior product. If they do a good job, say so, but to only talk about specs and ignore this achilles heel only continue to hurt the brand.
@makaveli17042 well, if u do have limited knoledge about the s2..then dont blabber about and im quoting". I challenge u to use any Android devices and you would see what i am talking about." because clearly u dont have good knoledge about good android phones out there
Ok! I was just about you go off on you big time, but I see did not specify that I was referring to devices available in the U.S. So let me now say, "I am referring to U.S. Android devices". Currently, Samsung Galaxy S2 is not available in the U.S. I have also heard issues associated with that device, but I cannot say for sure if such issues are true or not, so I would reserve judgement until it becomes available...
@makaveli17042 oKAY, BEFORE YOU START getting all emotional on this, let me just tell u, u mentioned about lag, and boy i can tellu one thing, the sgs 2 does Not LAG,impossible...its simply unbeatable...and i think even the g2x has lag
Every Android device that I've tested, suffers from the same problem and surprisingly some people have no idea what I am talking about. However, if you enjoy having the best, and having it work to perfection, you would know what I am talking about. My HTC EVO has probably one of the smoothest U.I. (and I've sampled the best Roms out there) and yet, I can still see where its a bit choppy and slow when compared to WP7 and IOS, and most developers and technical types agree
@makaveli17042 Considering I have owned an ipad and an Asus transformer I'm pretty sure I'm qualified to say stock honeycomb tends to be very smooth unless the homescreen is loaded down with Widgets. Which btw, iOS devices don't even support. Also, my thunderbolt with cm7 and lpp doesn't lag unless its a poorly coded app that doesn't utilize hardware acceleration. Sorry to rain on your parade.
"All these Android reviewers go about talking about Android as though the UI problems do not even exist, when the truth is, its the first thing everyone notices when trying to decide what tablet to buy."
You had an opportunity to talk about which one of these manufactures did a better job of eliminating that problem and you failed miserably. If you guys don't shame Google into doing something about this problem, all you would get are souped up hardware with shit for software.
Are you freaking serious??? How can you have a heading like "Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Eee Pad Transformer", and not talk about the achilles heel that plague all Android devices; the implementation of the Android Software and the resulting effect of the U.I. lags and choppiness. All these Android reviewers go about talking about Android as though these UI problems do not even exist, when the truth is, its the first everyone anyone notices.
I want to know if this problem is solved, then Specs...
@dirtymp123 Because people like an option. Plus the Transformer (which I have) and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 are comparable or arguably better than the iPad 2. I myself prefer the Asus Transformer because it has the keyboard dock that boosts battery, adds a lot of functionality; plus the UI on Android is more pleasent to me than a bunch of icons
I had the Transformer on Preorder since May. I've read a lot about the quality control of the Asus and decided to cancel and get the tab 10.1 instead (which arrives today). Multiple sources confirm that light bleed, creeking (pieces not fitting together properly, and battery management between the keyboard dock and tablet are consistent problems. Asus admitted that they ramped up production in June to meet demand, whcih could explain poor quality control. I'm not risking getting a lemon.
I got the samsung galaxy tab 10.1 from yesterday , tell you guys it`s pretty nice tablet , but Ilike it the asus too so what I did transfer stock stuff like widgets and app from asus to my galaxy and work perfect , now for me till to now i got the best of both world , so happy
No, I mean the width and heights of the screens (In fact, it was a feature that John really liked, with the Transformer's wider and shorter screen, when watching HD movies you didn't get any black bars along the edges of the screen). That wider screen is one of the features that makes the Transformer unique, and in my honest opinion, better than the other tablets on the market.
@Ishcoa You get what you pay for. Also, how does the Transformer have a better screen? I've heard the complete opposite...everyone saying the Tab has the best screen of any tablet in the market
I personally think Noah's specialty is reviewing products whereas Jon's specialty is the unboxing and the specs of the devices. Both do a extraordinary job with both concepts though. GO TB!!! <3
@nedkelly5580 actually, samsung supplies specific parts for the iPad, like the A5 chip, but Foxconn assembles it. So no, Samsung does not make Apple products, and they don't know what they look like until we do - when they're announced.
@NedKelly5580 They don't make the products lol, they make the components of whats inside the iPad, like the A4 and A5 processors and I believe maybe even the display. I understand how u might mix the 2 up but Apple builds their products just as Samsung builds their products by imitating Apples design. lol
in my opinion galaxy tab is better but i still wonder why samsung just put 3MP camera to galaxy tab instead of 5 or 8MP....? if not this tablet will be a killer to all the tablets out there.....eventhough it is already a killer....but it is nice sometimes to capture a nice picture with this tablet....(a tablet or a phone will never replace a camera!!)
my primary sec device is my phone....

ALSO FORGOT TO MENTIONED ITS BETTER THAN THE GALAXY TAB..OFFERS A SHIT LOAD MORE STUFF AND ITS CHEAPER!!!!!!YES THE KEYBOARD IS $150...BUT THE TOTAL IS $550 AT THE END..$50 MORE THAN THE GALAXY TAB..AND THE ASUS WILL HAVE A KEYBOARD WITH ALOT MORE STUFF..ALOT MORE TO OFFER..LIKE DIFFRENT APPS THAT ASUS INCLUDED..AND ASUS IS BETTER ON PUSHING UPDATES THAN SAMSUNG
mr2t3750 7 months ago
HOW IN THE HELL CAN YOU PICK THE GALAXY TAB OVER THE ASUS JUST CUZ ITS A BIT LIGHTER..AND I DO MEAN A BIT..ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW...IF YOU LOOK OF WHAT THE ASUS OFFERS..IT OFFERS MORE WAY MORE THAN THE GALAXY...YES IT HAS A FLASH ON THE BACK CAMERA BUT IT WAS A 3MP CAMERA!!!! THE FRONT CAMERA DOESNT MATTER CUZ ALL THE TABS HAVE A CRAPPY CAMERA...THE ONLY ARGUEMENT HE HAS IS THAT ITS LIGHTER...HIS A MORON...FAR FROM THE FLASH, THE BIT HIGHER MP ON THE FRONT CAMERA AND BEING A BIT LIGHTER.

are those devices as smooth/fast/responsive as apple products ?
or does it lag ?
sakal88 7 months ago
@sakal88 Okay almost no device comes close to Apple's smoothness and fluidity. BUT you must remember that as easy and fluid iOS is they don't run what Android runs, which is live multitasking, and heavy-sided widgets, as well as many more accessibility, so you can't expect these devices to run as well as an iPad. However when comparing my Tab 10.1 to my iPad 2 I notice that Samsung products are generally the smoothest tablets/phones around. Hope this helps.
commenternotfound 7 months ago
@sakal88 messing around with the eee pad transformer at a shop it is very smooth, still not quite up to the fluidity of the ipad 2 but I had been screwing around putting heaps of widgets on the screen and there was still very minimal lag between swiping and the screen reacting. I think it will be a while until android devices are as fluid as apple devices but they are very close.

same screen aspect ratio, so your argument is a moot point..
They are both wide screen aspect ratio as opposed to apple being 4:3..thanks bye

@asitmc yes but asus also has IPS screen and gorilla glass. Asus is better in many ways !

sti11famous 8 months ago
Nothing on software? They nothing run 3.1 but they have differences like any two android devices. Asus has Polaris office and my cloud! That's a give dif and makes it a better tab to me. Not very detailed head to head.
kodymcbanks 8 months ago
Both of those tablets look pretty laggy.
MSComputerVideos 8 months ago
Asus has the same thickness as the iPad 1. I think choosing between Galaxy Tab and Asus Transformer is like choosing between iPad 1 and iPad 2 if they had the same hardware. Asus is just thicker. And don't forget that ASUS has many ports and a keyboard with battery, and ASUS is really nice brand. Samsung still seems to be cheap copy maker. SEEMS.
player1diao 8 months ago
The only choice that you have between these two are design opinion. If you like how the Samsung looks get it. If you like how the Asus looks get it. You cant go wrong with either one of them.

I have the 7 inch galaxy tab and the ipad2. love em both I like the ipad for movies and garageband. I love the galaxy tab for reading tweeting fb and just about everything else!! how does the 10.1 compare to the 7 inch??
stil29 8 months ago
I ditched the ipad 2 because I got sick and tire of not doing much on the ipad 2 without paying APPLE and arm and a leg. Come-on exporting a simple doc files on the ipad 2 is a bitch.
DJTEVAdotCOM 8 months ago
I had the ipad 2 and now the asus transformer. The Honeycomb OS is just not as polished as the IOS. Little things like pinch zoom, loading multiple thumb videos on the Honeycomb is laggy. Certain website that used forms doesn't work. Working with multiple windows doesn't work well like windows. The book mark on the default browser is not as advance as windows. I hope Google fix all this.
DJTEVAdotCOM 8 months ago
just picked up the 10.1, LOVE this thing
FaiLxTRaiN 8 months ago
Idiots, tegra 2 can handle 1080p and Honeycomb is NOT a laggy mess on these tablets nor is it on gingerbread phones that aren't skinned or have been deskinned to aosp/cm builds. Side note: I believe the transformer is the better deal here, but that is always personal opinion when it comes to two things with specs and features that close together.
BartJJ2 8 months ago
Normally, I tend to be pretty abrasive with my reply, but I'll try and take a different route this time and see if I can have a break through.
For anyone, who thinks that Honeycomb and Gingerbread is lag free, please, please, please go and actually use these devices and after you've used them to your heart's delight, then go and use any iPhone devices and you will see what i am talking about. I challenge u to use any Android devices and you would see what i am talking about.

chickengamerrespawn 8 months ago
@chickengamerrespawn
Let me first say that I do not have a Galaxy S2. So my comments on that phone can only be limited to what I have read thus far .
My comments to the above review had to do with this deliberate refusal of reviewers to call Google or manufactures on the nonsense they are trying to pass off as superior product. If they do a good job, say so, but to only talk about specs and ignore this achilles heel only continue to hurt the brand.
makaveli17042 8 months ago
@makaveli17042 well, if u do have limited knoledge about the s2..then dont blabber about and im quoting". I challenge u to use any Android devices and you would see what i am talking about." because clearly u dont have good knoledge about good android phones out there
chickengamerrespawn 8 months ago
@chickengamerrespawn
Ok! I was just about you go off on you big time, but I see did not specify that I was referring to devices available in the U.S. So let me now say, "I am referring to U.S. Android devices". Currently, Samsung Galaxy S2 is not available in the U.S. I have also heard issues associated with that device, but I cannot say for sure if such issues are true or not, so I would reserve judgement until it becomes available...
makaveli17042 8 months ago
@makaveli17042 oKAY, BEFORE YOU START getting all emotional on this, let me just tell u, u mentioned about lag, and boy i can tellu one thing, the sgs 2 does Not LAG,impossible...its simply unbeatable...and i think even the g2x has lag
chickengamerrespawn 8 months ago
@chickengamerrespawn
Every Android device that I've tested, suffers from the same problem and surprisingly some people have no idea what I am talking about. However, if you enjoy having the best, and having it work to perfection, you would know what I am talking about. My HTC EVO has probably one of the smoothest U.I. (and I've sampled the best Roms out there) and yet, I can still see where its a bit choppy and slow when compared to WP7 and IOS, and most developers and technical types agree
makaveli17042 8 months ago
@makaveli17042 Considering I have owned an ipad and an Asus transformer I'm pretty sure I'm qualified to say stock honeycomb tends to be very smooth unless the homescreen is loaded down with Widgets. Which btw, iOS devices don't even support. Also, my thunderbolt with cm7 and lpp doesn't lag unless its a poorly coded app that doesn't utilize hardware acceleration. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Correction ***
"All these Android reviewers go about talking about Android as though the UI problems do not even exist, when the truth is, its the first thing everyone notices when trying to decide what tablet to buy."
You had an opportunity to talk about which one of these manufactures did a better job of eliminating that problem and you failed miserably. If you guys don't shame Google into doing something about this problem, all you would get are souped up hardware with shit for software.
makaveli17042 8 months ago
Are you freaking serious??? How can you have a heading like "Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Eee Pad Transformer", and not talk about the achilles heel that plague all Android devices; the implementation of the Android Software and the resulting effect of the U.I. lags and choppiness. All these Android reviewers go about talking about Android as though these UI problems do not even exist, when the truth is, its the first everyone anyone notices.
I want to know if this problem is solved, then Specs...

tigruNET 8 months ago
@dirtymp123 Because people like an option. Plus the Transformer (which I have) and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 are comparable or arguably better than the iPad 2. I myself prefer the Asus Transformer because it has the keyboard dock that boosts battery, adds a lot of functionality; plus the UI on Android is more pleasent to me than a bunch of icons
EpicHacker01 8 months ago
I had the Transformer on Preorder since May. I've read a lot about the quality control of the Asus and decided to cancel and get the tab 10.1 instead (which arrives today). Multiple sources confirm that light bleed, creeking (pieces not fitting together properly, and battery management between the keyboard dock and tablet are consistent problems. Asus admitted that they ramped up production in June to meet demand, whcih could explain poor quality control. I'm not risking getting a lemon.

The wider angle, best for video.
Ishcoa 8 months ago
@Ishcoa you mean viewing angle? He didn't even compare that here..dude..
asitmc 8 months ago
@asitmc
Ishcoa 8 months ago
@Ishcoa You get what you pay for. Also, how does the Transformer have a better screen? I've heard the complete opposite...everyone saying the Tab has the best screen of any tablet in the market

I understand how u might mix the 2 up but Apple builds their products just as Samsung builds their products by imitating Apples design. lol
