Re-listening to more of Greg Lake's solo stuff, I'm struck by how he could have been a really successful solo performer - the looks of David Cassidy and the songwriting ability of Joni. Quite amazing. I wonder what X-factor would have made of him (joke).
Thank you for posting such a high quality audio feed! I'm a 31 year old discovering ELP for the first time since childhood as an adult. Amazing the resonance this song is having with me right now. I just couldn't grasp it as a 5 year old listening to my parents EP's on the turntable... The images help immensely. Thanks again!
This song was in the student lounge jukebox at my Comm. College. People hated me for playing it over & over. Love it !!
Saw these guys @ August Jam 1974, @ the Charlotte Motorspeedway, with about 350,000 other blown away kids. Still has to be my all time fav for concerts.
Saw ELP in 1973 in Baltimore. Heard this song performed at the concert. This song is timeless in its appeal and even non rockers will appreciate its quality.
I hope Greg Lake doesn't look at the comments that are made on these videos. He would be excused for thinking hes accidentally beamed in on a petty kindergarten fight.Acayetan kindly put this lovely video up and some of you lot are using it as an arena to air your childish twaddle.Acayetan, thanks again for putting this up,I come here at least once a week to hear this beautiful song and see the video you have so lovingly put together.I try not to read the posts but sadly its unavoidable.
I'm really starting to wonder how many of these 160 or so comments have anything to do with ELP. Let's put this thing to sleep people and let people come in here to enjoy ELP and not BS about Journey with or without Perry. Not the place, neither is it the time...
I think it all started when there were people discussing good classic rock...Journey came up...and the big ball of negative energy - also known as zoznack - just started egging Journey fans on...in a bad way.
I'm sure no-one here wanted the comments to end up like this. ELP made some of the best classic rock. This song is one of the great ones that they have done. Nealkang sent me this video, and it rules...
First of all Steve is the ultimate song man..who can deny his voice that speaks to us from all over..whoever doesn't like him clearly doesn't know what the frick he is talking about..Can i get an Amen?...Mandy from Texas
Again I ask you...why are you speaking of Steve Perry on a site that is not even his. PLEASE refrain from wadling your way over to his sites, b/c you will not be welcomed. If you wish to enjoy the "new" replacement, then fine...do so! Just DO NOT make any degrading remarks about the man that made JRNY a household name. They were spiraling in a downward path to nothingess when HH realized they needed something..and SP had more than just a little something to add! He made them famous!
I didn't bring up Steve Perry. The Kang the Retard did. I don't GO to Journey/Steve Perry sites...why would I-I think he sucks. But I DO like ELP...I told Kang that Perry sucks, IMO, and he went postal like the 7-year old that he is. Journey might be famous, but "household name"? C'mon, be realistic. The Stones, Beatles, Hendrix...THOSE are HH names. Not your beloved Journey.
zoznack You're such a f**king liar. You go on the Perry videos and start shit all the time. You must be horribly jealous of Perry or have nothing else better in your life to do but come on here and argue with people. Keep on bashing and we'll keep on defending.
Journey IS a household name and very well known....Just like you're very well known as being an asshole.
I've never been to a "Perry Video" that I can recall. Find my name there, asswipe, or else, call yourself a liar. Journey is no more a household name than my shit is...maybe to YOU, but not to the rest of the normal world.
zocorhead...if someday a bright light shines and you see it, look for Journey circa 1980, Steve Perry was THE frontman for Journey and there is no replacement. People was sound like him, but replacement lead singers will come and go. And there will never be another Steve Perry.
Yeah, I know all this. Doesn't change my opinion that Perry sucked. He had the formula down for SELLING records-I'm not arguing that. And THANK GOD there will never be another Steve Perry...sadly, though, there ARE other sucky singers.
You claim that I can't be objective simply b/c I have chose tne name perryzgal and have been known as such for as long as I can remember. Are you really that stupid? Does my screen name refelct a singer I LOVE...of course you moron. Does that mean that I can't be objective? No! The simple fact is this. Every replacement singer that JRNY has hired has SUCKED IMO. I have not liked a single one. AP is a whining, screaming, english challenged wanna-be. He sucks. Point made!
Well, no, you cannot be objective on the issue. I'm not familiar with Journey's replacement singers. Thank God they basically disappeared from the radio (and everywhere else) once Perry left.
Actually I believe based on your own comment hat yo have not heard the other "replacement" makes you the one that cannotbe objective. Simply b/c I use the name perryzgal does not in any way, shape or form make me unable to be objective about who is a better singer! It is hands down...Steve Perry! He is the reason this band made it to the level of fame that they reached. If you deny this, then you have a problem. Even Neal knows it...he's just too stupid to make any good decisions!
perryzgal: I totally agree with what you said. Some great points...You know, I think this zoznack lowlife has more than a mere problem. He's a real headcase, who must be sitting in a Japanese jail cell after committing some filthy crime. That's where the sorry loser has been recyling all the garbage daily in between his disciplinary schedule in there. Now he's trying to act like a "regular" moron. What a f'g joke!!!
zoznack: Hey sick f*ck! Speaking of "sickening". How many boyfriends have you bent over to in your f'g jail cell so far? I guess your bunghole's pretty sore by now, huh? Looking back now, the fact that you were f*cking around in this video was like a goddamn boken watch showing the right time a few times a year. lol!!!
No, I never heard the "replacement". Why would I. Why would I care? Journey, like most bland stadium rock outfits, was shoved down the throats of the public when they were at the height of their popularity. Once Perry left and album sales declined, no one ever heard them again.
I NEVER denied that Perry was the catalyst behind Journey's fame. But again, album sales and musical QUALITY are not one and the same.
Nobody heard of Journey before Perry. I'm the worlds biggest Schon fan. Loved the original line up. Thought you did too. He did great work w/Journey, not to mention Hagar/Bad English/Hardline. He's too stupid to live? Back up and review you previous comments fuck head and get your story straight...
Why? Everything I said up to now is correct. I liked Shon in Santana. Rolie, of course, was the heart of the original Santana (next to Carlos himself, of course). Who cares if "no one heard of them before Perry". Anyone with a shred of musical taste knows that they were, musically, better then. But of course, they didn't sell many records and to you neanderthals (and you, fuckhead), that's all that counts. Not to me though.
Damn, I feel so humbled now. Oh, guess not, it was heartburn. FYI, I have never been and never will be a bandwagon jumper. I like who I like for my own reasons, not because they're POPULAR. Why don't you go listen to Frampton Comes Alive. I'm sure you have it. I'll go listen to pretentious 2112.
You should feel humbled. Why would I listen to such DRIVEL as Frampton Comes Alive? Talk about stadium rock excesses! I used to like Rush-the 1970's version. They were pretentious, but not overwhelmingly so. By 1980 or so, they really became full of themselves. I think Geddy Lee used to speak with a faux British accent...he dropped it somewhere along the way, though.
I've yet to buy anything after A Farewell to Kings, the boys went way south. Wait, I bought Chronicles, I stand corrected. Never had Frampton Comes Alive although I had a Humble Pie album or two. And a rarely feel humbled, I do know my shit.
You know your shit? Says YOU! However, your latest comments at least paint you as a bit more objective and well-rounded than the typical Steve Perry fanboy, e.g. the rest of this crew. We rock fans can be a persnickiny lot.
Never claimed to be a Perry fan boy. Claimed to be Journey fan. Granted, while I preferred Look into the Future and Next, Infinity was great and some other stuff I liked also. As with all bands there were things I didn't like. And, once again, what the hell's wrong with stadium rock. Best shows I've ever seen were in stadiums. Never saw Journey in a stadium though, just small Bay Area venues.
I use the term "stadium rock" as a generic term for the typically bland and "popular" bands that dotted the 70's and early 80's music landscape. The term is not really litteral for playing in stadiums. A few such "Stadium Rock" bands were the Eagles, Journey, REO, Rush, Aerosmith, etc. The type of band that may have had a handful of good tunes, but by and large, once their fan base got huge, they turned to shit.
And, don't generalize with "stadium" rock. I saw Rush, Sabbath (twice), Pink Floyd among others in stadiums in the 70s. Do they fit your shitty little label???
Sabbath (only WITH Ozzie) does not fit my shitty little label. Pink Floyd (only WITH Syd Barrett-and anything on "Meddle") doesn't either. Rush...hmmm...yeah, they're pretty damn pretentious and insufferable-but those guys could play. They should have quit 25 years ago, though. All rock bands, if they hang around for long enough and go through enough personnel changes, become self-parodying...which is why "Spinal Tap" was such a hillarious flick. So, get over yourself.
zoznack ...Do you really think I give a shit what you say to me?? All I do is laugh at your stupid comments....We all know who has shit for brains and it's not me...hahahha
Yes, I do think you give a shit. If my comments are so stupid, why respond to them? Because, well...they AREN'T stupid...and they touch you to the bottom of your soul. Peace, beakyboy.
zoznack: Yeah, that's what I thought, you poor retard! You've run out things to say. hahaha... You were mentally and intellectually challenged to begin with, and now, I guess you're losing sleep to concoct all these shitty murmuring all night long. Actually, it's highly enjoyable for us to watch you get those pea-sized testicles of yours shrinking everyday. Hey! Can you even get it up anymore? You know you're f'g finished! Not just here, but you're DONE! In every aspect of your sick f'g life!
Yeah, I'm losing sleep over a sick puppy like you...right. The Internet's great 'cause dysfunctional fucks like you can sprout nonsense without consequence. Lucky for you that you have a computer (and mom's basement) to hide behind, you drooling imbecile...
jumpy: Yes, it was really, really miniscule. And you know what? It's shrinking every minute. That's why only thing the f'g loser has is time. He can't even jack off anymore. What a damn tragedy! Maybe we all should sing that Bee Gees song together for the loser. lol!!!
Shit, I'm back in this neighborhood again? I think my computer automatically comes here when I boot up. And, speaking of boot up, let's all give a swift kick in the ass to the zozter.
jimdandygo: Looks like we're the ones coming in here with our computers. The zoznack bozo has been "crawling" up here in every morning with his knees draggin' on the floor. He's always bent over, so he could be kicked around by us more easily...
soldonhim: No, I'm afraid he's been coming here to get his seriously overdue psychiatrical treatment. What's really important is YOU are back! We welcome you with "Open Arms", our dear friend!!!
Thank you dear friend, decided it was high time. "Feeling That Way" had been playing in my head for days, and I had to come and hear it from the only "voice" who can sing it.
WTF you think it means, idiot?! Oh yeah, I forgot you're an illiterate. That's another f'g reason you got kicked outa here, right? Yeah, keep barkin' shit, and it'll develop your friggin' delusion into something more potent, such as the mad cow or mad dog disease. Oh, come to think of it, you may already have both. Hey f*cker! You must be improving on your literary skills thanks to all these bright and sober folks these days. What a f'g disgrace you are! Shame on you, you bonkura asuhoru!!!
zoznack - dude, seriously...Journey took a nose dive as soon as Steve Perry went. He was the reason that there were so many people coming to see him. Women especially. He was something to look at. He had the finest ass of any frontman. And he used to look into women's eyes and make them fall into a trance. That's something you can't replace.
charmingasalways: I see you're a friend of syndrome477. Looks like we have a mutual friend. You make a great point in your comment. I value your opinion highly...
You really sound like you're 12 years old, or else a very sick and stunted adult. Your shit sounds childish, so keep it coming and digging your hold deeper.
As for the Japanese, please. You know nothing about the country other than what you read in comic books. You may think you sound clever, but you only make yourself look like even MORE of a moron (if that's even possible).
zoznack: (a loud yawn) Hey bonkura! Is this all you've got? You're f'g recycling all the garbage you've used before. Can you at least concoct something new? Well, I guess you can't. You're f'd in the head. You're not only a psycho in the music, you're a psycho, period!
WHat kind of drugs are you on? Do you have to be so crude? If someone loves Perry (me and TONS of other fans) why can't you be okay with that?) BTW...this isn't even a Perry site, so why the hell are you talking about him here? Don't bother coming to his pages to bash him b/c I promise you, you will not get a warm reception and it won't be pretty!
zoznack: You really are alone in your opinions here. How you can knock the voice of Steve Perry and then also knock Boston, Foreigner, REO and others. Are you still hurting from some really bad times that happened back in the late 70's & 80's. You must be because you have to be associating these things with this music because this music including this video here & especially Perry is some of the best music ever done---Oh & BTW Steve Perry's idol was Sam Cooke, yea both names-same sentence!
What's wrong with being alone in my opinions. Among people who KNOW music I'm sure I'd have a lot of company, but here? Yes, you're right. That 70's FM shit sucked. I didn't mind it as a HIGH SCHOOLER, but my musical tastes matured along with everything else. Perry "some of the best music ever done"? You don't get out much, do you?
zoznack: Nothing wrong with having opinions, but when those opinions insult others its just rude. haha, I do get out and I have a wide range of musical likes & dislikes. Steve Perry is right at the very top of my likes. His music is deep, emotionally moving and just downright beautiful. My guess is you have never listened to his music, I mean really listened to it. My musical tastes have also matured very much over the years and Steve's music still fits perfectly. I also still like ELP.
Gee, that must be it...I've never plummed the depths of Steve Perry's incredibly deep music. Thanks for taking the time to figure out what my problem is. And all this time I thought Perry was simply lame and testicularly-challened.
zoznack: Wow what did Perry ever do to you to make you such an angry person? Your turning this ELP video into a Perry site with your comments and that isnt even right. You know Perry built the legacy that Journey still holds onto today and did this without your support then so yea, why change now. You sound like the critics did back in the days, only difference they actually came to realize the voice he had and admitted as such. His voice is highly regarded whether you agree with me or not.
Didn't do anything to me, other than give the world his whining, warbling voice. Hey, I liked a lot of the bands that were popular at the time that Journey was popular. Unfortunately, the radio overplayed Journey , hence ruining my listening experience. I didn't turn this ELP video into a Perry site. NealKrazyKang did. I merely voiced an opinion that "his man" was lame and he went postal. Rather than ignoring his girlish whinning, I decided to bite back.
zoznack: So why is it that you ridicule Steve Perry for radio overplay. I will agree with you that the radio contributes to the irritation level due to overplay. To this day I still hate the song Joy To The World but I surely wouldnt blame Three Dog Night and ridicule them for what the radio did. They also ruined quite a few other songs for me due to radio overplay. A person can dislike music but you in your expression of dislike went overboard and made it a personal issue.
zoznack: I understand that Steve Perry's vocals are not your thing but totally dismissing his contributions to Journey and labelling his fans and Perry-era Journey fans as people, who don't know good music is just plain wrong! I happen to be a huge progressive rock enthusiast and just recently discovered Journey/SP. I'm now a big fan of all the Journey eras up until SP was out of the band, and SP's solo stuff too. There's lot to appreciate if you get off your high prog horse to do that...
These guys grew up on Gospel & other types of traditionaly black music. They were fans of jimi hendrix , sam cooke. etc.
like the others i love the 70's and 80's music no one makes that kind of music or lyrics in music like that.. they were real songs. Journey/ steve Perry - still got ppl beleivin in them -- look at all the ppl that view thier videos.and now its a whole new generation.. now they have fans who have grandkids hooked on journey!!! the music & talent is timeless...
jumpygirl3: lol!!! The Suzuki Method...That's a real knockout! I totally agree with you on all accounts. I guess those cavemen don't seem to fathom the real depth of Journey music with Steve Perry. Those airheads think Journey's merely about some pop/rock band that made it big accidentally. Hey, let them explore the real Journey, and educate themselves in some "real" rock'n'roll, instead of some goddamn shady stuff out of the Unabomber's closet.
trit1harley2bo3: Uh...I'm afraid the negativity and jadedness is a twisted expression of self-doubt and insecurities. Those antisocials usually have some real peculiar thought and behavioral patterns, much like we witness in the case of zozonack in this page.
I wonder how Greg would have developed as a song writer if he hadn't been involved with ELP.Emerson was certainly a massive personality and got the lions share of the LP space in those days.I never got the feeling that Greg really felt at home playing bass and guitar on those long instrumental pieces.I'm sure he would much rather have been singing and playing his own stuff.I idolised ELP in my youth but I always felt that Greg had so much more in him than we ever got to hear. That voice.Swoon!
What a wonderful soulful vocal work by Greg Lake! It's absolutely mesmerizing...This and his vocal performance in "Epitaph" with King Crimson are among my very favorite vocals of all time. To me, Greg Lake is a lower and more subdued version of Steve Perry, who happens to be my main man.
I agree with your comments re. Lake except for the last one. You can't even compare his voice to that eunuch, Steve Perry. It's class and style vs. complete crap.
That "completely crappy eunuch" is considered to be one of the best, if not THE best, male rock vocalists of all time. And that's not just my opinion. Ask any reputable vocal analyst about how accomplished Perry is as a vocalist. His ability to sing in such high notes is NOT because of his hormonal malfunction. It's a product of his early training through the soul and r&b vocal techniques pioneered by the likes of Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. I suggest you study some history before you comment.
I don't need to "study history"-my ears help me out here. Perry was the WEAK link of Journey, a group with some incredible musicians. Perry probably provided the commericial appeal that put Journey on the road to multi-platimum sales, but as a music fan and musician, he was the reason that that band was a total turn-off. And his songwriting, of course. Please, don't even mention his name again in the same sentence as Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. You've got to be joking!
Well, you're the one who's joking. Your view is exactly the opposite to that of majority of Journey fans today. Obviously, you have an antisocial tendency to go against the mainstream and the popular tastes, and it is to the extremes. Hey! We're not dealing with some fine art here. The value of the rock/pop music lies in the entertainment value which pleases the public. Therefore, the music that's enjoyed by many can't be said to be "inferior" to what's not, just because it's enjoyed by more.
I being a big pre-Perry Journey fan kind of cringed with the direction the band headed with him. When Infinity came out I thought it was a great album but I also sensed the band was going in another direction, and they did. Perry gave Journey more commercial success which I was against but that wasn't how I made a living. Ended up he was an aquired taste for me and I accepted him as a part of the band. Not 'the' part or the weak part but an important part. Don't think he was holding a gun either
Of course no one held a gun to other bandmembers' head. But Journey was like Foreigner, REO, Boston, Kansas and any other late-70's white bread commercial stadium rockers. The music's not exactly timeless and other than the Journey freaks who write passionately in defense of their boys (e.g. Nealkang), no one listens to this shit anymore. Some of the music that Rolie, Shon and Dunbar made BEFORE joining Journey is timeless, and for good reason.
zoznack: Listen, butthead! The definition of a "freak" is "one that is markedly unusual or abnormal". It appears YOU exactly fit the definition, because you're calling the fans of all the most popular bands of the late 70's and 80's "freaks". How could those tens of millions of folks be "freaks"? You are a sicko who needs to form a private band for yourself. Because you're "freakishly" allergic to whatever that is popular and accepted by the majority number of the populace. Yes, YOU are a freak!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ohhh...sounds like the little fanboy has blown a gasket. Damn, I know how to push those buttons.
Britany has "tens of millions" of fans, too. So does Kenny G., but does that mean they know what the hell good music is? Know. But I only called YOU a freak-not the many Journey "fans", due to your pathetic defense of Journey/Steve Perry's "music". So, get this straight: Journey fans=bad taste in music. Nealkand=fanboy freak. Got it now?
zoznack:No, hardly. You pushed YOUR buttons to go off on your "freakishness". After all, YOU're a freak, not me. Hey, bonehead! Don't change your sorry tune now. You've called all the fans of your "hated" bands freaks. And you also said, "No one listens to this shit anymore." Uh, excuse me, but their songs are listened to by millions, if not billions, everyday. You live in a cave or somethin' Yeah, that's what I thought!
zozonack: Hey sicko! All these "normal" folks seem to be agreeing with me, NOT you! That's another evidence of you being a "freak". I'm sure you've gone through enough to let you know it, but it still hasn't got through you goddamn thick skull of yours. You must be either seriously retarded or extremely sisnister in your nauture. I've got no doubts about that, you f'g loser. You're the musical version of the unabomber. It's YOUR type of sickos that wreak havoc on this otherwise livable world!
zoznack: There's only one friggin' Japanese phrase you need to learn: Baka-yaro! Well, I guess you don't even know what THAT means, f'g retard! I'm really concerned about your sick influence on those nice Japanese folks around you. I'm sure they consider you far,far more normal and decent than you really are. You're a complete disgrace to the humanity. I would kill myself, if I were you, you damn maniac!
Where'd you learn that word, in a comic book? Even that may be beyond your reading level. Listen, pal...you throw around the words "sicko" and "maniac" because I stated, strongly, my opinion about a friggin' rock singer. Now, anyone with a shred of common sense reading YOUR comments would realize right away who the sick fuck is here...you need to up the dosage on your meds, sparky, 'cause you've just about blown a gasket here "defending" Steve "The Ultimate Hack" Perry. Pathetic.
zoznack: Yeah, keep babbling to yourself, sick f*ck! Now you've got all these witnesses for your bloody mental illnesses. What are you gonna do? Swim over to Okinawa to build a music union with some friggin' losers like you? Oh, I forgot. You can't even swim in the clean water because you've been submerged in the BONG water! Hey you goddamn psycho, you're goin' nowhere with your sorry effort to persuade us of your normality no matter how hard you keep barking. BOW WOW WOW, idiot!!!
jumpy: Don't look now, but I'm sure our dear zoznack thinks AP is helluva singer, who's MUCH better than SP. We all should buy him a ticket for a concert, so he could join those AP-maniacs and share the bong water together.
qc: That was a real classic from that butthead, zozonack. It shows just how low he really is when it comes to his musical taste. This moron is so wacky that he can actually make me laugh, too. lol!!!
Listen to the raving idiot, nealkrazykang! Man, talk about calling the kettle black. Hey, moron...wipe the foam off the side of your mouth. Did you take your meds, jack off boy?
I have lots of friends--u certainly aren't 1 of them!!! Myabe u need to look in the mirror.. we all get old&gray.. its how we treat ppl that matter in the end..u fall short either way..get a life! I certainly have better things to do than stay on this endless road of potholes with you... move on..this is a ELP video..not some forum for you to trash a music legend and some fans with ridiculous comments. move on & move out if u think this is your job in life its time to clock out - & go home!!!
actually your mannerisms and words come out the other end--
Are you still having mental spasms from your bad habit of approaching ppl and introducing yourself by sniffing their crotches? why don't you get a music theory book and sit on it for awhile. Perhaps you can learn something via the process of osmosis--shit for brains!!!!
zozoSNACK: We shall see how long you'll take this punishment for your f'g disease. I can see you're hanging by your knuckles in an Okinawan cliff. Hey f*cker! You must be that f*g moron who raped that little local girl in the 70's. How did you f'g get away with it? I'm sure you've done it with some other innocent ones, too. Your days are numbered, you goddamn pedophile! I'm really f'g sorry for your parents, too. I'm sure they had somewhat higher hopes for you than what you've turned out to be.
DId you see the post by zoznack and the loud noise ?? yeah well thta was his blow up doll-bursting!!--no wonder that loser is still here trolling looking for an argument... I'm done with this. I refuse to take part in blogging an argument on this great song by ELP, especially when you can't have an educated debate with a halfbrain like 'zoz' - who insists blogs in the mentality that his favorite show is still "Beavis and Butthead"
jumpy: I thought that was zoznack passing some f'g gas! lol! You know, this cowardly idiot is too chicken to be invited to our living rooms, because he's. well, a yellow chicken. He's just barking garbage because he thinks it's gonna get to us. Did it get to ya? NOT to me! He's a mad dog, and a mad dog is a mad dog wherever it hangs out.
And the story never ends it goes on and on and on and on and on and on.... Damn, that's a Journey song isn't it? Seems like it's zoznack's theme song.
jimdandygo: That comment of yours is a real masterpiece! Obviously, the level of intelligence prevailing in this page is a little too high for a retard, such as zoznack, could catch up with.
jimdandygo: Your post is not only amusing, its a breath of fresh air......especially after what Zoznack is putting across. This post and the other of yours with the comment of the story going on and on and on. This is one of the funniest things I have read in quite awhile. Thanks for making my morning, you are a crackup.... You need to join us on our JOURNEY!!!!
They just don't make 'em like this anymore. Awesome song.

Re-listening to more of Greg Lake's solo stuff, I'm struck by how he could have been a really successful solo performer - the looks of David Cassidy and the songwriting ability of Joni. Quite amazing. I wonder what X-factor would have made of him (joke).

I'm really starting to wonder how many of these 160 or so comments have anything to do with ELP. Let's put this thing to sleep people and let people come in here to enjoy ELP and not BS about Journey with or without Perry. Not the place, neither is it the time...
jimdandygo 3 years ago 2
I think it all started when there were people discussing good classic rock...Journey came up...and the big ball of negative energy - also known as zoznack - just started egging Journey fans on...in a bad way.
charmingasalways 3 years ago
I'm sure no-one here wanted the comments to end up like this. ELP made some of the best classic rock. This song is one of the great ones that they have done. Nealkang sent me this video, and it rules...

zoznack:
Again I ask you...why are you speaking of Steve Perry on a site that is not even his. PLEASE refrain from wadling your way over to his sites, b/c you will not be welcomed. If you wish to enjoy the "new" replacement, then fine...do so! Just DO NOT make any degrading remarks about the man that made JRNY a household name. They were spiraling in a downward path to nothingess when HH realized they needed something..and SP had more than just a little something to add! He made them famous!
perryzgal 3 years ago 3
I didn't bring up Steve Perry. The Kang the Retard did. I don't GO to Journey/Steve Perry sites...why would I-I think he sucks. But I DO like ELP...I told Kang that Perry sucks, IMO, and he went postal like the 7-year old that he is. Journey might be famous, but "household name"? C'mon, be realistic. The Stones, Beatles, Hendrix...THOSE are HH names. Not your beloved Journey.

zocorhead...if someday a bright light shines and you see it, look for Journey circa 1980, Steve Perry was THE frontman for Journey and there is no replacement. People was sound like him, but replacement lead singers will come and go. And there will never be another Steve Perry.
charmingasalways 3 years ago
Yeah, I know all this. Doesn't change my opinion that Perry sucked. He had the formula down for SELLING records-I'm not arguing that. And THANK GOD there will never be another Steve Perry...sadly, though, there ARE other sucky singers.
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack:
You claim that I can't be objective simply b/c I have chose tne name perryzgal and have been known as such for as long as I can remember. Are you really that stupid? Does my screen name refelct a singer I LOVE...of course you moron. Does that mean that I can't be objective? No! The simple fact is this. Every replacement singer that JRNY has hired has SUCKED IMO. I have not liked a single one. AP is a whining, screaming, english challenged wanna-be. He sucks. Point made!
perryzgal 3 years ago
Well, no, you cannot be objective on the issue. I'm not familiar with Journey's replacement singers. Thank God they basically disappeared from the radio (and everywhere else) once Perry left.
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack:
Actually I believe based on your own comment hat yo have not heard the other "replacement" makes you the one that cannotbe objective. Simply b/c I use the name perryzgal does not in any way, shape or form make me unable to be objective about who is a better singer! It is hands down...Steve Perry! He is the reason this band made it to the level of fame that they reached. If you deny this, then you have a problem. Even Neal knows it...he's just too stupid to make any good decisions!
perryzgal 3 years ago 2
perryzgal: I totally agree with what you said. Some great points...You know, I think this zoznack lowlife has more than a mere problem. He's a real headcase, who must be sitting in a Japanese jail cell after committing some filthy crime. nealkang 3 years ago
Wow!! Never seen you so mad !! Give him hell!! why is he bashing our Steve on here??
squyres 3 years ago 3
Cause the creep's an asshole!
Dixie1947 3 years ago
No, I never heard the "replacement". Why would I. Why would I care? Journey, like most bland stadium rock outfits, was shoved down the throats of the public when they were at the height of their popularity. Once Perry left and album sales declined, no one ever heard them again.
I NEVER denied that Perry was the catalyst behind Journey's fame. But again, album sales and musical QUALITY are not one and the same.
Neal is too stupid to live.
zoznack 3 years ago
Nobody heard of Journey before Perry. I'm the worlds biggest Schon fan. Loved the original line up. Thought you did too. He did great work w/Journey, not to mention Hagar/Bad English/Hardline. He's too stupid to live? Back up and review you previous comments fuck head and get your story straight...
jimdandygo 3 years ago 2
Not to me though.
zoznack 3 years ago
Damn, I feel so humbled now. Oh, guess not, it was heartburn. FYI, I have never been and never will be a bandwagon jumper. I like who I like for my own reasons, not because they're POPULAR. Why don't you go listen to Frampton Comes Alive. I'm sure you have it. I'll go listen to pretentious 2112.
jimdandygo 3 years ago
You should feel humbled. Why would I listen to such DRIVEL as Frampton Comes Alive? Talk about stadium rock excesses! I used to like Rush-the 1970's version. They were pretentious, but not overwhelmingly so. By 1980 or so, they really became full of themselves. I think Geddy Lee used to speak with a faux British accent...he dropped it somewhere along the way, though.
zoznack 3 years ago
I've yet to buy anything after A Farewell to Kings, the boys went way south. Wait, I bought Chronicles, I stand corrected. Never had Frampton Comes Alive although I had a Humble Pie album or two. And a rarely feel humbled, I do know my shit.
jimdandygo 3 years ago
You know your shit? Says YOU! However, your latest comments at least paint you as a bit more objective and well-rounded than the typical Steve Perry fanboy, e.g. the rest of this crew. We rock fans can be a persnickiny lot.
zoznack 3 years ago
Never claimed to be a Perry fan boy. Claimed to be Journey fan. Granted, while I preferred Look into the Future and Next, Infinity was great and some other stuff I liked also. As with all bands there were things I didn't like. And, once again, what the hell's wrong with stadium rock. Best shows I've ever seen were in stadiums. Never saw Journey in a stadium though, just small Bay Area venues.
jimdandygo 3 years ago
I use the term "stadium rock" as a generic term for the typically bland and "popular" bands that dotted the 70's and early 80's music landscape. The term is not really litteral for playing in stadiums. A few such "Stadium Rock" bands were the Eagles, Journey, REO, Rush, Aerosmith, etc. The type of band that may have had a handful of good tunes, but by and large, once their fan base got huge, they turned to shit.

And, don't generalize with "stadium" rock. I saw Rush, Sabbath (twice), Pink Floyd among others in stadiums in the 70s. Do they fit your shitty little label???
jimdandygo 3 years ago 2
Sabbath (only WITH Ozzie) does not fit my shitty little label. Pink Floyd (only WITH Syd Barrett-and anything on "Meddle") doesn't either. Rush...hmmm...yeah, they're pretty damn pretentious and insufferable-but those guys could play. They should have quit 25 years ago, though. All rock bands, if they hang around for long enough and go through enough personnel changes, become self-parodying...which is why "Spinal Tap" was such a hillarious flick. So, get over yourself.

zoznack - dude, seriously...Journey took a nose dive as soon as Steve Perry went. He was the reason that there were so many people coming to see him. Women especially. He was something to look at. zoznack: You really are alone in your opinions here. How you can knock the voice of Steve Perry and then also knock Boston, Foreigner, REO and others. Are you still hurting from some really bad times that happened back in the late 70's & 80's. You must be because you have to be associating these things with this music because this music including this video here & especially Perry is some of the best music ever done---Oh & BTW Steve Perry's idol was Sam Cooke, yea both names-same sentence!
qcluvthehair 3 years ago 2
What's wrong with being alone in my opinions. Among people who KNOW music I'm sure I'd have a lot of company, but here? Yes, you're right. That 70's FM shit sucked. I didn't mind it as a HIGH SCHOOLER, but my musical tastes matured along with everything else. Perry "some of the best music ever done"? You don't get out much, do you?
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack: Nothing wrong with having opinions, but when those opinions insult others its just rude. haha, I do get out and I have a wide range of musical likes & dislikes. Steve Perry is right at the very top of my likes. His music is deep, emotionally moving and just downright beautiful. My guess is you have never listened to his music, I mean really listened to it. My musical tastes have also matured very much over the years and Steve's music still fits perfectly. I also still like ELP.
qcluvthehair 3 years ago 2
Gee, that must be it...I've never plummed the depths of Steve Perry's incredibly deep music. Thanks for taking the time to figure out what my problem is. And all this time I thought Perry was simply lame and testicularly-challened.
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack: Wow what did Perry ever do to you to make you such an angry person? Your turning this ELP video into a Perry site with your comments and that isnt even right. You know Perry built the legacy that Journey still holds onto today and did this without your support then so yea, why change now. You sound like the critics did back in the days, only difference they actually came to realize the voice he had and admitted as such. His voice is highly regarded whether you agree with me or not.
qcluvthehair 3 years ago 3
Didn't do anything to me, other than give the world his whining, warbling voice. Hey, I liked a lot of the bands that were popular at the time that Journey was popular. Unfortunately, the radio overplayed Journey , hence ruining my listening experience. I didn't turn this ELP video into a Perry site. NealKrazyKang did. I merely voiced an opinion that "his man" was lame and he went postal. Rather than ignoring his girlish whinning, I decided to bite back.
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack: So why is it that you ridicule Steve Perry for radio overplay.

That voice.Swoon!

astroman30 3 years ago
What a wonderful soulful vocal work by Greg Lake! It's absolutely mesmerizing...This and his vocal performance in "Epitaph" with King Crimson are among my very favorite vocals of all time. To me, Greg Lake is a lower and more subdued version of Steve Perry, who happens to be my main man.
nealkang 3 years ago
I agree with your comments re. Lake except for the last one. You can't even compare his voice to that eunuch, Steve Perry. It's class and style vs. complete crap.
zoznack 3 years ago
That "completely crappy eunuch" is considered to be one of the best, if not THE best, male rock vocalists of all time. And that's not just my opinion. Ask any reputable vocal analyst about how accomplished Perry is as a vocalist. His ability to sing in such high notes is NOT because of his hormonal malfunction. It's a product of his early training through the soul and r&b vocal techniques pioneered by the likes of Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. I suggest you study some history before you comment.
nealkang 3 years ago
I don't need to "study history"-my ears help me out here. Perry was the WEAK link of Journey, a group with some incredible musicians. Perry probably provided the commericial appeal that put Journey on the road to multi-platimum sales, but as a music fan and musician, he was the reason that that band was a total turn-off. And his songwriting, of course. Please, don't even mention his name again in the same sentence as Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. You've got to be joking!
zoznack 3 years ago
Well, you're the one who's joking. Your view is exactly the opposite to that of majority of Journey fans today. Obviously, you have an antisocial tendency to go against the mainstream and the popular tastes, and it is to the extremes. Hey! We're not dealing with some fine art here. The value of the rock/pop music lies in the entertainment value which pleases the public. Therefore, the music that's enjoyed by many can't be said to be "inferior" to what's not, just because it's enjoyed by more.
nealkang 3 years ago
I being a big pre-Perry Journey fan kind of cringed with the direction the band headed with him. When Infinity came out I thought it was a great album but I also sensed the band was going in another direction, and they did. Perry gave Journey more commercial success which I was against but that wasn't how I made a living. Ended up he was an aquired taste for me and I accepted him as a part of the band. Not 'the' part or the weak part but an important part. Don't think he was holding a gun either
jimdandygo 3 years ago
Of course no one held a gun to other bandmembers' head. But Journey was like Foreigner, REO, Boston, Kansas and any other late-70's white bread commercial stadium rockers. The music's not exactly timeless and other than the Journey freaks who write passionately in defense of their boys (e.g. Nealkang), no one listens to this shit anymore. Some of the music that Rolie, Shon and Dunbar made BEFORE joining Journey is timeless, and for good reason.
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack: Listen, butthead!

Got it now?
zoznack 3 years ago
zoznack:No, hardly. You live in a cave or somethin' Yeah, that's what I thought!
nealkang 3 years ago
Who cares what you think? But you obviously care a lot what I think. Sweet dreams, moron.
zoznack 3 years ago
zozonack: Hey sicko! It's YOUR type of sickos that wreak havoc on this otherwise livable world!
nealkang 3 years ago
zoznack: There's only one friggin' Japanese phrase you need to learn: Baka-yaro! Well, I guess you don't even know what THAT means, f'g retard! I'm really concerned about your sick influence on those nice Japanese folks around you. I'm sure they consider you far,far more normal and decent than you really are. You're a complete disgrace to the humanity. I would kill myself, if I were you, you damn maniac!
nealkang 3 years ago

Hey I see No NADS is still here.... LOL...
I think zoznack tried to go "trippin" on smoking tofu...no wonder he is such a whiner!!!! hey maybe he was the runner up in the AP contest....
jumpygirl3 3 years ago
jumpy: Don't look now, but I'm sure our dear zoznack thinks AP is helluva singer, who's MUCH better than SP. We all should buy him a ticket for a concert, so he could join those AP-maniacs and share the bong water together.

Hey neal: did you have to pick yourself up off the floor after the Toni Tenille comment? That comment had me rollin the rest of the day. LMAO

qc: That was a real classic from that butthead, zozonack.

I certainly have better things to do than stay on this endless road of potholes with you... move on..this is a ELP video..not some forum for you to trash a music legend and some fans with ridiculous comments. move on & move out if u think this is your job in life its time to clock out - & go home!!!

no nads
actually your mannerisms and words come out the other end--
Are you still having mental spasms from your bad habit of approaching ppl and introducing yourself by sniffing their crotches? why don't you get a music theory book and sit on it for awhile. Perhaps you can learn something via the process of osmosis--shit for brains!!!!
jumpygirl3 3 years ago
You seem overly obsessed by crotches. Perry's, mine? Who's next? There's a name for people like you (a few, actually). But you know that.

zozoSNACK: We shall see how long you'll take this punishment for your f'g disease. I'm sure they had somewhat higher hopes for you than what you've turned out to be.

hey Nealkang
DId you see the post by zoznack and the loud noise ?? yeah well thta was his blow up doll-bursting!!--no wonder that loser is still here trolling looking for an argument... I'm done with this. I refuse to take part in blogging an argument on this great song by ELP, especially when you can't have an educated debate with a halfbrain like 'zoz' - who insists blogs in the mentality that his favorite show is still "Beavis and Butthead"
later...cya on the Perry/jrny pages...

jumpy: I thought that was zoznack passing some f'g gas!

Seems like it's zoznack's theme song.
jimdandygo 3 years ago 4
lol...I think it is his theme song, it just never ends.
Kerjo123 3 years ago
I guess I should of said: "Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, I'm so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside"...
jimdandygo 3 years ago
jimdandygo: That comment of yours is a real masterpiece! Obviously, the level of intelligence prevailing in this page is a little too high for a retard, such as zoznack, could catch up with.
nealkang 3 years ago
jimdandygo: Your post is not only amusing, its a breath of fresh air......especially after what Zoznack is putting across. This post and the other of yours with the comment of the story going on and on and on. This is one of the funniest things I have read in quite awhile. Thanks for making my morning, you are a crackup.... You need to join us on our JOURNEY!!!!
