Judging by the new images they've used the Jones version of Daffy who, unlike what most people say, is relatable, lovable & a great character actor. still think he's a loser ? I disagree, Chuck made him a struggler. A loser is someone who gives up after facing a certain situation, Daffy sure as heck does not give up! You can throw anything at him, the little black duck will always TRY because he wants to come on top !
Go watch Daffy Dilly & you'll see what I mean by unrelenting !
Very impressive design, direction, camera angles, but what the hell is that weird sheen they gave his body?! I know they feel obligated to texture him up, give him CGI feathers, but it just feels *wrong,* a poor creative choice. By comparison, the texturing they gave Wile E & the Road Runner in their recent theatrical shorts worked nicely. And does anyone know where the soundtrack for this came from? My guess is it's from an old LP of songs performed' by Mel Blanc as the Looney Tunes characters.
@JoeStrikesAgain The sheen is a little odd but I think it still at least gives him a rather cool look, so I can't complain. At least his overall look is the Daffy we know and love. And as for the original song, I don't know much. Only that it was released in 1950. "I Tawt I Taw A Putty Tat" was released then, I think. But upon doing a little searching, I did find that it was also included on a CD released in 2000, with other songs from different media. (Monty Python & Weird Al, to name a few).
@Utubeblows Actually no, as much as I know, this has been done using the traditional CG method, no rotoscoping, no hand drawn animation. Amazing, huh? :)
One honest question: Point any Jones cartoon where Daffy is really jealous of Bugs ? People, That was the later Freleng version. Jones can get both sides of the Duck, don't believe me? Watch You never Duckier & Daffy dilly , where he's both articulate , greedy & nutty . In the hunt trilogy , he did it out of sthelf presthervationm-nm so he doesn't get shot , not because he hated the rabbit. & I am impatiently waiting for this clip to come out in HD, it's great fun to watch & to sing along !
@OktaSnkJB I just watched the Behind the Scenes clip again... they managed to have Mel Blanc AND Billy West in the same video!! Oh, that's clever! And awesome!
If they can do the Looney Tunes characters in 3D so beautifully, why can't they do the same with Hanna-Barbera characters like Scooby and Yogi? I mean I bet they'd look GREAT in that same 3D technique!
@rcsmooth9 That's true, but I meant making the characters in 3D, but keeping them in the same style and not all real life like, like Daffy. He's a 3D character, but he still retains his good cartoony style from the hand drawn cartoons.
I don't want to say this but since this animation is GENIUS. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
There I said it. Cause the animation reminds me of what would happen if you Got Eric Goldberg to work with Warner Bros again. The Animation is spot on with classic Looney Tunes, Billy West is once again Elmer Fudd :D Daffy is back to his old self (along with his annoyed self from the Chuck Jones cartoons when he shows the "rabbit") and the animation does better than The Smurfs/Yogi Bear movies combined!
I've always been one to extoll the virtues of traditional hand drawn animation and the negative effect CG has had on the medium of cartoons, but this clip has me rethinking things a bit.
Any cartoon production, 2D or 3D, is going to go through a character design phase. With the new CG Looney Tunes shorts you could argue that the characters have all ready been designed, as well as the animation style, so one could say that they're saving money by rehashing all ready beloved characters compared to taking the risk of starting from scratch.
Not that I'm saying that's okay. I just wouldn't say that one form of animation is quicker or easier than the other.
THIS is the Daffy I want to see more often. Crazy and clever -- the ORIGINAL Bugs Bunny. And man, such beautiful animation...this video truly made me proud.
@ DavMawey I know but it just would take a lot less work overall don't get me rough here this is amazing, but a great 2D animation team could whip this up in half the time therefore meaning less money spent. With the constant changes to the models and all the textures and shadings it must have takin' them a really long time but like I said this still looks really good and the way it all flows together looks fantastic. I'm just saying it would be cheaper.
Woww... best 3D animation I've ever seen. I'm not a fan of 3D but if anyone could pull off such great 3D animation it's Warner Bros. I hope we see more like this in the future :)
I have GOT to see this, but I doubt I'll be able to sit through Journey 2. Hopefully somebody will upload it on YouTube!

Therefore, this cannot be Daffy Duck.

OVERRULED. This is the Daffy that the world has been waiting several decades to see again, so they have very good reason to applaud.
