@karloomick Voted 07-08 Stallion of the Year & held 08 NZ Yearling Sales Record. Sire of an unprecedented 3 $200,000+ yearlings, 10 $100,000+ yearlings & 20 $50,000+ yearlings in 08. Sire of 2yo & 4yo of the Year, Gotta Go Cullen, $1m in earnings. Sire of NZ Horse of the Year, Mainland Banner, the first 4yo mare to win the prestigious NZ Cup. First stallion in ANZ with single-season progeny earnings greater > $6 million, & 1st stallion in NZ with single-season progeny earnings greater than $3m.
@karloomick The best mare I've ever seen was Blossom Lady. She was competing against a super crop of grand circuit horses - WB Grant, Jack Morris, Christ Vance, Master Musician, Golden Reign, Franco Ice, Chokin. TL was great of course but didn't have that quality of opposition. The mare with the most talent that I've ever seen was Norm's Daughter. She was a freak... had it not been for injury & a less than tractable temperament would have won a stack more grand circuit races. Super tough.
@karloomick In terms of high speed there's nothing I've seen that could have matched Chandon. Maybe with the exception of Rowleyalla. Especially at 3yo he was out of this world. Of course Westburn Grant was the full package. I remember him coming to Perth as a 4yo & making a mockery of a 9yo Village Kid. I'm not sure if he's the best of seen but I've not seen 1 better. Especially considering the injury he had at 5yo in WA. He is by far the best story in pacing. His win in the 92 WA Cup was epic.
@karloomick I don't agree. Had he not been entire he would have raced on. Probably not to the extent Karloo Mick did but we certainly didn;t see the best of him. We had the same issue with Chandon when he was a young horse. He could run 27 flat consecutive quarters at 2 and was just too fast for his own good. In terms of natural ability I've not seen anything his equal. A dud at stud? Surely you're being sarcastic?
Wowee, I remember staying up just to watch this one, outstanding horse. CC had it all, strength, brilliance, a showy gait, and great looks! I always thought it was a shame that he and Courage Under Fire were never "on" at the same time, would've been a sight!
Love your work. You don't have a digitalized copy of Our Maestro's win in the Sydney interdominion in 1988 do you? My late father owned the horse that ran second.
good video. I was actually the person who digitalised all these Miracle Mile videos for the Harold Park website in 2003., which is obviously where this one came from. Great race.
our sir vancelot wat a run 4 a horse suited to longer distances. 3 wide runnin 28 quarters on a half mile track. take nothin away from the winner he was a champion.
