Same here! The Pirate Queen was a great show and, while it wasn't as incredible as Les Miserables, it should have ran longer than it did.

I think the problems with musicals by famous composers is that people always compare it to the other shows. I believe that's why Pirate Queen didn't last - people keep saying it wasn't as good as Les Miserables. Andrew Llyod Webber can't top Phantom of the Opera, probably because everyone compares his new shows to that.

I think Pirate Queen was amazing, standing on its own.

i think the problem this year was that there were so many great actresses up for Lead, so i think they decided to only put up one of the 9 to 5 girls to represent the show.

but either way i don't think it would have effected the outcome. alice ripley gave one of the best performances i have ever seen on stage.

The problem might be that all of them were considered for the Lead category. If they separated them into different categories (despite potential category fraud), Janney probably wouldn't have been the only one with the nomination.

Ya, that's what I meant. To use an example...in The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger and Christian Bale were both leads, but the producers knew that the only way Heath could win would be if they submitted him as a Supporting Actor instead of lead. If 9 to 5 had submitted Stephanie as a Featured Actress, she would have at least been nominated, and may have even won.

But, I'm still glad for Karen Olivo, she totally earned it.

I absolutely agree! The category is Best ACTRESS in a Musical and Allison Janney is a phenomenal actress. Although SJB and Megan Hilty are brilliant as well and they all deserved the nominations, I'm glad Alice Ripley won. I think she deserved it more than all of the other nominees.
