@BrainTetsujin17 I admit that generally the japanese or really asians in general have an easier time pulling off certain characters, like Kyouya Hibari from Katekyo Hitman reborn who in my opinion must be cosplayed by an asian as he is distinctly japanese. On the other hand there are characters like Naruto and Allen Walker(dgrayman) who could be pulled off by both easily.

generally anime characters are based on japanese. sailor mercury including her personality was based on a japanese actress named sakai noriko for example. but anime creators introduce fashions into anime. lots of characters in the 1980s science fiction anime were basd on caucasian because of hollywood movies. the protagonist of space adventure cobra was based on a french actor named jean paul belmondo for example.

I got a really good laugh out of this vid! Lol, I tried to group cosplay with my friend once, and we didn't even go to a con! It kind of failed, because we didn't have any money to buy cosplays, and neither of us could sew, so we ended up going as Len and Rin Kagamine from Shuujin/Kami Hikouki songs...I was Len, and I believe some of the people in the thing I went to after were: "You were supposed be a boy?" XD I'm Asian, and I still look awful! XD

@Danny6x not all of the good cosplayers are PROFESSIONAL japanese models.some are or better yet,MOST, are just average japanese people who take months or even YEARs to perfect a costume and get it right. There are a few good american cosplayers who take the time to do it right but there are a lot more who just throw ish together and call it a day.I do think there is hope for america though...but for now cosplay in america is just like halloween just with anime.
A lot of the Japanese cosplay is photoshopped and remember the fact that you can buy all these really cool cosplay cloths in Japan and none in UK or USA so is all homemade. Besides it's all for fun anyway :D

I think it's stupid to BUY cosplays. I think that the whole point in it is that you make it yourself. Of course there are some parts in cosplay sets you can't make yourself, but as much handwork as possible. I think it's stupid to BUY cosplays. I think that the whole point in it is that you make it yourself. Of course there are some parts in cosplay sets you can't make yourself, but as much handwork as possible. I think it's more fun to the watcher and cosplayer when you can think that "this is something I have achieved." It's stupid when people go around in suits that you can see easily been brought.

I'm sorry but ANYONE can cosplay well. Even the Japanese have bad cosplays. Skin tone has nothing to do with it. In my opinion what matters most is the quality of the work,how much time and love someone has put into something. Videos like this are just fuel for those dumb ass kids out there who don't seem to understand the point of cosplay.

I think you also have to take into consideration(?) that in Japan Anime and Cosplay have been a huge bost for their economy and even though a lot of Americans participate in America there are not a lot of places where you can buy the right materials.

not to mention most of these animes and games originated in japan, and from what i seen of the asian people they go all out over stuff like this so they probably have tons of specialty shops who handle costumes are pieces to complete a awesome looking cosplay costume. not to mention some of those japanesse cosplay pics were horrible if you ask me.

most cosplay pictures that aren't taken at a con are most likely photoshopped, so even the cosplay pictures we think look good, could actually look bad in reality.

I'm Japanese and American, and this is just a plain fail. There are bad Asian cosplayers, too. Have you seen some of the men in Akihabara? There are a handful of Asians with bad cosplay as well as Americans. But it's just not fair to compare the bad American ones to the profesional Asian ones. How about comparing the amazing western ones to the crappy Asian ones? You'd be pretty upset to, right?

Like I said, it depends on who's doing it.Some take it more seriously than other.There are tons of Asians that cosplay that don't look that great because the clothes they're wearing aren't accurate to the "Cartoon" character they are portraying.
