  • think i might sound rather ignorant here but how during a panic attack do you greet it as a friend? is there some sort of technique?

  • This is true for every emotion we call "negative". Make friends with whatever is there, at the end, is energy going the wrong direction. When we become friends of our strongest negative emotions, we can use this energy for awarenes instead of becoming desperate trying to get the emotion out of our system.

  • feel like theres an earthquake but theres not. ahhhh

  • nice.

  • if a Buddhist master is suffering from this, wtf am i suppose 2 do????

  • @nikosntina Oh, he wasn't suffering with it. He was living with it. He chose not to see it in a way that let it control him, that's why it went away. You can see past it too :D

  • @DirtyCommunist thank you. :)

  • Yea this method really works, I came across it myself by accident and it's how I ended my panic attacks. In a way it seems almost inevitable, they stopped me from being able to sleep at all. I was so exhausted the only option left was to accept how I was feeling. Just to observe. I didn't have enough energy left to do anything else!

  • If I understood him right, was he saying about making panic your friend, that when you look at it and accept what you are feeling, don't judge it as being good or bad, just basically look it square in the face and allow those feelings to flow, you get into the place where you suddenly are separate from the panic - you are the observer - then you realize that you and panic are not one, panic is something that happens and you are the one observing it happening. I think it is that separation!

  • Rinpoche thank you for sharing. True compassion and wisdom. At a 12 day Buddhist meditation retreat 20 years ago I faced my panic attacks too. Rode the panic attack until it was exhausted. After retreat I no longer suffered from panic attacks or night terrors, which plagued me for 30 years. I was 34 at the time.

  • I wish the Dalai Lama would speak in the same way he does because I would learn from his wisdom so much easier

  • Since I was 17, I've lived in fear of panic. I've been on and off of medication, I've lived my life afraid of this thing that follows me and humiliates and debilitates me. This is the first time anyone has ever helped me to overcome it.

  • @SapphireJesse08 would you believe how much i am a victum to the failures of humiliation i have a song for you . embarisment youtube it artists are slug and sage francis and eyedea

  • also he's like an enlightened version of Masuka from Dexter. lol

  • he's doing stand up buddhism

  • This is incredible few know that I have studied the ways of the Buddah for many decacdes and have longed to spend my life in devotion. In a monestary or oshram. This talk on anxiety has been enlightening above measure I am so glad that I was directed to this talk, it touches home and is wonderful

  • I have read one of his books. Awesome.

  • I needed shoes today and I walked to the mall and as I neared the mall a guy I knew from when I was homeless had a nice pair for me right there and then. Coincidental? Now, such great advice for someone meditating who has panic attacks like me. Things are just coming to me today. Or I'm coming to them.

  • This video and the second video of Rinpoche talking about the issue of panic attacks REALLY helped me! Thank you!

  • namaste. >< how do i become friends with panic? ;_; i've have so many breakdowns at this point my chest is hurting and i don't know what to do.I've been told sense a kid to mediate, u_u but I was lazy for it. I don't know why, but when I try to meditate now my mind will go on and on and on. Is there any other videos he may have for teaching meditation?^^ thank you for posting this!

  • @Krimson It is normal for the mind to go on and on and on. What is important is that you are committed, and after time and persistence, you will reach a stage where your mind calms down and you gain greater awareness, calm, and control. I recommend taking a vipassana course under the tradition of S.N. Goenka. The courses are free and held in various loactions worldwide - check out dhamma.org for more information

  • @Krimson why don't you buy the book?

  • i love Rinpoche's examples and how he relates his teachings to real experiences. But in this case, I wish he had explained how he actually "made friends" with Panic instead of just saying he didn't fight it.

  • @imthekingofme Might want to take a look at a book called "Things Might Go Terribly Horribly Wrong" based on Acceptance and Commitment therapy. It's quite similar and it does take time to develop.

  • what a silly teaching. And this is a meditation teacher!

  • @ruzickaw you need to listen to whole teachings. This was not a meditation technique lesson, it was only a part of the experience. If you want meditation lessons, Rinpoche has other videos here. Don't be so fast to judge. That is being a slave to your mind.

    Peace

  • He is very honest telling publicly that he suffered also under panic !

  • I love him he is so great. :)

  • i told this to i woman i knew .. to use her panik and/or anxieties and maditate with or about them, but she loved her feelings too much, so i hope she lives still with her feelings/thoughts

    i learnt something about anger

    anger as an enemy grows

the clear and pure anger vanishes in less than a second

  • this was so helpful for my start. today im deciding to try meditation for my panic attacks and after watching this i feel so much more confident about getting over them

  • @thatwonblackguy

    don't panik just attack ,-)

  • A very engaging teacher!

  • @WhiteConchFilms

    its too simple

  • thank you rinpochela

  • thats true before i heard this guy speak ... 2 years ago thats exactly how i got ridof my panick attacks i became aware of them imstead of letting them control me now i dont get them

  • The open accepting mind in meditation embraces fear and it vanishes! Fear becomes fuel for that open mind and loving attitude! And - meditation is not only sitting in lotus, so on... It is real when it is transposed in every movement, feeling and thought in our daily life! Orlin Baev, cognitive psychologist and psychotherapist, Bulgaria, Sofia.

  • money n all reality bs matters but main thing is ur mind to be calm and ease by meditation n other technqiues.

  • lol I feel so much better now. He is so funny haha.

  • After his words, my life's view changed in 2009.

  • he put up 2 fingers and said 3 years haha

  • @eggnogger5 I hope that's not the only thing you got from the video.

  • @imanselmo i hope my girl never stops giving me dome

  • Great!

  • I'm into the 4th chapter of his book 'The joy of living' and it is simply amazing! It is a must read book...an absolute gem...

  • makyoakuma - i have been overcoming anxiety attacks through his teachings. whenever i get a slight symptom of anxiety, i greet my anxiety. i say hello anxiety. or hello fear. thinking of anxiety as a friend helps it go away more quickly. it becomes shy.

  • you are so right :)

  • Thanks uploader, this guy has a very warm and friendly style.

MakyoAkuma -> My interpretation is that Panic is created for a reason, it is based on our thoughts/ worries/ emotions. It can be very useful for these to be brought to the surface (ie. in a panic attack) so you can overcome them.

Mind, I'd rather not have panic attacks as they are the most horrible experiences I've encountered in my life, but his wisdom (which I'm guessing is explained more fully in his dvd) is quite helpful.

  • Thank you very much for posting this, and thank you to Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche.

  • What is anyone else's understanding of what he means by making fear into a friend?

  • Stop panic attacks here: watch?v=Gsj4YogmBp4

  • wonderful teaching. much too short though. where can I find more of his teachings ect. Such a wonderful teacher, never once have I heard him teach or know of him!

  • @oneseeker2

    mingyur{dot}org/teachings/7points/7points_2a{dot}html

    Namaste!

  • Q pena no lo hayan traducido al castellano :((

  • I don't understand why there is so much down thumbs in buddhist comment.

Look how to work with negativity, this vid and many others are about this.

Buddhism is not about hiding reality, but about looking what it is how it is.

    Namaste digo.

  • He's really funny...I like him. :)

  • Wowl He's a great speaker. Somtimes, doesnt he and the Dalai Lama sound a little bit like Yoda?

  • Your absolutely right lmao. Listen to 0:56- it's totally Yoda:D

  • Of course, George Lukas is earlier than tibetan buddhism.

  • @SacredCowProductions Do you mean" how westerns suffer so much that needs weed to feel some reliefs?"

I saw that one. Not so funny. In fact is kind of sad and painful movie..

  • No, it's HOW WEED WON THE WEST. Check it out.

  • You are wrong. I am int that movie.

"Weed is suffering" is our new project..

    Stay tuned.

  • Beautiful message,we can CHANGE.

    Nothing is set in stone.

Blessings and love to all and may all be free from suffering.

  • this is wonderfull

  • I was stunned when I read recently in a Buddhist magazine about his experience with the panic attacks. My own naive thinking led me to believe that such a thing would be unthinkable in the Tibetan culture.

  • I had this exact thought.

  • wow thats what i was thinking all way through too..........

  • Well, actually, they are humans too.

In fact, is more about that than you may think. Search a little more deep and you may found even more amazing things.

Lots of things like that are very very far of we western think about tibet.

For example, Milarepa one of the first great buddhist teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, actually he killled part of his family. Endeed he was a very holy man.

Search more, lots of things are not what the media tells us.

    And enjoy the surprises.

  • VV Mingyur Rinpoche is one the greatest teacher of our time, we couldn't thank enough for his being here with us ... if you could not appreciate that for some poor reason, for your own good, don't make bad karma, try to listen with your heart, try to feel it. Good skill at language but with no good heart is pathetic! Love to all ... beyond language and no matter how mean you want to be ...

  • I can't wait to see him this Tuesday

  • I love this video so much.. I find it helpful and interesting, as someone who has a lot of anxiety attacks :3

  • i agree

  • its is hard because we make it hard realty is what you make of it and yes i suffer too
