great lifting. Looks like you leaned to far forward on the squat and knees started comeing together. Awsome numbers. you had at least 600 deadlift at this meet left in you.
That was awesome mate, so if i get this right, you're weighing around 90 Kg's, I'm sorry I'm just trying to convert that weight into Kilograms as i am not used to pounds.. but anyways, that was an awesome effort mate
Its the Apa, my training partner picked the organization. What one do you do and whens the next one for you? The weigh in is the night before and I believe you can weigh the day of the meet. Im looking forward to it, I had a mini meet at the gym a few weeks ago totaled 1365, SQ 475, BP 335, and 535 DL. Would be happy if I actually hit them in the meet. Thanks bro
I'm sticking with the USAPL from now on. They run what is generally considered the "gold standards" of powerlifting meets, and their raw division is growing rapidly. It's 2 hour weigh-ins, all squats are walked out and the judging is usually very strict and consistent, which can't always be said for multi-ply federations.
I'll probably be doing one in early Dec, but I'm retesting maxes in 3 weeks.
Excellent numbers, best of luck in getting them at the meet. That's often the tough part. :-)
Nice lifts bro, I have my first meet this Sat. Gunna miss my 198 weight class tho, Started cutting too late. Norm compete at 180lbs in Bodybuilding, so thought I could drop from 215 for 198 in two weeks. Btw that was a great DL and I was feeling the song also.
Haha, it's remix of "Black Betty"...and I like it. :-)
Thank you and no offense taken. Powerlifters are generally stronger than they look. Last year, I was 20lbs heavier and my arms were an inch bigger, but I was weaker than I am now.
In bodybuilding, you want to look like you can lift big weight, and in powerlifting you actually want to be able to do it.
Congrats on breaking the deadlift record. That's badass.
After doing my first PL meet, last Saturday in West Hempstead, I didn't have a whole lot of strength/energy left for the deadlift after squat and bench press. Is that normal? I started doing the Sheiko routine for the first time, yesterday, (#29, and then #37 after 29), so hopefully that should improve my work capacity for PL meets.
Thanks, man. I hope to go back the same time next year and put it up over 600.
I saw the video, definitely not a bad showing for your first meet. People always lift less than they're capable of the first time around. I've only done 2 full meets, but haven't had issues with energy come time for the deadlift. Even in my first full meet which was 12 hours I seemed to be fine. I think that this was probably due to a few things.
I made sure to stay well hydrated and well fed throughout the day. I only took in caffeine and ammonia when needed and only hyped myself up before the lifts, making sure to relax during the downtime.
That being said, Sheiko should definitely help. Prepare to be sore during 29, I just started again Monday and walking has been painful. I would try 29, 37, and then 32 as the latter is a true peaking cycle. I don't test until the last Skills Evaluation and it's worked really well for me.
Yes, there is a skills evaluation day in 32 because it's a peaking cycle. I would do that or the 5 week rated lifter cycle following 29 and 37 in order to reap the full benefits.
I would "practice like you play" as long as you've based the cycles off of a paused max. We all have different sticking points when we do touch and go versus paused, so it makes sense to train the bench like we'll be using it in competition.
Thank you. I've given sumo a try, although not too seriously. My legs are pretty weak and I've always felt that sumo would put too much emphasis on them, taking away from my strong points.
Gooder McG. My 2nd favorite 90kg lifter after myself), I think we've established that my advice is better...no way that 600 is more then 6 months away.
Thanks, man. I had a pretty good idea that the 375 was only that tough because I dropped it too low and leaned too far forward. I did my best to squat a little more shallow and stay more upright on the next one, and luckily it panned out!
Nice job man I am working on cutting down from the 220 to 198 class so hopefully we will meet head to head one day. hella good form on deads bro!!!! and way to go on the squats!!!! I am working on getting back in shape again for training!!! I have a meet in july and I am gonna break 1200 raw hopefully in the 198 class... hopefully!!! my bench is for shit right now!!!
Good luck dropping weight and also on getting the 1200 total. Just remember that your bodyweight might have to level out first before the strength gains really start coming again.
sweet!

I can squat 400, and I only weigh 153 lbs.
I never thought I'd be able to, but if you stick to a solid work out, your body can do amazing things.

I'm sure you'll have a great time and I look forward to seeing the vid!

Holy crap that music is annoying.
Great work though. I am surprised that you can lift that much weight but you aren't that big.
I thought anyone who could hoist that much weight should have some big thighs and arms. No offense intended.

Yeah, I did Week 1, Day 1 of Sheiko 29, yesterday, and my pecs/quads have some soreness.
Where exactly are these "Skills Evaluation" days? I don't see any in 29 or 37. Is that in 32?
Also, should I pause every rep of the bench press sets or do touch-and-go? It looks like you're pausing all of your BP reps in your Sheiko videos.
maxbm 3 years ago

:-) You just may be right on the 600. If I run 2, 12 week cycles and have the similar results, then I think that this could possibly be a reality.
And then I'll have a pull close to my favorite 90kger, but unfortunately, he'll probably be pulling much more than that by then. :-D
